Looking back, it’s fair to say that many of Josh’s gifts for communicating may have

“My grandfather, Frank Mills, was the first voice heard on Texas television,” Josh says. “He had also worked in radio with Ronald Reagan at WHO, and while at WBAP he interviewed JFK in Fort Worth, the day before the president was killed in Dallas.”

As he came of age, Josh made plans to follow in those illustrious footsteps himself. In fact, during college, he pursued his own Broadcast Journalism major. In addition, he worked as an Intern at Channel 5, KXAS, formerly WBAP where his grandfather helmed as an anchor.

There were other influences at work in Josh’s life, as well.

“My dad, David Mills, was not in radio or television. His chosen profession was real estate. My mom always instilled in me the importance of good credit and a tight budget,” Josh says. “My dad on the other hand was a heavy influence on my entrepreneurial spirit as well as the stability in land ownership. He enjoyed real estate. He was a land developer for many years and specialized in lakefront properties around Texas.”

Moving Forward

After Josh wrapped up his TV news internship, he continued his passion for entertainment — moving to New York City where he worked for Warner Brothers for three years — with roles creating daytime talk and reality television content.

After that, Josh returned to Texas and worked for a time with his father, learning more about real estate. It wasn’t long before he transferred out to Los Angeles with Warner Brothers.

“I was over the rain, fog, sleet, and snow of New York City,” he smiles. “When I moved to LA, I couldn’t shake the real estate bug. So, I got my license out there.”

Through time, Josh carried out dual roles.

“I did some part-time real estate while working in entertainment — doing dome freelance production work,” he recalls.

Building with His Best

At the same time, Josh started his own production company in 2008 — going all-in with creating narrative and documentary films. In 2016, Josh made the decision to move back to Texas — bringing his independent production company with him.

In 2017, Josh re-entered the world of real estate, working with his dad at Mills & Associates. It wasn’t long before he honed his real estate path further.

“I was very interested in the residential side of the business. About six months in it, my dad told me that residential real estate wasn’t his forte. He encouraged me to go out and get some training if I wanted to work with individual doors. So, I went to Keller Williams and started my own team in Arlington.”

Gaining Ground

After about a year with Keller Williams, Josh was recruited and joined the team at Epic National Realty.

“Epic National Realty is a boutique brokerage, but it’s more of a technology based firm,” Josh explains. “When I got to Epic, it was extraordinarily efficient. In turn, it allowed me to be more productive and it allowed me to grow my team in a great way.”

Today, Josh proudly leads a team of four Agents, along with a staff, including an Operations Manager, Marketing and Social Media professionals, and an internal Media Specialist.

“My team has done a good job of being a team. They lean on each other with questions to help with ideas and showings. In my role, I’m essentially the manager, but I try to instill the opportunity of having a team to lean on. We help each other achieve annual goals.”

Reliable Resource

Josh is fully immersed in supporting the success of those around him in an industry he loves.

“If you’re able to take control of the time blocks in your schedule, it gives you the freedom to run your own business,” Josh says.

“At the same time, there are a lot of rewarding experiences, including those who are buying their first homes, as well as the bittersweet side … working with empty nesters who are walking away from the home they enjoyed with their children for 25 years. I love having the ability to know the more that you put in, the more you get out of it.”

Josh has quickly established himself and his team as a resource for results, and they do it while serving all segments of the market and all price points. In 2022, Josh and his team recorded more than 100 transactions.

Wonderful Life

Away from real estate, Josh continues his passion for film. He also enjoys time at the gym, as well as being outdoors. Additionally he plays the guitar and produces a podcast each week called the Time and Money network, which focuses on the benefits of mentorship in the business world.

When it comes to giving back, Josh is very engaged. He is an officer on the Board of Directors for the Lone Star Film Society.

“The organization brings awareness to the art of motion pictures in Texas, and we also host a film camp each Summer… the Johnny Langdon Film Education Initiative. These Summer camps instruct kids on the core fundamentals of making movies. As part of that, we provide some sponsorships for some of the students.”

Josh also supports the Gospel Mission in Downtown Fort Worth, as well as the VFW.

When you talk with Josh, it’s easy to see the passion he carries for life and work … with a selfless sense of service.

“Sometimes people don’t realize the amount of work that goes into the job of being a Real Estate Agent behind the curtain. I don’t want to sell people on doing something. If people want to buy or sell, it’s up to them and I want to help them make the right decisions. My motto is; it’s never about this deal. It’s about the next one. At the end of the day, if I do a good job for you, you may refer me to someone else.”

It’s clear that Josh Mills makes a lasting, positive impact for those around him each day … finding fulfillment in his leading role.
