A valuable resource for yoga teachers, classroom teachers, parents, and anyone who works with children, Creative Yoga for Children offers a structured, thematically-based yoga program designed to promote physical, emotional, and social development through movement and free exploration. Creative Yoga for Children is a collection of forty one-hour lessons that incorporate elements of yoga--poses, breath work, meditation, and mindfulness--centered around specific themes designed to challenge and inspire children in three age ranges: four to six, seven to nine, and ten to twelve. For four-to six-year olds, there are twenty hour-long classroom themes, or lessons on subjects ranging from colors and the ocean to wintertime, shapes, and numbers. Ten lessons for seven- to nine-year-olds investigate more abstract topics, such as botany, the human body, drama, and countries of the world. For ten- to twelve-year-olds there are ten lessons covering such topics as the food chain, fractions, learning how to study, dealing with stress, and caring for the environment. Activities for each lesson include setting an intention, physical warm-ups, breath work, yoga poses, arts and crafts, partner work, meditation, gratitude exercises, and music. MULTIPLE AUDIENCES: Written for parents, yoga teachers, educators, and anyone who supervises children. USER-FRIENDLY AND ACCESSIBLE: No special training is required to carry out the lessons, and essential information for executing the activities is provided, including prop lists, book lists, and music. AGE-APPROPRIATE: The logically-structured lessons have been designed to parallel the child's stage of development and classroom curriculum. SUCCESSFUL EDUCATIONAL MODEL: The book's lessons are derived from the Montessori school philosophy, which allows for the child to move at his or her own pace, and to be free to learn and grow within a peaceful setting. EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR PROMOTING HEALTH: Based on recent research by the National Institutes of Health, yoga for children has been shown to "enhance well-being,... reduce obesity, enhance concentration, and help children manage certain health conditions, such as headaches and irritable bowel syndrome. Studies suggest that yoga may also benefit children who have various mental and physical disabilities."

Breaking the Curse of Evil

Paul Levy Liberal-minded thinkers interested in Jungian psychology, shamanism, and self-transformation will be drawn to this impassioned treatise that frames the growing insanity of our times as a kind of psychic contagion that infects society with greed, egotism, and predatory instincts. A psychospiritual crisis is sweeping through our civilization like a contagion, infecting a growing number of people with greed, egotism, and destructiveness. The Native Americans had a name for this phenomenon--wétiko--and they recognized it with horror in the faces of the Europeans who arrived several centuries ago. Drawing on Jung, shamanism, and personal experience, author Paul Levy asserts that wétiko is not folklore but an actual entity that feeds on the psyche of its victims and blinds them to their own possession. For those who look at the current state of affairs and ask how such madness can exist, Levy provides an answer, as well as a solution. Lying dormant in the venom of wétiko, he argues, is its antidote--one that can help us wake up from this mass hypnosis and finally bring sanity back to society.

ESTABLISHED FAN BASE: In addition to publishing well over a hundred articles in various publications, Paul Levy has been giving talks and facilitating groups since 1993. His website (two years old) has received 150,000 hits, and more than 2,000 people have subscribed to his email list. STAR ENDORSER: Legendary rock star Sting is a big proponent of Wétiko and all of Paul Levy's work. THE 99% CONNECTION: Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi's now famous reference to Goldman Sachs as a "vampire squid" is a direct reference to wétiko and has popularized the concept.

"The world would be a better place if everyone read this book." --Sting "I do very much recommend Paul Levy's writings. Synthesizing a deep understanding of Jungian psychology and spirituality, Paul's work brilliantly illuminates the dreamlike nature of reality." --Dr. Arnold Mindell, founder of process-oriented psychology

