AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson spoke to the country’s racial tension and offered support for the Black Lives Matter movement at a recent conference. The AT&T CEO’s comments – given to employees at the company’s National Employee Resource Groups conference in Dallas – were recorded by an

employee and have generated over a million YouTube views. They’ve been widely aggregated by various news sites. Stephenson challenges the employees to seek understanding about the causes of the country’s current racial tension and to engage in tough conversations. “If this is a dialogue

that’s going to begin at AT&T, I feel like it probably ought to start with me,” Stephenson said. Stephenson based his speech around the ways that hearing a close friend’s recent speech challenged him to take a closer look at the issues. Black Publishers Declare ‘State of Emergency’ in U.S.

Point to Rise in Police Brutality Against Blacks as Reason for Their Demands By D. Kevin McNeir The National Newspaper Publishers Association [NNPA], the nation’s largest trade association of AfricanAmerican-owned newspapers and media companies, recently declared the existence of a police brutality state of emergency in the U.S. with respect to Black America. And during a press conference on Friday, Sept. 23, the leaders of the organization who represent a collective of 211 Black-owned newspapers in 32 states with a reach that extends to 20.1 million readers per week, said they intend to raise their

voices in solidarity while issuing a list of four recommended action items that they’ll deliver to President Barack Obama, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and members of Congress.

Community invited to candidate debates scheduled at Oxnard PACC

OXNARD, Calif.–The public is invited to hear from candidates vying for office in the upcoming November election at two debates hosted by the Inter-Neighborhood Council Organization (INCO) on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, and Monday, Oct. 17, 2016. Both events are scheduled for 7-9 p.m. in the main auditorium at the Performing Arts and Convention Center, 800 Hobson Way. Admission is free. The Oct. 13 debate will feature 11 candidates running for two Oxnard City Council seats. On Oct. 17, the community will hear from three mayoral hopefuls.
