DEAR CARDINAL ATHLETICS ALUMNI, PARENTS, AND FRIENDS,
Cardinal Athletics enjoyed a fantastic year in 2024-25!
Our football team capped off an undefeated campaign by capturing their third national title in the past five seasons with a win at the Stagg Bowl on January 5, 2025 – live for the nation to witness on ESPN. Women’s triathlon won its third consecutive team national title (their sixth overall), as Hailey Poe ’25 earned an unprecedented fourth consecutive individual national title. Women’s wrestling finished as national runners-up for the second year in a row. The men’s cross country team won an incredible 50th straight CCIW team championship – winning the conference every year since NCAA Division III was started!
Women’s wrestlers Amani Jones ’25 and Sydney Petzinger ’25 both won individual national titles on the mat, while Braden Nicholson ’24 / M ’26 won national titles in the indoor 3,000-meter run and the outdoor 10,000-meter run. Luke Lehnen ’24 won the Gagliardi Trophy as the top Division III football player for the second consecutive year, and Hailey Poe won USA Triathlon’s alldivision Alexander Award. Women’s wrestling was the top program in the Scholar All-American Team rankings, and Brad Spencer ’04 and Joe Norton ’10 / M ’13 received National Coach of the Year recognitions in football and women’s wrestling, respectively.
In the classroom and while competing, our exemplary student-athletes and coaches make Cardinal Athletics one of the best programs in the country. The Department of Athletics continues to make great progress on its goals to improve the overall health and wellbeing of our student-athletes. We are proud of our continued efforts to create a culture of community, opportunity, and belonging.
Your support for Cardinal Athletics is vital to our continued success. Whether you support the general athletics fund, a specific team, or the Women in Sports Fund, your generosity is truly appreciated.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome back more than 800 student-athletes for the 2025-26 school year and our staff is prepared to support them in their academic and athletic pursuits. You, our loyal fans and supporters, are always invited to campus to attend a competition and cheer on our Cardinals.
Thank you for your enthusiastic spirit and generosity! GO CARDS!
Sincerely,

During my first campus visit, I remember the distinct feeling that I wasn’t just another name on a roster. The coaches didn’t just talk about wins and losses; they talked about growth, community, and impact.”
KATIE MCNEELA ’14
The faculty at North Central College want to see you succeed and are willing to help in any way they can. You just have to ask. I’ve spent lots of time in office hours for my engineering and physics courses working through homework problems with my professors. Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to exceed in my academics.”

Raising the Bar
The College’s annual Day of Giving has become a critical fundraising opportunity for athletics teams and programs. Women’s soccer has taken that opportunity and supercharged it.
In 2025, the team raised over $100,000 in 24 hours with a multi-faceted campaign that engaged supporters young and old, near and far.
“We use Day of Giving to generate funds for our program, and we do that by making it about the experience for our studentathletes,” said Coach Andrew Gamarra. We
Funds are used for everything from team bonding experiences to resources that aid in student-athlete nutrition and recovery, as well as team travel to compete against top-ranked programs across the country.
Ultimately, it’s about raising the bar for the entire program.
“There have been so many prolific programs at North Central,” said Gamarra. “If you want to become one of those, you have to challenge yourself against other top programs.”