Muscle Energy Techniques is designed for use by practitioners of physiotherapy, sports therapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, yoga, and Pilates, as well as students in these fields seeking to expand their understanding of functional anatomy. Muscle energy techniques (METs) are a tool for physical therapists to strengthen patients' weak muscles, restore normal muscle tone, increase joint mobility, and improve circulation, musculoskeletal function, and overall well-being. First developed in 1948 by American osteopath Fred Mitchell, METs are unique in their application: rather than the therapist initiating the effort, the patient contracts specific muscles against a resistance applied by the therapist, who is simply guiding the exertion in a controlled position and direction. In this concise guide, author John Gibbons explains the theory behind METs, demonstrates functional assessment testing for chronically tight and dysfunctional muscles, and shows how to apply specific METs to restore normality. Easy-to-follow postural muscle tables and 160 full-color photos and illustrations facilitate a clear understanding for students and provide an important reference tool for practitioners. ESTABLISHED AUTHORITY: Extensively qualified in osteopathy, sports and remedial massage, muscle energy techniques, reflexology, nutrition, and physical fitness, the author is an "expert's expert," widely sought as a lecturer and trainer to qualified professionals and elite-level and Olympic athletes in a range of sporting disciplines. UNIQUE ANGLE: The theoretical principles presented in Muscle Energy Techniques emerged from the author's clinical experience and provide an original framework to guide the practical application of techniques. EASY TO USE: Color photos and illustrations and easy-to-follow tables for postural muscles guide the practitioner in designing treatment protocols and tracking progress of patients. "John has created a readable text to describe one of the most useful tools in the manual therapist's repertoire. With clear illustrations and descriptions of each assessment and technique, any therapist will be able to quickly, safely, and correctly execute the very effective principles outlined." --James Earls, Kinesis UK

Windows to the Womb

Revealing the Conscious Baby from Conception to Birth

David Chamberlain Combining new research findings with the wisdom of a lifetime's research by pioneering birth psychologist David Chamberlain, Windows to the Womb will inform and inspire expectant parents; midwives, doulas, and obstetricians; birth psychologists and therapists who wish to gain a greater understanding of the minds of unborn children. In friendly nonacademic English, Windows to the Womb describes the mysterious processes by which we all develop from conception to birth, from a simple cellular organism to a full human being. New studies show the baby within the womb has more awareness of her surroundings than previously thought; the book maps the development of the body and the brain to fetal intelligence.

Fans of Derrick Jensen, Daniel Quinn, and Jared Diamond will be enthralled by this radical exploration of the history and future of civilization from a unique perspective: the human sense of self. The Ascent of Humanity is a radical exploration of the history and future of civilization, tracing the converging crises of our age to a common source: the ideology of the discrete and separate self. Taking to task the myth of a technological Utopia, author Charles Eisenstein traces the roots and development of our planetary crises through the halls of science, religion, education, medicine, and more. He digs beneath the usual targets of industry and agriculture to identify the origins of separation in everything that makes us human, from language and systems of measure to art and science. While such advances might help free us from natural limitations and improve our comfort and sense of well-being, they simultaneously distance us further and further from nature and each other, ultimately converging in a series of crises that is palpable across the planet. The ascent of humanity, Eisenstein argues, has led us to the brink of collapse. But even in the darkest days, there remains the possibility of a world that was meant to be--and the revolution is already underway. Breathtaking in its scope and intelligence, The Ascent of Humanity is a landmark book showing the possibility of a more beautiful world based on participation and collaboration. POPULAR AUTHOR: Charles Eisenstein is a growing presence in the alternative-economics and Occupy movements; his video Occupy Wall St. -- The Revolution is Love has received nearly 250K hits on YouTube, and he has been interviewed on over 30 radio shows and podcasts in just the last six months. GOOD SALES RECORD: The self-published edition of The Ascent of Humanity was widely praised and has sold 3K copies since 2007, with sales steadily increasing. REISSUE OF A CLASSIC: Masanobu Fukuoka's One Straw Revolution (1978), recently reissued by the New York Review of Books, has found a new generation of readers eager to learn about natural farming; Culture and Horticulture, written in the same era, is bound to appeal to the same audience. BACKYARD VEGGIE PLOTS, VICTORY GARDENS, AND URBAN FARMS ARE HOT: According to the USDA, around "15 percent of the world's food is now grown in urban areas" (http://bit.ly/vONcVn), and sustainable local food production has become mainstream. BIODYNAMIC IS THE NEW ORGANIC: Much large-scale organic farming still uses methods that are not in harmony with nature; biodynamic farming is recognized by purists as the most holistic form of food production. RESPECTED AUTHOR: German-born ethnobotanist Wolf D. Storl has a following on both sides of the Atlantic.

