Murder suspects arrested Four people were arrested this week in connection with the murder of an unidentified man who's body was found in an open field in the Ellisras area late Saturday afternoon. According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena it is believed that the two women and two men were involved in an altercation with the victim. He was subsequently attacked with stones and left to die. The suspects will appear in the Lephalale Magistrate court on 3 December.

A man suspected of raping a woman in the early hours of Sunday morning was arrested on Monday after Molalatau Security’s Hendrik Monyeki followed his trail for seven hours in the rain. The woman was reportedly attacked on the Thabazimbi road near the entrance of Molalatau Lodge. She described her attacker to Monyeki who then set off in search of the suspect. The woman was taken to Ellisras Hospital where a rape kit was taken. According to Molalatau's Andries Bester, Monyeki stayed on the trail despite the rain which made it difficult to stay on track. Eventually the trail led into a compound area where he found the suspect highly intoxicated. The suspect matched the description that was given to him including a scar on his head. His footprints also matched the ones found at the crime scene. The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital where he was positively identified by the victim as the rapist. Monday’s arrest is the eighth arrest for Monyeki in November. He has been instrumental in the arrest of suspects involved in cases ranging from burglary and theft, theft of solar panels and rape. “We are extremely proud of Hendrik in that he does not give up until he gets his suspect even if it means that he has to go on long after his shift has ended,” Bester told Northern News this week.
