The lights go out for Donald’s Esoteric Music Festival THE company behind Donald’s Esoteric Music Festival has entered voluntary administration owing millions to creditors and ticket holders as well as employees. ASIC documents indicate that the business owes more than $2.8million in debts. Unless someone buys the parent business, and the debt that is attached, the future of troubled Esoteric Festival is uncertain. The Esoteric festival, an electronic music, arts and lifestyle event, was cancelled in March this year the day before it was due to start. Buloke Shire Council officers recommended that the event’s permit be denied due to health and safety concerns. As the application for the permit was for 10 years the Council decided that a permit be granted for one year. This was overturned however by the Municipal Building Surveyor, not granting a POPE permit, the day before the festival was due to be held. Patrons were left queueing at the gate to get in only to be told that the festival would not go ahead. About 8,000 patrons, who paid between $355 and $375 each, and 3,000 volunteers that were given free tickets.

Administrator’s request time Worrells Solvency and Forensic Accountants (Worrells) has been appointed as the company administrator. Creditors, other than those who were issued with free tickets and employees, include companies such as a lighting company, food producers, audio technicians, and carpenters are $540,000 out of pocket.

Patrons hit social media The response from public on social media has been swift with all comments supportive of the festival and the organizers. One response was, “I was so excited to share my artwork with everyone, I flew across the world for this! “ Another, “I met a couple who were among the earliest to arrive at the esoteric festival, having driven all the way from Adelaide. “It was their late son's favorite place. “He had found a special connection there before sadly passing away last year in his 20s. “They were there to honor his memory and celebrate what would have been his birthday, keeping his spirit alive in a place he loved so dearly. “When it was announced that the festival was cancelled, I went looking for them, but they had already left.” And another, “Heartbreaking news. Full support and love to you guys… absolutely stunned by this”.

INSIDE TODAY

RSL lighting up the way with LEDs THE St. Arnaud RSL has recently completed significant lighting upgrades throughout its building. The outdated fluorescent lighting, which had long been in need of improvement, has now been replaced with modern, energy-efficient LED fixtures. This refurbishment will not only enhance the overall lighting quality but is also expected to significantly reduce electricity costs— an important improvement

for a facility of this size. The upgrade will make a meaningful difference for veterans and all members of the RSL community, ensuring a more comfortable and

cost-effective environment for years to come. A total of 8 LED highbay lights were installed with 34,100 lumens each. A standard LED downlight has 550 lumens. This project has been made possible through the support of Martha Haylett, Member for Ripon and the State Government’s Veterans

Capital Works Grant Program where organisations can apply for up to $50,000 to improve buildings or facilities that deliver services to the veteran community. This project would also not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the St. Arnaud RSL team, Bob Wooley, John Beggs and others.
