campaign tactic, but after learning of the appointment of Stephen Bannon — a prominent leader in the white nationalist and alt-right movements — as a senior counselor to the president, my darkest fears about the man who will soon lead our country were strongly reaffirmed. "Stephen Bannon has no place in the White House and his racist views have no place in our society. Put simply, he is a hate peddler, and the Breitbart News Network he manages is nothing more than a well of depravity masquerading as journalism. His appointment — one of Presidentelect Trump’s first official acts — is not only mortifying, but also a stark reminder of how far our country has to go in quelling hate both inside and outside the halls of government."
City of Oxnard awarded
$4.1 million judgment to go towards street improvements
OXNARD, Calif.–The Superior Court of California for the County of Ventura awarded a $4.1 million judgment on Sept. 26, 2016, to the City of Oxnard following a dispute between the City and Southern California Gas Company over the costs of relocating gas lines for the Rice Avenue/Santa Clara Avenue Interchange Improvement project that was completed in 2012. The Superior Court judgment comes after the California Court of Appeals for the 2nd District in January 2016 reversed the Superior Court’s original 2014 ruling to dismiss the City’s lawsuit to recover the costs it paid to Southern California Gas Company to relocate the gas lines so that

the capital improvement project could proceed. “This is a big win for the Oxnard community,” said Oxnard Public Works Director Dan Rydberg. “We’re pleased to be able to use these funds for critical street repairs that will greatly enhance the quality of life for our residents,” he said. Oxnard City Attorney Stephen Fischer thanked the City’s project manager Cynthia Daniels for her diligence in documenting project costs, which facilitated the full recovery of the relocation expenses and the City Council’s decision to pursue the appeal. “I would also like to thank the City’s litigation counsel, Holly Whatley of Colantuono, Highsmith & Whatley for her excellent work in obtaining a judgment completely in the City’s favor,” Fischer added. WASHINGTON, DC - This fall, AARP is encouraging Medicare beneficiaries to read their annual Notice of Change and to review their health and prescription drug plan options for 2017 during Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15th - December 7th). Given the trend in high prescription medication prices, consumers are advised to pay close attention to their Medicare Part D drug plan options to help save money. Medicare plans often change their cost-sharing and coverage benefits every year. However, insurers must notify all their enroll-
ees of any plan changes for the coming year before the end of September. AARP strongly recommends that people read these Notices of Change carefully, compare their current plan with other available plans, and change to a different plan during open enrollment if it better meets their current needs. People satisfied with their current coverage do not need to do anything because reenrollment will occur automatically. "The out-of-pocket copay amounts that people are paying for their prescription drugs are going up MEDICARE, See page 12A
