Forty years ago, I attended my first real estate event when my grandmother was installed as President of her REALTOR® association. My dad, her son-in-law, followed in her footsteps, becoming President of that same association ten years later. Both dedicated their careers not only to running successful real estate brokerages but to volunteering for the REALTOR® association.
When I began working for the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® ten years ago, I assumed that every REALTOR® was as connected to the association as my family had been. It didn’t take long for me to realize that wasn’t the case. Many of our members, busy with the daily grind of closing deals, feel disconnected from the association. It can often seem like
an impersonal institution, more of a governing body than a supportive partner. That’s not acceptable to me, and it’s certainly not what we strive for at MetroTex.
In the coming months, our industry will face significant challenges with new forms, policies, and heightened client expectations. At MetroTex, we want to help you navigate these hurdles and emerge stronger. You might be asking, how? It’s a long answer—longer than I have time for here. Geoffrey Lyons, a real estate agent based in the Dallas area, has a story as dynamic as the city he calls home. Born and raised in Rockwall County, Texas, Geoffrey’s roots run deep in the Lone Star State. From his early days as a left-footed soccer striker scoring the first goal in Royse City history to his distinguished military service as a paratrooper and intelligence analyst, Geoffrey’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary.
After nearly eight-and-a-half years of service in the U.S. Army, including a combat tour in Iraq, Geoffrey
transitioned to civilian life with a thirst for entrepreneurship and sales opportunities. Real estate came calling in 2018, and Geoffrey answered with the same passion and determination that defined his military career.
“Real Estate beckoned my interest in late 2018,” Geoffrey recalls. “It hit me like a steel ball in a Miley Cyrus video. Then, onto Champions School of Real Estate in Plano I went, knocked it out in early 2019, and earned my license in April (please don’t make me take the test again!).”
Before diving into real estate, Geoffrey served as the chief marketing officer for an IT firm in Rockwall, where he honed his skills in sales and customer relations. However, it was his military background that instilled in him the values of perseverance and resilience, qualities that would serve him well in his real estate career.
What is Geoffrey passionate about today in his business? “People. I wouldn’t have any of the opportunities I have today without the many people and mentors I’ve earned and gained along the way,” Geoffrey emphasizes. “Secondly, I’d say land; I’m incredibly passionate about land and all things farm and ranch (4th generation Texas), and improving myself and learning more about development to help my clientele.”
Despite facing challenges along the way, including a months-long battle with COVID-19 that nearly cost him his life, Geoffrey’s unwavering optimism and determination have propelled him forward. “Life is too short,” he declares. “I should have disappeared from this Earth long ago, yet have remained. Don’t ever give up on your dreams, don’t accept ‘No’ for an answer, and don’t ever get a salty attitude.”
As a disabled Army combat veteran and OG Texan, Geoffrey is on a mission to leave a lasting legacy in the Dallas-Fort Worth real estate market. “I will do everything in my power to become synonymous as the most popular real estate brand name in DFW,” he asserts. “One day, I will have a skyscraper built in downtown Rockwall named Lyons Tower. In Dallas real estate, there is a name that’s quickly becoming synonymous with intentionality, purposefulness, and a whole lot of heart. Meet Christen Nutter, a REALTOR® with KW Urban Dallas and a member of the Templeton Real Estate Group. But Christen’s story isn’t just about buying and selling houses—it’s about weaving together a seamless blend of relationships, advocacy, and genuine care for her clients.
Growing up in Irving, Texas, Christen attended a charter school in north Irving and loved it for its diversity. “I had friends from all sorts of backgrounds and countries,” Christen explains. “Honestly, it felt like an international school! Then, I went off to Wheaton College, my dream school, up in Chicago, where I studied spiritual formation.” Her journey into real estate began in 2018, but her path to this career was anything but conventional. “My background is actually ministry,” she explains. “I spent a number of years in youth ministry at churches in Dallas, Houston, and Baltimore.” Her passion for investing in the next generation eventually led her to teach 4th grade at West Dallas Community School—a role that brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
However, it was Christen’s transition into real estate that allowed her to tap into a diverse range of interests and talents. “Before real estate, I always felt like an oddball with a collection of random gifts and talents,” she recalls. “Real estate is so fun because I don’t have to deny a part of how I’m wired. It allows me to tap into a lot of my interests.”
But Christen’s passion for real estate goes beyond the transactional aspects of the job. For her, it’s about being an advocate for her clients and ensuring they feel supported every step of the way. “Mostly, I am passionate about advocating for my
people, especially people who feel in the dark about the process or who lead busy lives and need someone to make sure they are covered,” she says. “We all need advocates at some point in our lives, and it’s really fun being an advocate for people I care about in this niche industry.”
As Christen navigates the complexities of the real estate market, she brings a unique blend of empathy, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Whether she’s negotiating deals or providing guidance to her clients, her focus remains unwavering—ensuring her clients are in good hands. “The most rewarding
part of my business is ensuring that my clients are in good hands,” she affirms. “I am kind of a mama bear when it comes to my people, and being able to get eyes on the process and bring my expertise to the table to help them gives me a lot of peace of mind.”
Of course, like any career, real estate comes with its challenges. For Christen, one of the biggest hurdles is time management—a skill she’s constantly honing as she juggles multiple roles and responsibilities. “The best thing about a job can also be an Achilles heel because you’re always switching hats and trying to respond to the
needs of the moment,” she explains. “It takes a lot of agility and discernment to know how best to allocate your time.”