Praise for Dr. Storl's previous books

"The author, as you will quickly discover, is brilliant--a cultural ecologist ... and respected herbal elder.... I am humbled by how much I learned reading the wisdom of The Herbal Lore of Wise Women and Wortcunners." --Rosemary Gladstar, herbalist and best-selling author of Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health

About the Author/Illustrator Author Residence: Rohrdorf, Germany

WOLF D. STORL, PhD, is an ethnobotanist and the author of some two dozen books on herbalism, alternative medicine, ethnobotany, and shamanism. Born in Saxony, Germany, he received his PhD in ethnology from the University of Berne, Switzerland. His early post-doctorate career includes research in a Swiss biodynamic farming community, teaching anthropology and organic gardening at Rogue College in Oregon, participant-observer research at a traditional Swiss farm, and two years in India as a visiting scholar at the Benares Hindu University. Always interested in local gardening practices in his travels around the world, 25 years ago Dr. Storl was able to put his learning to the test when he and his family moved to a mountain farmstead in southern Germany. There he maintains a year-round vegetable garden and continues to teach, also appearing on television in the U.S. and many countries in Europe as a spokesman for natural horticulture.

Anyone interested in whole foods, health and nutrition, cannabis, and sustainable agriculture will be drawn to this groundbreaking hemp cookbook, and devotees of The Galaxy Global Eatery will be delighted to indulge their nostalgia for the place by re-creating these healthful, delicious, and culturally diverse dishes for their friends and family. The Galaxy Global Eatery Hemp Cookbook is the outcome of restauranteur Denis Cicero's dream of making hempseed a household ingredient and spreading the word about the virtues of this nutritious, healthful, gluten-free seed. Each of the nearly 200 recipes uses hempseeds, hempnuts, or hempseed oil, which are deliciously nutty in flavor. Vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike are honored, and there are many gluten-free recipes as well. The cookbook's diversity ranges from comfort food like Hempnut Burgers and Hempnut Fried Chicken to exotica like Pumpkin Hempanadas, Hemp Spätzel, and Spring Rolls with Spicy Hemp Sauce. Also provided are substitutions for hemp ingredients, as well as a list of resources for finding top-quality hemp products. HEMP IS HIP: In 2010, the retail value of hemp food and body-care products sold in the U.S. was $40.5 million--up 10 percent from 2009--and the retail value of North American hemp food and body-care products was in the range of $121 to $142 million. DAIRY- AND GLUTEN-FREE RECIPES: Vegans will love the clear instructions on how to make hemp milk, butter, and cheese, as well as the many vegan recipes throughout the book. Many recipes are gluten-free, and the growing demand for gluten-free food has helped hempseed's popularity soar in recent years. LOYAL FANS: In its 15 years, the popular 32-seat cafe served more than 1.5 million customers, and a Yelp search shows resounding dismay at its closing. This affordable paperback version will help devotees bring their favorite recipes back to life.

"Superbly written and presented ... features easy-to-follow recipes, enhanced with luscious full-color photographs, a simple glossary, and a true appreciation of the wonderful delicacies that can be enhanced with the flavor of hemp." --Midwest Book Review

This popular scholarly account of gardener Alan Chadwick's profound influence on the organic movement will appeal to anyone interested in the history of environmental science and the development of organic and sustainable agriculture. According to author Paul A. Lee, the pioneering work of English gardener Alan Chadwick has been largely neglected in contemporary histories of the environmental movement and writings on food and agriculture. In There Is a Garden in the Mind, Lee recounts his serendipitous meeting with Chadwick in Santa Cruz in the 1960s and their work together developing the UC Santa Cruz Chadwick Garden, the first organic and biointensive garden at a U.S. university. Contextualizing the revolutionary nature of Chadwick's work on this and subsequent organic gardens, Lee's memoir takes readers on a journey through the history of modern environmental science, from Goethe's critiques of Newton's Opticks and Rudolf Steiner's development of biodynamic agriculture to the first Earth Day in 1970, the origin of the term "organic," the development of California cuisine, and the present-day urban garden, locavore, and self-sufficiency movements.

TIMELY SUBJECT: There Is a Garden in the Mind speaks to the evolving awareness of the importance of organic and sustainable food production and the role of industrial agriculture in our country's national health crisis. FILLS IN A GAP: Alan Chadwick's profound contributions have been largely neglected in the boom of books on food production, organic farming, and the environmental movement; Lee's memoir fills in this gap in the knowledge. ACADEMIC AND POPULAR READERSHIP: There Is a Garden in the Mind will be a useful text for instructors and students of environmental studies as well as anyone interested in the origins and early battles of the organic food movement. DISTINGUISHED COLLABORATORS: Designed by award-winning book artist Jack Stauffacher, the memoir includes reproductions of Stauffacher's posters and broadsides that were created to commemorate important Chadwick Garden events, as well as historical photographs by Dennis Letbetter.

