THE GRADUATES of 2018 In August, we welcome all the Freshmen Class of 2018 with several activities to start their year at KMUTT. We got the “Oath taking Ceremony”, “Freshy Night 2018” and the “International Leadership Camp 2018” recently held in the Bangmod campus. We also welcome the Exchange students from all over the world at an event to gather all of our students to meet and greet at the “KMUTT International Night 2018”. That’s surely a memorable experience to start their year.

“I plan to join a program and travel in United States of America after I graduate.

I have 3 main reasons why I decided to join in this program. First, I want to grow up in my opinion, take responsibility, tolerance and lot more to improve myself.

Next, I’m a traveler. I really love to see and learn a new things, so this program can answer my questions. And lastly, I want to experience. For the meantime, I’m still looking for a job while I’m around.

My future plans, will learn new things at work that is by passionately working on weekdays (Monday - Friday ) and help with my family business on every Saturdays.”

Earth: This university offers full scholarship and has strong relationship with KMUTT. My research was relating to optical fiber sensor applications.

Q: What are the challenges you've encountered so far during your first few months in another country?

Earth: Of course, culture shock. I get a scholarship from Japanese organization to pursue my studies for Master's degree in Japan. Moreover, after graduation on my Master's degree, I plan to work in Japan and apply my skills and knowledge and share these experiences to people interested in the same field.”

Earth: Hanging out so called ‘nomikai’ with friends, and sometimes, bowling overnight.

Earth: If I pass the requirement of the language test (JLPT), I plan to work here for some years to gain experience.

Q: What do you miss in Bangkok?

Earth: Of course, Thai food … so yummy! Especially, kaprao (basil) with rice.

In August, we welcomed the Freshmen Class of 2018 with several activities to start their year at KMUTT. The “Oath taking Ceremony ”, “Freshy Night 2018” and the “International Leadership Camp 2018” events were recently held in the Bangmod campus.

We also welcomed the foreign exchange students at an event to gather all of our students to “meet and greet” at the “KMUTT International Night 2018”. That’s surely a memorable experience to start their year.

International Leadership Camp 2018 at KMUTT

This event was conducted by International Center for Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at the KMUTT Bangmod campus on August 1-4, 2018 with the theme of “Student Leadership Initiative”. Among the 32 participants were students from KMUTT and partner universities NKUST in Taiwan, UTM in Malaysia and SLU in the Philippines. The participants had done several leadership activities throughout the days they shared together. The first day was a Campus Tour around Bangmod Campus of KMUTT and icebreaking activities to make everyone familiar with each other. Participants were divided into five groups, and in each group, everyone cooperated with other members to complete every camp assignment, especially the innovative solution on global issues challenge.

The second day, was started by a very interesting activity on leadership by Dr. Ryan McCuiston continuing with a Thai language workshop where everyone had to learn Thai vocabularies and write their names in Thai. Also, we learned how to prepare Somtam (Thai Papaya Salad). Then, in the afternoon, each group was assigned to do an outdoor “reality” challenge activity at a local market by using Thai words they have learned, they had to buy three Thai desserts and decorating materials for making a Krathong (water lantern). Each group decorated their krathong in their own style and floated them on a pond that evening. On the third day, we went on a field trip to the Grand Palace (Wat Phra Kaew) and Wat Po our mission to take group photos with at one of the landmarks of famous tourist attractions. Later that evening, all participants attended the Cultural Night with spectacular dance performances in their national costumes. On the final day of the camp, the groups presented their innovative solution, received certificates and ended up with a meaningful farewell party.

Freshy Night 2018

Freshy Night 2018

An annual university event in search of the most outstanding boy and girl from the pool of freshmen. To join this search, each department has to choose the most outstanding boy and girl from their freshmen students. The chosen ones will be ‘Freshy Boy & Girl’ and become the representatives inuniversity events.

