Welcome To Our New Brackley Unit!

O

ur newest unit in Brackley is going from strength to strength and is proving a welcome addition to the area.

The unit is benefiting from a true hero and war veteran, Geoff Abbey.

Falklands Conflict Veteran, Geoff Abbey was a serving Royal Marine and will be a steady guidance for our young Cadets. The Head Quarters Royal Marine Officer has rightly given Geoff permission for him to wear his hard earned Green Beret in Cadet Uniform.

Northants & Leicestershire had a cracking Summer Camp at SCTC Weymouth. With over 60 Staff and Cadets enjoying a chance to sharpen up their skills in Windsurfing, Sailing and Power Boating. We were joined by our Junior Cadets who also got afloat, visited local attractions and learnt new skills. As one cadet summed it all up by saying ‘The Camps are Wicked’

DMACT 3 saw 117 Staff and Cadets from Units across the District together with Long Eaton and Nottingham Units attend our 2nd DMACT this year at Yardley Chase Cadet Training Centre. Included in the weekend training sessions for Cadets were Catering, Shooting, Piping, Marine Engineering, Adventure Training, Power Boating, Seamanship, Meteorology and Junior Cadets Modules.

Success for Loughborough Sea Cadets Unit

A

rain filled evening did not dampen the enthusiasm of Loughborough Sea Cadets when Admiral John Kingwell inspected them at their Royal Naval Parade, held at the unit headquarters in Beeches road on October 6th.

Parents and friends turned out in force to celebrate the achievements of their young people, who put on displays of Catering, Stewarding, Meteorology, Navigation, Communications and First Aid. Also in attendance were representatives from the local community, Deputy Lord. Lt. Terry Higggins and many senior members of the Sea Cadet Corps. At the end of the evening the Admiral - a former Sea Cadet himself, who attended Loughborough Sea Cadets as a volunteer staff member while at University in the town during the 1980s - presented awards and promotions’ earned during the previous month to Juniors and Bluejackets before addressing the ships company, guests and parents, saying how much he appreciated the Sea Cadets and the work put in by the volunteers at Loughborough.

The night, however, belonged to the cadets who proved, yet again that they can rise to any challenge.

n Saturday 3rd October Captain Russell Royal Navy visited Kettering Unit. During his visit he presented the Unit with it’s 2015 Burgee Award. Leading Junior Sea Cadet ALMARK can be seen receiving the award from the Captain. Captain Russell also presented Lieutenant (SCC) Phil Pether RNR with the Captains Medal for 50 years service to the Sea Cadet Corps.

Appointment of New Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet

orporal Matthew Mullally, Northampton Unit, was invested by David Laing, the Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, as his new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet. The outgoing Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, PO Cdt Tew, from Kettering Unit was also present.

A

t 10:16 am on 3rd October 1940 a lone German Dornier bomber dropped incendiary bombs on Rushden. Amongst the casualties were seven children when a bomb fell into the School Playground at Alfred Street Junior School.

To Commemorate the 75th anniversary a member of the NFS Visitors, who was a pupil at the school on that day, planted a Rememberance Tree.

The day ended on a Happier Note when pupils from the school were able to try out a canoe brought along by AC H WILLMOTT. Two pupils have subsequently joined Rushden Unit and the

Headmaster of Alfred Street Junior Scholl is keen for a Year 6 SCC Assembly to take place.