Michael Harner This long-awaited sequel to The Way of the Shaman will appeal not only to the author's tens of thousands of current and former students, but also to anyone interested in shamanism, spirituality, comparative religion, near-death experiences, healing, anthropology, and the works of Carlos Castaneda. In 1980, Michael Harner blazed the trail for the worldwide revival of shamanism with his seminal classic The Way of the Shaman. Now, in this long-awaited sequel, he provides readers with dozens of fascinating narrative accounts of the experiences of contemporary Westerners during shamanic ascension. Extracted from his decades-old archives, the striking similarities between the case studies suggest that these celestial realms, as well as the beings who live in them, do indeed exist. Dr. Harner then goes on to instruct readers how to use his innovative "sonic driving" technique to discover these realms for themselves.

His recent study, recounted in a completely new chapter and based on 110 clients (compared to just 11 previously) in the program, shows astounding results: 97% of all type 2 diabetics were off of all diabetes medication in 21 days. EXPERT AUTHOR: Gabriel Cousens is a holistic medical doctor with more than 35 years of success in healing diabetes naturally. GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH: Provides a new look at the role of carbohydrates and fat in the diet, revealing the serious dangers of low cholesterol and low omega 3s. LARGE AUDIENCE: Intended not only for diabetes sufferers, the revised edition includes an expanded recipe section, with 80% new recipes, and presents a diet for rejuvenation and optimal health for the healing of all humanity as well as for the preservation of our planet.

Cosmic Cradle, Revised Edition

Spiritual Dimensions of Life before Birth

Elizabeth M. Carman and Neil J. Carman, Ph.D. Do we choose our parents? Cosmic Cradle gathers together evidence that we do, in fact, make decisions about the families and circumstances into which we are born. This book will fascinate parents and grandparents and also serve as useful handbook to regression therapists and spiritual counselors interested in pre-birth experiences (PBEs), near-death experiences (NDEs), and other states of consicousness. Cosmic Cradle brings together traditional accounts, historic references, and interviews with contemporary individuals who remember their lives before they were born, detailing pre-birth memories of selecting parents, choosing to be reborn, and contacting would-be parents before birth.

UNIVERSAL PHENOMENON: Nearly 200 case histories, both traditional and modern, demonstrate that pre-birth experiences have been known and recognized through history and all over the world. HELPFUL: Children are often silent and frustrated about their pre-birth memories; parents and family members can help them understand the purpose and meaning of their births. WIDESPREAD BELIEF IN REINCARNATION: 24 percent of Americans believe in rebirth after death (2009 Pew Forum survey, http://bit.ly/dhPvE2). "This work of encyclopedic proportions is the rare fruit of thirty years of passionate and scholarly exploration of human consciousness, the neglected stepchild of twentieth-century psychology. Elizabeth and Neil Carman have thrown open a golden door. A stunning achievement." --David Chamberlain, PhD, editor of Birthpsychology.com and author of The Mind of Your Newborn Baby "Beauty, poetry, clarity: authentic convincing research." --Reverend Lucille M. Rosen, PhD, director of Healing Process Workshops, New York "Cosmic Cradle is an extraordinary research work, yielding a quasi-encyclopedic treasury of evidence for the soul's pre-existence." --Elisabeth Hallett, author of Soul Trek: Meeting Our Children on the Way to Birth

Journey of Your Soul

A Channel Explores the Michael Teachings

Shepherd Hoodwin; forewords by Jon Klimo and John Friedlander Recent years have seen a resurgence in the popularity of channeled teachings, the most prominent of which are from the group of entities known as Abraham (one best-seller being The Law of Attraction by Esther Hicks, a key figure behind The Secret). Channels say the beings known as Michael have also been building momentum; this book is the most comprehensive introduction to the Michael teachings and promises to bring them to a wider audience. The Journey of Your Soul presents Michael's liberating insights, laying out how we set up our lifetimes and why we're here; the roles we choose to play; the elements of our soul and personalities; the progression we make from life to life; and the goals, modes, attitudes, and agreements by which we operate.

