SATURDAY NOVEMBER 30 | KICK-OFF 3PM

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 30 | KICK-OFF 3PM
It’s back to the important job of winning league matches after our eventful North Riding Senior Cup tie with Redcar Athletic.
This is our last match at the Calvert Stadium for three weeks and today’s opponents Seaham Red Star need points just as much as we do, so we can expect a very tough battle.
Back in August we came away from Seaham with a 2-1 victory with what was effectively a new team. Since then, we’ve gelled as a squad and made real progress.
We have much more competition for places, particularly with our recent new signings, and I’m delighted with the way our new boys have settled in.
Eight of our last nine goals have been scored by players who are recent arrivals, so they are really underlining their value to our squad Luke McCormack, Mark Sims, Scott Ryan, Jordan Blinco and Joe Lamb have all found the net.
Nathan Stephenson, who rejoined us only two months ago, has scored three of those goals – and he will have a long way to go to beat Tuesday’s Beckham-esque 30-yard lob shot over the Redcar ‘keeper’s head for our opening goal on Tuesday
So we’ve got lots of reasons to feel positive Now we need to make the most of a demanding pre-Christmas run that sees us visiting Shildon, Marske United, Crook Town and North Shields.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We need to turn potential into points, starting with today’s visit of Seaham.

MANAGER SPONSORSHIP
on Newall - Highly successful manager of hmond Town joined us in summer 2024.
Northallerton exited the North Riding Senior Cup in a crash, bang, wallop of a contest that finished in a schoolyard scoreline.
Fans of both sides were kept entertained by the deluge of goals and the chance to see unfamiliar players show their skills.
Town manager Jason Newall handed a first start to 17-year-old Dan Dryden up front and re-introduced Lewis Cocks into the back line following a 10-day break from action prompted by last weekend’s freeze-out.
They enjoyed the best possible start with an outstanding goal from Nathan Stephenson after 16 minutes. Spotting Redcar’s Ben Taylor off his line, he let fly with a 30-yarder that looped over the ‘keeper’s head into the net – a strike to grace any level of football.
The lead lasted less than two minutes, however, as Redcar equalised through Jack Blackford. The First Division leaders, arguably the fittest and fastest team in the Ebac Northern League, wasted no time in seizing the initiative with former Boro striker Brad Fewster putting them in front after 33 minutes.
Town keeper Callum Dobson made a vital close-range stop from Fewster to prevent further damage before half-time, but it didn’t take long for the visitors to extend their lead after the break.
Although Dobson appeared to get a glove on it, Jake Stott saw his shot cross the line amid a goalmouth scramble after 47 minutes. The Town ‘keeper continued to perform heroics but there was no stopping Redcar – or Stott – who grabbed their fourth 10 minutes later.
Northallerton hardly had time to reset before Fewster added a fifth a minute later. But then came a spirited revival that owed much to the introduction of fresh bodies from the bench
Tafari Nicholas had been on the field for only four minutes when he pulled a goal back from close range. And after 67 minutes the gap narrowed again after good work by two substitute debutants, Eddie Thomas squaring neatly for Scott Ryan to poke the ball home
The basketball scoring rate continued when Stott sealed his hat-trick with a final slam dunk for Redcar in the 77th minute. Both sides continued to pour forward in search of further goals, Dobson making a good save from substitute Callum Guy and Stephenson forcing ‘keeper Taylor into a good fingertip save with another sharp effort.
But fans had to settle for just the nine . . .
Northallerton Town: Dobson, Stapley, Cocks, Darville, Harwood, Allen, Raper, Walker (Ryan 46’), Banks (Thomas 60’), Stephenson, Dryden (Nicholas 60’). Subs not used: Dixon, Sims.
Man of the Match: Liam Darville.

Eddie Thomas joins from Whickham, having previously scored 18 goals for Newton Aycliffe in their promotion-winning season. He subsequently signed for Marske United and enjoyed loan spells with Guisborough and Whitley Bay before joining Whickham.
He made his debut from the bench in Tuesday’s North Riding Senior Cup tie with Redcar Athletic.
Striker Scott Ryan, who has joined from Sunderland RCA, is no stranger to the Calvert Stadium as he has played for us twice before.
Scott scored on his third debut for Town when he came off the bench to score our third goal against Redcar Athletic on Tuesday - a goal set up by Eddie.
All six new boys will give manager Jason Newall extra options for the second half of the season.
Nobody knows the exact formation date of Northallerton Town Football Club, but The Elliott Bowl, a trophy donated by local MP, Sir George Elliott, was contested for the first time in 1895 carries the club’s name as its first winner.
Known variously as Northallerton, Northallerton Alliance and Northallerton Town, the club played for many years on the Bluestone Ground behind County Hall. Many honours were won during this period including The Harrogate and District League Championship,
The Club was forced to leave its Bluestone ground in 1974 when North Yorkshire County Council put a compulsory purchase order on the ground in order to extend the County Hall. The council re-housed the club on its present Ainderby Road ground where two pitches, a clubhouse, changing rooms and car park were officially opened on August 21 1976.
Northallerton continued to play in the Harrogate and District League until the end of the 1981-82 season when, with chairman Stan Kirkbride and manager Neil Milestone at the helm, they successfully applied to become founder members of the new Northern League Second Division.
Joining the Northern League was a big step for the club as something like £150,000 had to be raised to upgrade the Ainderby Road ground to Northern League standards. The Club’s first game in the Northern League was on August 28 1982 when they were defeated 4-1 at Ryhope. A week later, Town gained revenge with a 2-0 home victory when Ryhope became the first Northern League visitors to Ainderby Road.
Early years in the Northern League were difficult but Town did reach the final of the North Riding County Cup in the 1983-84 season, unfortunately losing 2-1 to York Railway Institute. The appointment of former Burnley, Leeds United and Middlesbrough star Ray Hankin as manager in March 1989 saw an upturn in the club’s fortunes. Hankin guided them to promotion to the First Division in 1989-90, having finished runners-up in the Second Division behind champions Murton. Season 1990-91 saw the club consolidate itself in Division One, but at the end of that season Hankin resigned and his number two, Geoff Cane, was appointed manager.
Under Cane, the Club enjoyed great success in both the FA Trophy and the FA Cup - reaching the last 16 in the F.A Trophy in 1992-93 before going out to Farnborough of the Vauxhall Conference - and in the same season they reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup before narrowly losing at Accrington Stanley.
In our last full season pre-Covid-19, 2018-19, however, the Club under Darren Trotter managed to win the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup for a record time and gained promotion for the first time in ten years back into the Ebac Northern League Division one After a history of financial struggle and disappointment in recent years, there is now real optimism around the Calvert Stadium under new manager Jason Newall.
