History

Norfolk Collegiate School was established in 1948 as a nursery school and kindergarten, and was known at that time as Carolton Oaks School (today, the school nickname is “The Oaks”). By 1950, the tiny school had already added a new wing with seven classrooms to accommodate its rapidly growing student body. Over the next five years, more land was acquired and new buildings were constructed. By the end of the decade, the school had expanded through grade 8, and had more than 400 students. The school continued to grow with the first class graduating in 1973. The school was renamed Norfolk Collegiate School in 1973, reflecting the school’s college preparatory mission.