Despite the challenges she faces, Christen remains committed to her vision of success—a vision that’s deeply rooted in her faith and personal values. “Success for me has always been doing my very best with the resources I’m given and leaving
the results to God,” she reflects. “The key is in how to understand the idea of ‘doing my very best.’ Sometimes ‘best’ is just pushing the boundary of your comfort zone a centimeter day after day.”
Outside of her real estate career, Christen has found a unique outlet for her creativity and humor. A little over a year ago, she started a comedy troupe called

Sallad Comedy—a nod to the city of Dallas spelled backward. “We do improv comedy, which involves making up comical scenes on the spot out of thin air,” she says with a laugh. “We do a handful of big shows a year, and there’s something so rewarding about seeing everyone from kids to grandparents having a great time out in the audience. It’s so fun being silly with my friends while bringing laughter and joy to a city I love.”
As a single 38-year-old without a family of their own, Christen does have very supportive parents. “My dad pastors a little Bible church in Irving, less than 200 people,” she says. “He has been there for 30 years, just faithfully serving the community. He is such a steadfast presence of humility and kindness, and the greatest gift he ever gave me was making sure my sister and I never had to doubt how much he loves us. And my mom is a firecracker and the most amazing storyteller! Both my parents have such servant hearts and spend a lot of their lives trying to improve the lives of others. I am so grateful for their example!”
In a city as vibrant and diverse as Dallas, Christen Nutter stands out not only as a REALTOR® but as a champion for her clients and a model of positivity and authenticity. Growing up, Tyler Coleman moved — a lot. Although he was born in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, Tyler spent much of his childhood moving around the state of Texas, following his dad to his next high school football coaching job.
“We moved every two to three years all the way through my schooling, but my dad would never hire a moving company,” Tyler reflects. “My twin brother, my dad, and I were the movers.”
As a child and teenager, Tyler didn’t enjoy the moving process. He was faced with the stress of changing schools, making new friends, and adjusting to a new environment. On top of it all, he discovered that the moving process could be grueling. Coordination was complex, and heavy lifting was necessary.
“So, if you’d tell me at 18 I’d be working for a moving company as a career, I’d tell you you were crazy,” Tyler laughs. “It was tough. Moving is hard, but I know how to move.”
In 2013, Tyler’s aunt hired Black Tie Moving as they transitioned homes.
When the team arrived, Tyler naturally began helping them out. After all, moving was in his blood, which was evident to the Black Tie Moving team. They asked Tyler if he’d like to join the team, and it just so happened he was looking for full-time employment.
“It became a natural transition. I found I liked moving other people and helping them with that stressful situation. Even when you’re not lifting furniture and packing and unpacking, moving is tough, and I found I liked helping others through that process.”
Now the Branch Manager for the
DFW and Austin locations, Tyler has been with Black Tie Moving for a decade. He started as the low man on the totem pole and worked his way up to driver/crew lead, operations management, inside sales, and eventually branch manager. He led the Nashville office from 2017-2019, helped get the Austin branch off the ground in 2019, and moved back home to Dallas to lead the DFW office in 2022.
Tyler describes Black Tie Moving’s culture as more like a family than a corporation. His goal is to create happy employees and, thus, happy customers.
“The moving industry is well known to have temp workers and contractors. What separates us is that every person we employ is drug tested, background checked, and full-time,” Tyler explains. “The quality of service is something we pride ourselves on from training. We roll out the red carpet for all our clients… literally. We pay our guys higher wages to attract the top guys. We have a great culture.”
One shining example of the family atmosphere at Black Tie Moving is Corey Tucker, who has been with the
company for eight years. Starting as a helper, Corey quickly demonstrated his dedication and skill, moving up to crew lead and eventually into operations management. “Corey’s punctuality, high-level communication, and professional attitude have made him an invaluable asset to the team,” says Tyler. “He has one of the most important jobs within the company and excels at it in every aspect!”

life had other adventures in store. Her family moved to the East Coast when she was 12. She lived in Toronto, Canada, New Jersey, Connecticut, and just outside of Philadelphia. Her family moved to Austin, Texas, for her last two years of high school.
“Moving to Toronto and the East Coast was quite a change,” Angelia reminisces. “It was super exotic to have snowy winters, spend time in NYC, and meet people from all different parts of the world and cultures.” These experiences broadened her horizons and enriched her understanding of diverse communities, an asset that would later prove invaluable in her real estate career.
After high school, Angelia attended the University of Texas and Stephen F. Austin University, where she met her husband, Dennis. Their love story is as compelling as her professional journey. “Dennis and I dated for three years, and then he moved back to Sweden. We kept in touch, and several years later, we were reunited when my family visited Denmark for Christmas. By June of 1996, I was living in Sweden,” she shares. The couple married in a magical winter wedding at a 500-year-old castle in Sweden.
Returning to the United States in 2000, the couple settled in Palm Springs, where Angelia embarked on her real estate career. “It was scary and exciting,” she admits. “I quickly grew my business in the Palm Springs area and was blessed with wonderful clients, many of whom I am still in touch with today.” Her success in California set the stage for her eventual return to Texas, where she continued to build her reputation as a top REALTOR®.
Joining The Agency RE Dallas marked a significant milestone in Angelia’s career. “I have found my forever real estate family,” she says.
