Splash with Cash for St. Arnaud Swimming Pool NORTHERN Grampians Shire Council has been successful in obtaining a grant for the St. Arnaud Swimming Pool of $1.9 million for upgrades and the development of changerooms for the centre. The grant has been made as part of the latest round of Regional Community Sports Infrastructure grants by the Victorian Government to build more swimming pools, sporting grounds and courts and pavilions across regional Victoria. Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence has announced that St. Arnaud is one of 26 new infrastructure projects across Victoria that will share in more than $20 million to make their local facilities even better. Ms Spence stated that the new Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is about making sure all Victorians, regardless of their age, gender or ability, have access to high quality sport and recreation facilities no matter where they live. The grant will kickstart a transformative redevelopment, including an

upgraded aquatic system with new hydraulics, balance tank, and filtration, new wet deck, and entry ramp to the 50 metre pool. Upgrades to changerooms and amenities will be included, with a dedicated first aid and kiosk area, and all-abilities family-friendly changeroom.

Council contribution The Northern Grampians Shire Council will invest $650,000 to the project resulting in a $2.6 million project providing the St. Arnaud community with a modern, accessible, and inclusive aquatic facility. “The St Arnaud Swimming Pool Aquatic and Changeroom Redevelopment Project is a huge win for the people of St Arnaud,” Northern

Haswell said. “We are always optimistic with grant submissions, but the outcome is never certain. “This was a very competitive fund and staff did an excellent job putting our case forward. “On completion, the St. Arnaud community will have access to modern changerooms with upgraded shower and toilet facilities; new tiling and painting of pools; and an upgraded administration/first aid and kiosk area,” Cr Haswell added. A crucial element of this project is Northern Grampians Shire Council ability to support health, wellbeing, and social

inclusion among residents with these upgraded recreational amenities including a new access ramp to the pool. The pool will be open as usual in the summer of 2024 with works commencing at the end of the swimming pool season in 2025.

Other successful projects The funding will be used to upgrade three sporting facilities across the Ripon electorate with Deledio Recreation Reserve in Dunolly to receive $1 million to begin critical construction of a new fully compliant and femalefriendly prefabricated

modular sports pavilion, including four change rooms, umpires’ rooms, trainers’ room, first aid room, storage, kitchen and deck with an accessible ramp. The Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve in Smythesdale will receive $700,000 to begin a redevelopment of two multi-lined netball/tennis courts, including new fencing, shelters, and spectator seating for sports events. The Ballarat Aquatic Leisure Centre will get almost $750,000 to add three accessible and sensory friendly change rooms and, install automatic gates and sliding doors at the venue, providing easy access for the whole community.

Ripon MP applauds success Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said the funding will transform our much-loved local sports facilities for the future. “This will make them modern, fit-for-purpose, and world-class for the thousands of rural and regional Victorians that use them every week.”

Second round of funds The second round of the fund is set to open later this year. For more information about the Fund and successful projects visit sport.vic.gov.au.