POPULAR FIRST EDITION: The number of people finding useful guidance in channeled messages is growing: self-published edition sales were strong, and the Michael teachings are poised to take off in the channeling community. HELPFUL EXPLANATIONS: Most channeling books, although inspirational, lack clear descriptions of channeling processes and stages; The Journey of Your Soul provides a more analytical approach to soul development, with detailed descriptions of roles, cadres, entities, cadences, soul ages, levels of self, and other key concepts. ACTIVE AUTHOR: Co-moderator of the Michael Teachings Yahoo Group, which has 1200 members; mailing list of 5000; publishes a monthly spirituality newsletter, Perspectives.

Written in a user-friendly style and including scientifically supported information about the impact diet has on the risks for chronic disease, this book appeals to medical professionals as well as anyone interested in learning how to manage stress hormone levels, lose weight, and attain optimal health. Based on 35 years of clinical experience, Dr. Charles Moss presents an easy-to-implement, three-phase diet to normalize cortisol (the main stress hormone), lose weight, and reduce your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Cortisol, a major component of the worldwide obesity epidemic, increases in response to any inflammatory state. Inflammation arises from eating unhealthy fats and excess sugar, food allergies, and inadequate intake of bioactive foods like broccoli and garlic that normalize both gene expression and inflammation. Dr. Moss takes readers through a three-step program--detoxification, elimination of common food allergens, and the implementation of an anti-inflammatory diet--and includes more than 100 delicious recipes as well as menu plans for life-long control of biochemical stress. Using the science of epigenetics, he shows that by following the right dietary suggestions, we can change ourselves right down to our genes, slowing the aging process and reducing our chances for disease.

OBESITY IS ON THE RISE: The CDC projects that by 2030 42% of the U.S. population will be obese; lowering cortisol levels in overweight individuals can lead to weight loss and reduce the risk of numerous diseases. TIMELY TOPIC: The Weight of the Nation, a four-part, 2012 HBO documentary, focuses on the rise in the obesity epidemic and the serious health consequences of being overweight or obese. CUTTING-EDGE INFORMATION: Dr. Moss devotes a full chapter to epigenetics--the study of heritable changes in gene expression--and provides a blueprint for optimizing weight, reducing stress, and preventing chronic disease. CLEAR PLAN: Goes beyond the simple ideas put forth in many of today's fad diets and presents a solution to stabilizing cortisol (stress hormone) levels through diet with an easy-to-follow, three-part plan.

Aikido Ground Fighting

Grappling and Submission Techniques

Walther von Krenner, Damon Apodaca, Ken Jeremiah; Foreword by Carl Long A direct student of Morihei Ueshiba (the founder of Aikido), presents effective techniques that remain true to Ueshiba's teachings while addressing a widely acknowledged weakness in the system: what happens when the fight goes to the ground? While aikido is renowned for its submission and compliance techniques as well as grappling from a standing position, it is not known for its effectiveness when it comes to ground fighting. Aikido Ground Fighting: Grappling and Submission Techniques is a unique look at the roots of aikido techniques and how they might be applied to defense on the ground. Written by a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, this book remains steadfastly true to the founder's teachings while presenting innovative techniques for aikido students looking to become more well-rounded martial artists as well as those seeking effective self-defense techniques.

UNIQUE ANGLE: Potentially provocative in the aikido community, this book addresses a weakness of the art and provides real solutions--there is no other book that applies aikido techniques to ground fighting. AUTHOR CREDIBILITY: The primary author, a former Judo champion, is also a direct student of the founder of aikido; while the idea of "new" aikido techniques may be controversial to aikido practitioners, the authors are careful to root all material in the actual teachings of Morihei Ueshiba. NEW MATERIAL FROM THE FOUNDER: This book contains some quotes and lectures by the founder that have never been previously published in English. NEW MARKETS FOR AIKIDO: Aikido has often been criticized by other martial artists as being ineffective for real self-defense; Aikido Ground Fighting could open up aikido as an art of interest to students of other systems, demonstrating the root teachings of aikido that could, if practiced correctly, have much to offer in the way of "effectiveness."

Collected Poems of Joanna McClure

Joanna McClure; Foreword by Michael McClure; Introduction by Christopher Wagstaff

ON SALE 6/11/2013 NORTH ATLANTIC BOOKS HARDCOVER

978-1-58394-613-8 $35.00/$40.00 Can.

