It’s not just the duration; sleep also depends on being seamless and uninterrupted and deep enough to be restorative. Stress, work and financial pressures all have a negative impact on sleep.

World Sleep Day 2023 takes place on Friday, 17 March, and this year’s theme is Sleep is Essential for Health. And just like eating well and exercising, sleep is a behaviour that is vital to our physical, mental, and social well-being.

Our tips for getting some essential shut eye

ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR A BETTER NIGHT’S SLEEP:

Put Your Electronic Devices Away

The blue light emitted from smartphones, tablets and computers can disrupt your natural circadian rhythm and make your brain think it’s still daytime.

REDUCE YOUR CAFFEINE INTAKE

Did you know that it can take up to 10 hours to completely clear caffeine from your bloodstream?

So, stay hydrated with water, or switch to a decaf version!

Create A Relaxing Environment

Calming activities like taking a bath, reading a book or meditating can help you relax. Also, keep bedrooms dark, cool and quiet

Incorporate Exercise Into Your Day

Regular physical activity throughout the day can help to promote sleep; however, avoid exercising before going to bed.
