Steps to a Sustainable Future

Skill Building Phase During the year 21 group meetings were organized for our mentees. The meetings provided them with a chance to gain new skills.

This year group meetings were closed with a test meeting titled “Situation analysis”. This group meeting provided the participants with a chance to practice their knowledge and skills through finding different solutions to the situations.

Mentoring Phase The group meetings of the Mentoring Phase are also now over. In total we had 9 group meetings for our mentor-mentee pairs. Those meetings helped the mentees gain self-reliance and stable their emotional level. This phase was over with the group meeting titled “Reveal your past, present and future.” The meeting was aimed to teach the mentees to plan their future goals with the help of their past experience and present potential.

The end of individual meetings The mentor—mentee individual meetings that were started in September, 2013 were done in July, 2014. As a result, in total 120 individual meetings were organized. Through the individual meetings the mentees gained knowledge, self-assurance towards their abilities, had individual growth, and gained responsibility towards their steps and behavior.

Certificates to Mentors At the end of the mentoring individual meetings the Executive Director of Nor Luyce NGO handed out “How to be a Mentor” certificates to the mentors on July 13, 2014. The certificates represented the fact that mentors actively took part in the theoretical and practical part of the mentoring phase and successfully finished the phase with their mentees.

The start of a New Mentoring Phase During this period the New Mentoring Phase was started and altogether 7 group meetings were realised. The new mentors presented group meetings that were based on their specialities. The following group meetings were organized: “Friendship,” “21st Century Human

Slavery”

(trafficking),

“Armenian

Folklore,”

“Fashion,” “The Rights of a Consumer,” “Bad Habits,” and “Who I am.” The meetings helped both our new mentors and new mentees find out more about each other, learn about each other’s hobbies and choose either a mentor or a mentee according to their inerests.

Overall Group Meetings Throughout the year 15 overall group meetings were organized. The meetings were addressed to develop global awareness in mentees. 5 meetings out of 15 were realized during the last two months.

Due to these meetings the mentees learned about discrimination and stereotypes and felt the importance of tolerance. Out of all of the group meetings the most important was the visit to the Employment Center and meeting with the center’s director, who presented all the available jobs in our community and invited us to take part in a job fair. These meetings helped the mentees choose a profession and see what opportunities were currently available.

With the help of “Sincerity” group meeting the mentees had a chance to learn more about each other, get new information and become better friends.

The overall group meetings were finished with “A tour of Gyumri” cultural event. The tour was given by our mentees. With all of the mentees and mentors we visited the historical districts of Gyumri and two museums: Mher Mkrtchyan house-museum and Dzitoghtsyan house-museum, that helped us learn more about the city.