This year, the event was held on September 17, 2018. The event began with performances from the representatives of each department. The judges will announce the names of the ‘Freshy Boy & Girl’ after the performance from all candidates. The announcement of the winners of the ‘Freshy Boy & Girl 2018will be followed by a mini concert with performances featuring bands such as Image Suthita and Polycat Band.

The concert was organized to welcome all freshmen for becoming a part of KMUTT.

International Night 2018 The International Affairs Office together with the Students Affairs Office hosted the “KMUTT International Night 2018” on August 30 2018 from 17.00 - 19.30 at the first floor of Wisawa Wattana Building.

There were hund reds of students who came wearing their traditional “native” costumes and joined the international night festivities. The main objective of this event, “KMUTT International Night 2018”, was to increase the opportunity for students and staff to step out and explore international cultures in a friendly and casual environment. The international students organized some activities and games at their booths. There were various international booths such as Japanese food and Thai traditional games.

The cultural night did not stop there ; there were dance performances from our exchange students and Thai students. These International Night students’ activities served as a platform to cultivate and broaden the knowledge and cultural awareness of our students and staff.

KMUTT welcomes the freshmen in the Oath-taking Ceremony to King Mongkut (Rama IV) and the Ceremony of Necktie and Turquoise decorated with the Crown. On September 3, 2018, the ceremony of necktie and turquoise decorated with the crown (“Tiara”) and the ceremony took place. All first-year students attended to pay respect to the crown as the representatives of King Mongkut (Rama IV) and took an oath to be well-behaved students and demonstrate their dedication to study at KMUTT. In this event, the freshmen went on the stage to receive neckties for men and turquoises for women handed over by the president and vice presidents of the university. The president gave greeting remarks to all freshmen.

The intention of this ceremony was to greet and make all freshmen be proud of being KMUTT students and be well-behaved students of KMUTT during the time they are going to spend here until they graduate from KMUTT and become good citizens of Thailand.

Last summer 88 undergraduate students went abroad to do their internship training at Partner Universities. The students worked at a laboratory for about 2 months to do their research in their chosen field and trained at the university facilities to complete their projects. Here are some of the memorable internship experiences from our students.

In the summer of 2018, I went to Paris, France for an internship program. I was doing my internship at ESME Sudria Engineering School, which is at Montparnasse Campus in Paris.

The reason why I chose to go abroad for an internship is I’d like to challenge myself with the abilities that I have. As we know France is a developed country with a higher opportunity for students to study over there.

Paris is a beautiful and romantic city. The working culture usually is the same as like the other European countries.

Everyone does everything very quick, and French people are a very serious type and more detailed on every single task that they’re doing.

ESME is an engineering school that was established in 1905. This university was founded quite a long time ago and has five campuses all over France; that’s why I was convinced to pick this university. In ESME, they have tools and utilities that support my research study a lot so I can develop the project to the highest position that it could be. In my research project, I developed C language for a micro controller board to measure distance and temperature.

I learned many new things while staying abroad. I learned some basic French for survival. I learned how to make friends and how to cook a new dish by using French ingredients.

After my internship, I’ve changed my thought about the way of things are and feel brave to get out of my comfort zone.

In the future, I have a plan to study abroad and that’s for sure! I love adventure and discovery more and more. I think I’m going to do my Masters abroad.

Last summer, I went on my first ever solo trip to Europe!

After spending one month in ECE Paris for an Engineering Summer course, I decided to visit some of the fascinating cities in Europe. I went to six cities in total, Amsterdam, Brussels, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, and Munich. At first, I was very scared and nervous since I was traveling alone but find found out that people are very friendly and helpful.

My favorite city was Brussels. Brussels is the capital city of Belgium which is famous for its delicious Belgian chocolate.

Brussels is also the home of one of the world’s most disappointing tourists attractions ever, which is the Mannekin Pis, or widely known as the ‘Peeing Boy’. I love Brussels so much because there are so many street arts.

