22 years ago, Norden Surfboards was founded by Angelo Schmitt & Andy Wirtz at times when surfing in the northern hemisphere began to take off. With more and more people venturing the surf in northern Europe, the Norden crew realized that the commonly available equipment was not designed to match the wave conditions or performance needs of this new crowd of surfers.
The two veterans of the sport revisited the reason why they started surfing in the first place to inform their vision for innovative board designs: the pure fun of just riding a wave.
In 2002 Norden recruited legendary Shaper Glen D´arcy from Jeffrey’s Bay which became the key to their success in years to come. Glen is one of a few master shapers who has the skills to build surfboards from nearly all periods of surfing. Glen has built over 50 000 surfboards by hand and knew exactly how to help translate Norden´s vision into exciting new board designs. These shapes are not high performance surfboards that aim to make you look like the latest pro on the World Tour but a range of boards that combine old school designs with visionary, sometimes futuristic ideas to enable surfers to catch more waves, a lot of waves!-no matter how skilled the rider or how good, or bad the conditions are.
Today, more then two decades later, surfing has evolved to a higher level of performance and even a much wider audience. People today are riding waves on all kinds of equipment: shortboards, midlength, longboards, skimboards, new futuristic foilboards….you name it!
We at Norden are stoked to see this developement and are proud to be part of this history the past 22 years. It shows that our original vision, -the very reason we started Norden-Surfboards, hit the spot. With our ever-growing collection of surf crafts for all conditions and performance levels, more people are catching more waves and they are doing so with the simple aim in mind:
STANDARD POLYESTER - PU/Polyester construction is still the main way to build a surfboard. The manner in which these boards flex and the way the foam sinks into turns is still unmatched any other construction. Most of our surfboards are still built this way. Our Standard Polyester construction is one of the best qualities on the market, using only the best PU blanks, fibreglass and polyester resin.
CLASSIC TINT - The tinted surfboard design goes way back to the early sixties, when people were not able to spray designs onto boards, instead they mixed colour tints into the resin to give them a design. Today this design-technology is very rare. As these boards have to be glassed in two steps from both sides, and need to cure in between each step of the glassing, it also makes them really solid. All our alternative Retro Surfboards are available in classic tint designs.
SUPER LIGHT EPOXY - Our Super Light Epoxy Line is a slightly lighter and stiffer surfboard technology. Using EPS cores in combination with epoxy glassing and carbon stringers has a livelier flex then normal PU/polyester surfboards and is way lighter and stronger. It also offers better performance when the conditions are clean. In our opinion this technology does not make sense with every shape. We have tested many of our boards with this technology and created a small line of shapes that match up perfectly with this new material. The EPS/Epoxy Line is more eco-friendly. EPS Blank are blown with hot steam based on water and Epoxy resin creates less toxic gas.
EPS/ EPOXY - Our “First Ride” models are made in a strong and durable “eps/epoxy” construction with extra layers of glass, a full wood veneer deck and design applied on the outside of the board. Ideal for surf schools and rentals, as well as people who need a super durable surfboard for the whole family, that can take some serious beatings.
CARBON ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION - New in our surfboard range is the carbon active construction. Similar to our SUP and Surfkiteboard construction, it offers a very light EPS core with a biaxial carbon sandwich layup, which allows the board to flex in your turn for a more lively feel and better acceleration. The light EPS core creates more lift when paddeling which results into easier wave catching, though the weight has been balanced so the classic longboard feel stays alive.
EVOLUTION BOARDS - The ‘Norden Evolution Series’ forms the core of our line of shapes. The main idea behind this line is to offer you a selection of solid, no nonsense boards that will work for anyone in the broadest possible range of conditions. We want to give you a board that will give you maximum fun at your average home spot. The Evolution Series’ shapes have been favourites of our clients since the beginning of Norden Surfboards.
ALTERNATIVE BOARDS - The Norden ‘Alternative Series’ brings you the finest selection of the most refined classic surfboards. These shapes are geared towards more experienced surfers and those who want to put that extra classic style and finesse into their glide. THE Norden SURFSCHOOL SOFTBOARDS
Our new range of Softboards is the most thoughtfully designed board construction method, engineered specifically to meet the demands of surf schools anywhere. The unique colour designs - aside from giving these boards a classic look – were carefully developed to visually assist the surf student to learn to ride more quickly: The black tail-area shows the rider where to park her feet while paddling. No more lying to far forward or backward on the board! Additionally, blue-coloured areas provide foot placement references for takeoff and riding. The placement of the colour marks is optimally proportioned for one-size-fits-all usage.
SOFTBOARD CONSTRUCTION
Our Softboard construction is unique. 25 kg EPS cores with a double wood stringers, 2 layers of 6-ounce fibreglass top and bottom, full EVA deck, slick bottom, and soft fins might be all common design features for high quality school boards. However, at norden we are always looking to go the extra mile to improve performance and user friendliness. With this in mind, our Softboards are additionally equipped with rails that are completely foiled and shaped, just like on any normal surfboard. This feature gives a beginner a much better chance to manoeuvre the board from day one. The EVA nose- and tail-blocks are not glued onto the outside, as is common for ordinary school boards. Instead they are laminated into the construction and will never come off. These construction improvements, combined with the teaching-aid EVA colour-stripe deck design, open up a completely new way of teaching people how to surf. This makes the Norden Softboard the strongest and most advanced schooling board available on the market today.

