annual conference WASHINGTON, DC — The African American Mayors Association (AAMA) will welcome hundreds of mayors from across the country, federal policymakers, technology innovators and other thought-leaders to its annual conference in Washington, D.C this week. In the spirit of this year’s theme, “change, challenge and opportunity,” AAMA mayors will connect with cross-sector stakeholders and leaders to share best practices and discuss strategies to influence policy-making in technology, gun violence, infrastructure, and more. Food Forward Ventura County hosts backyard harvests throughout Ventura on May 20, 2017, to recover fresh local produce that would otherwise go to waste and connect this abundance with people in need Ventura, CA – Food Forward’s Backyard Harvest Program puts together a day of harvesting for those in need through their Citrus Saturday event. On May 20, 2017, Food Forward volunteers all across Ventura County will come together to harvest a vari-
ety of citrus from backyard trees throughout the area. As they arrive at these properties, they will witness an abundance that can be seen in many backyards throughout Southern California. Food Forward typically harvests anywhere from 100 to 1,500 pounds of produce from a single backyard, all of which is then donated to local hunger relief agencies serving those most vulnerable to food insecurity in the community.