If you ever decide to visit Brussels, I recommend you to go for a stroll around the Grand Palace in the morning to avoid the crowds, and if you’re lucky, sometimes the Royal Palace is open for the public and you can check it out for free. One of the most interesting places in Brussels for me is the Marolles flea market.

The flea market sells all sorts of cool and beautiful antique stuff.

When I went there, I felt like I was in a Tintin movie!

All in all, solo travel is scary but exciting, but my trip was definitely an experience that I will never forget!

Summer Internship in Taiwan

by Natthawat Buaban, MEE Q: Why did you choose to go abroad for Internship?

A: It is an opportunity to find a new experience in working and learn how to cooperate with foreigners. It is a good chance to practice English and Chinese languages with a real native.

Q: How was the culture and lifestyle in the foreign country?

A: There’re a lot of things to learn. If we talk about lifestyle, Taiwanese are so similar to Thai. They’re enthusiastic and seriousabout their duty. Taiwanese food is part of their culture. Taiwan food has a light taste which is different from what I usually eat.

Q: What interested you to go to this university and what was your research project?

A: National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (aka Taiwan Tech) is famous for technology. That made me want to learn a new technique which could be useful to my project. My research project is a neck traction machine.

Q: What have you learned during and after your internship?

A: I learned how to design a plastic product from an injection molding machine with high quality and how to test the mechanical properties of plastic products.

Q: Will you go back and continue your studies abroad?

A: If I have an opportunity, I will go to study abroad.

My Outback Experience

The internship program at Curtin University is located in Cannington, Perth, Australia. I chose Curtin University because I heard that it’s the largest university in western Australia that, aside from its good environment, has a high ranking on research which relates to my project. Furthermore, the reason that I chose Curtin university was basically the location and its rich culture, and the diversity of people from various nationalities. So, I can say that they’re “multicultural”, — mixed culture and nationalities from other countries, whether Australian or a foreigner from another origin.

My eight weeks of research at the university was about "A study of impact of climate change on Harvey catchment and Nan River Basin". It it dealt with the study of the Nan River comparing with the Harvey River on how climate changed from the past and predicting the climate for future incidents through a simulation using an HBV model program. I think I obtained a lot from that experience and I wish to come back and continue in my senior project.

I must say that the “Aussies” are very friendly and kind.

This internship was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in university life. Obviously, I will come back to Australia.

My Internship Experience at Iwate University in Morioka, Japan

Japanese culture is considered as one of the most thoughtful and respectedcultures in the world. Also being in a different country is a great opportunity for making new friends and find new connections. Japan is the country that I have been to several times and I love all of its components.

For instance, I am addicted to Japanese food and passionate about its spectacular environment. Culture and lifestyle are different in another foreign country. In Japan, people nice, friendly and willing to help when I asked. When I arrived at Iwate University in Morioka, the lab students and professorswelcomed me with a warm party at their lab. The partywas very enjoyable and I also had a chance to talk with lab students and learn their culture and traditions. I chose Iwate University for my internship because I love the beautiful environment around the city. Moreover, I want to experience the real tradition in a Japanese environment so I decided to go to a rural area like Iwate Prefecture.

My lab works included research on a robotic arm called “Dobot Magician”. I got a huge opportunity by receiving the newest version of the robotic arm for my research. My final model of the robotic arm can detect an object in working area and automatically move to the object for gripping and placing an object in a conveyor.

In my view, I learned and experienced a lot of Japanese culture and lifestyle. Also, I can say that the environment, people and food are considered as perfection. If I have a chance, I will definitely continue my studies abroad.

Internship in NKUST, Taiwan

by Phatcharaphong Thongchim INC/Automation Engineering Since last June 2018, I have the chance from International Center for Engineering (ICE) of KMUTT to go to Taiwan for the internship program. This is my first time to go abroad. I’m very excited and quite afraid because I have no Chinese language skill and this is my first experience. However, when I arrived I saw the beautiful city of Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung is the industrial city of Taiwan. It has a lot of factories but it also has a lot of natural areas; both of them live together harmoniously.