The Mixer is the best of two worlds, it paddles and trims like a log and turns like a high performance longboard. PINTAIL
The Norden Pintail is our classic Longboard SUP, it offers good stability and is the perfect board if you prefer the longboard style SUP riding with ocasional noserides and drop-knee turns. The Pintail 10´0 is a great allround SUP for people up to 85 kg and works really well for flat water paddeling, the Pintail Pro 9´6 is a pure performance longboard surf SUP.

BIG DIAMOND
For anyone looking for a shape with maximum stability and that little bit of extra volume, the all-new Big Diamond is the SUP to go for. With a width of 31 ½ to 32 inches, it is unbelievably stable. However, thinned out rails will still let it carve like a surfboard, and a rolled bottom with a slight V-design in the tail let it turn with ease, even in smaller, slower surf. An additional V-bottom feature in the nose, as well as a flatter rocker line, also allows it to be paddled very comfortably in flat water. Ride it with 3 fins for more stability or simply as a classic single longboard, one thing is for sure, the Big Diamond is one of the most fun SUP boards we ever developed.

TOURING 11’0”, 12´6, 14´0
The Touring is a great board for flatwater, open ocean and river SUPing. With a storage net in the nose and tail you can pack anything you need for your journey. A full EVA deck will give you great comfort while paddeling and allows you to move around on the board without loosing grip. The keel-shaped nose cuts through the water with superior speed and ease. Its flat middle section with extra width gives it great stability, and tucked-in rails maximize manoeuvrability. Additionally, when compared to a traditional raceboard, the Touring has a little bit more rocker, which enhances the board’s surfing performance by minimizing the risk of nose undercutting on swells.

THE NEW FREERACE 14´
The Freeracer is the best shape for part time racers, adventurers and down wind addicts . The new 2021 version has a narrower nose outline that pushes less water, especially when paddeling flat water. The rolled bottom shape in the middle of the board creates less drag while paddeling in a consistant speed, the chamfered rail allows the board to lift out of the water when you want to paddle faster. The deck has been droped to a semi dug-out in the standing area to add extra balance and stability, while the tail area remains flat on the deck with lower volume in the tail to add manoeuvrebility. The Freeracer has a grab handle option for racing, extra plugs to attach a storage net and is built only in our Carbon Ultra Light construction to give you the lightest board possible. With all its new desgn elements the all new Freeracer becomes a much faster board, yet remains an easy one to use as Race- and Touring board for the part time paddler that likes to travel fast.

Our new range of Soft Top SUPs are the most thoughtfully designed board construction method engineered specifically to meet the demands of SUP schools rental places and beginners in general. The unique colour designs – aside from giving these boards a classic look – were carefully developed to visually assist the SUP student to learn to ride more quickly: The blue-coloured areas provide foot placement references for standing while paddeling, riding and turning.
