Your voice has a win and saves Teddington Reservoir MEMBER for Ripon, Martha Haylett, has questioned the Minister for Environment, Mr. Steve Dimopoulos, in State Parliament, in order to provide a further update on the future of the Upper Teddington Reservoir in Stuart Mill. “As people across Ripon know, this reservoir is a very special place. “It is a favourite camping and fishing spot for so many and holds so many memories for locals in Stuart Mill, St. Arnaud, Carapooee, Kooreh, Avoca and beyond. “When it was announced that the

reservoir would be decommissioned, before I was the local MP, it sent shockwaves across our region. “I have been contacted by hundreds of people about this issue and cannot travel anywhere across Northern Grampians shire without it coming up. “For two years now I have been telling Parks Victoria that this is not what the community want and they want to be heard. “I understand that Parks Victoria has recently agreed to reconsider the decision to decommission the reservoir, but locals

And the winner is… IT is only last week that we were praising a member of the Navarre John Parry family, Caijun Parry, for being nominated fo r a p re st i g i o u s international music award. So this week, we announce that Caijun (or Spice as he is known to many) has now won that award. He was nominated f o r B r e a ko u t t h e Mashup Artist of the Year at the Electronic Dance Music Awards (EDMA) which were held in Miami, Florida USA. Caijun has had an incredible and unforgettable week in Miami, where the judging was held as the new winning breakout mashup artist of the year. On his Facebook page Caijun looked back nostalgically and how he got to this place. “My younger self, DJing and trying to make music in my bedroom, would have never imagined we'd be here today winning breakout mashup artist of the year.” There is a lesson here for all of us, never give up on your dreams. Well done, Caijun.

are eager to know more details about the next steps. “I look forward to providing them with the minister’s response.

The Answer The Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos thanked the Member for Ripon for her continued advocacy on behalf of her community regarding the Upper Teddington Reservoir in Stuart Mill and confirmed that Parks Victoria is now exploring options to repair and maintain the dam to ensure it meets mandated

safety requirements and the needs of the local community. “Parks Victoria has engaged an engineering consultant to undertake further technical assessments to identify options to improve dam safety levels. A community reference group will be established and facilitated by Parks Victoria to ensure that stakeholders and the community can provide input and receive updates on the project. “The first meeting will take place once the technical assessments have been completed” Mr Dimopoulos said.

Step into the history of Ambulance Victoria ON Sunday 6th April, the Ambulance Victoria Museum at Bayswater is opening its doors, giving visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history of Victoria’s ambulance service and how emergency care has evolved.

On show will be the volunteer-run museum’s extensive collection of vintage ambulances, medical equipment, uniforms, communications technology and more. Ambulance Victoria Chas Martin OAM Museum Curator Ralph Casey said the historical vehicles are always a drawcard. “We have 30 ambulance vehicles in our collection, including ambulances used as far back as 1887, and most will be on display at the open day,” Ralph said. “The collection also includes ambulance motorbikes, the first Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance vehicle and even a mass casualty bus which could have transported up to 12 patients on stretchers and six seated patients. “At the open day, visitors are welcome to sit in the ambulances, take photos, touch the uniforms and equipment, and meld into what it was like back in the day.” The museum was the brainchild of a group of retired ambulance officers who formed the Ambulance Historical Society of Victoria in 1986 and began acquiring and restoring vintage ambulances, starting out with just six vehicles. Currently, the museum is open between 10am and 2pm on Mondays and by appointment-only on other days, so the open day is an opportunity for more Victorians to see the collection on display. Ralph said visitors will walk away with a better understanding of how far pre-hospital emergency care has come since ambulance services started in Melbourne in the 1880s. “There have been huge improvements in medical and communications technology and equipment, and the open day will give people the opportunity to physically see how

these things have evolved,” Mr Casey said. “Most of our volunteers who help run the museum are former paramedics and they will be on hand to tell visitors more about the items and vehicles on display, as well as give presentations throughout the day on ambulance history.” “Most of our visitors go away in awe with an appreciation of what it was like in the past, and that’s exactly what a museum is meant to do.” Around 20 volunteers help run the museum, including retired paramedics, mechanics, presenters and more. The museum is on the lookout for more volunteers interested in the archiving of documents and incoming memorabilia. The open day is a free, family-friendly event running from 10am to 2pm at 1/55 Barry St, Bayswater VIC 3153. Guided tours and light refreshments will be available, with books and merchandise available for purchase. For further information about the museum or to make an appointment to visit at another time, contact the Ambulance Historical Society on 0419 619 430 or ambulance.historical@outlook.com.