This collection of poems by one of the central women poets of the Beat generation will appeal to poetry lovers, feminists, and Beat culture historians interested in discovering--or rediscovering--the works of an influential yet seldom publicized 20th-century American poet. Joanna McClure's poems reveal the story of a central woman writer of the Beat generation. Married to poet Michael McClure soon after she arrived in San Francisco in 1954, Joanna was at the heart of the artistic circle that included Robert Duncan, Allen Ginsberg, and Jack Kerouac. At the same time, she was developing her own body of work, allowing her clear inner voice to guide her. Her poems claim the freedoms her generation struggled to achieve, yet they often do so in a playful voice, reveling in the beauty of the natural world and celebrating intimate love. Declaring that "poetry is where I keep company with myself," McClure wrote prolifically yet quietly, even as her life shifted focus to a career in early childhood development and she and Michael divorced. Now for the first time her poems are gathered in one volume, spanning the poet's entire writing life. SIGNIFICANT YET OVERLOOKED AMERICAN POET: Writing and publishing for over half a century, Joanna McClure is an accomplished and highly regarded poet; this volume gathers together poems previously available only in limited-edition chapbooks. PART OF A SERIES: The sixth installment of North Atlantic Books' Io Poetry Series, which celebrates influential figures of modern American poetry. FASCINATION WITH BEAT CULTURE: The lives of Beat writers and artists continue to spark the popular imagination, as evidenced by the 2012 movie Big Sur, based on Jack Kerouac and the historical figures portrayed in his novel by the same name. RESURGENT POETRY SCENE: A proliferation of poetry readings, slams, open mikes, social media groups, and online journals have revived appreciation for poetry in recent years. McClure's poems have strong appeal to a new generation of poetry aficionados.

The Healing Paradox

A Revolutionary Approach to Treating and Curing Physical and Mental Illness

Steven Goldsmith, M.D.

ON SALE 6/18/2013 NORTH ATLANTIC BOOKS TRADE PAPERBACK

978-1-58394-616-9 $18.95/$21.95 Can. BISAC 1: Health & Fitness - Alternative Therapies BISAC 2: Health & Fitness - Healing BISAC 3: Psychology & Psychiatry - General Page Count: 384 Trim Size: 6 x 9 Carton Count: 24 Illustrations: 10 B&W PHOTOS

This exciting, revolutionary treatment philosophy challenges our fundamentally combative approach to illness with fascinating case studies and compelling evidence, making it appealing to alternative-health practitioners of all modalities, as well as anyone who has doubts about the efficacy of Western medicine. Why does Western medicine fail when it comes to chronic physical and mental illness--and is there an alternative approach? Why do so many treatments and drugs work only for a limited time before eventually losing effectiveness or producing harmful side effects? Why is it that exposure to the cause of a disease is often the very thing that successfully prevents or even cures it? In psychotherapy, why does encouraging clients to exaggerate the expression of their depression or anxiety often promote healing and transformation better than any other method? Dr. Goldsmith has a single unifying answer, and it is at once counterintuitive and commonsensical: the root of the problem is our combative approach to illness. Instead of resisting and fighting our ailments, we should be cooperating with them--even embracing them. We should be looking for and applying treatments that are integrated with an illness's causes, not treating illness as an enemy to overcome and conquer. Drawing on fascinating case studies and personal experiences from his 40-year career as a medical doctor and psychiatrist--as well as abundant clinical, experimental, and public-health data that support his radical assertion--Dr. Goldsmith presents an exciting, revolutionary approach that will change the way you think about treating mental and physical illness.

UNIQUE TAKE ON A HOT TOPIC: Of the many successful books on the failures of modern medicine, none of them present this particular argument, which is both surprising and convincing. EXPERT AUTHOR: Dr. Goldsmith has been practicing medicine, psychiatry, psychotherapy, and homeopathy for decades and is featured as a guest lecturer at hospitals and academic conferences around the country. CONTROVERSIAL APPROACH: Shocking suggestions, such as encouraging depressed people to go even deeper into their depression, may create buzz and media interest. ALTERNATIVE HEALTH ON THE RISE: According to a nationwide government survey released in December 2008, 38 percent of U.S. adults and 12 percent of children use some form of complementary or alternative medicine.