I was more impressed when I arrived at National Kaohsiung University of Science Technology (NKUST). It was very large and beautiful. During my internship, I worked and spent hours in the Advance Mechatronics Laboratory under Professor Yung-Tien Liu. He was a good mentor, supportive and let me use a lot of materials and software to design the control system that was suitable with my major (Automation Engineering). In this laboratory, I was working on a control system design that used LabVIEW software and the my RIO controller to design the program and circuit with many kind of sensors and actuator. I need to understand the circuit and programs of each experiment. After that, I completed a report on my research project and presentedit to my professor at the end of my training.

My work became so easy because I had a lot of friends in the Laboratory; they would always help me out and explain to me about the hard parts that I couldn’t understand. Then after work, they would always bring some local food for me to try. The local food of Kaohsiung is a wonderful thing. It is hard to explain the taste, but in my opinion, I really love the local Taiwanese food! Most especially, everyone will surely enjoy their “milk tea” everyone whogoes to Taiwan will say Taiwan milk tea is very nice. I want to say that it is absolutely true.

Finally, I want to say thank you to everyone in Taiwan for the two- months internship and also to ICE that gave me a chance for this wonderful experience.

A summer study in South Korea

By Takdanai Jirawanichkul Computer Engineering I went to Chonnam National University for the International Summer Session short study program on 26 June to 23 July 2018 in Chonnam, South Korea. I chose two courses, Korean Listening & Speaking course and Introduction to Psychology. I think it is important to understand how to adapt to new societies. Since Thailand and Korea do not differ too much I can say that I adaptedto their environment and culture easily.

One obstacle that hindered me was the language because I could not speak English that well, but I tried to speak and practice English as often as I could. Another thing was the living expense abroad; considering it’s an Asian country, the commodities and food were more expensive compared to Thailand. I learned to budget and save money to help me stay until I returned to Thailand.

I want to thank my Korean buddy who took care of me and helped me a lot whenever I felt a bit worried. Overall, the experience was satisfying throughout the program because the program was well organized. I also had a great time at the cultural trip and the Korean calligraphy session and other enjoyable activities. I even tried wearing the Korean traditional “Hanbok” clothing. I am very glad to have joined the study program, and met new friends.

My research in Robotics at Shibaura Institute of Technology by Tausif Rahman Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering In the last summer, when I got off the plane at Narita Airport, right off the bat it felt different. Japan is very well-developed. One example is that the number of metro and train lines are countless and they travel a lot faster than the trains in Bangkok and New York City. It appeared to me that the Japanese are more serious and very hardworking. They follow rules very strictly. It was difficult at first to adapt to such an environment, but after a few days it made sense. When you follow a strict schedule and work hard you finish your work very quickly. Later in the afternoon, you can easily socialize with your colleagues and then go to karaoke bars later in the evening to sing your stresses away. Doing the internship in Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) was great. It is a private university near the city center. Labs and Equipment had all the best hardware and their software were all up to date; it was perfect for my research in Robotics. I was able to do work efficiently and nothing slowed me down. I had better understanding of the boards and the equipment required as well as how to code on their software. What I learned and understood will greatly help my senior project.

I was lucky enough to experience the summer fireworks festival; the whole sky just lit up. The timing of the internship was perfect. I also wore their famous Yukata, which is a single piece of cloth that covers your entire body and they cleverly put a small pocket inside the sleeves, so you can put your phone and money there. Their shrines and temples were very different than the shrines here in Thailand and the Buddhist shrines in Bangladesh.

The designs were very minimalistic and elegant.

My travels abroad help me grow and understand independence as I’m away from the care of my parents and the varying cultures help me understand the world as well as its people better. This is not so easy to learn and understand when you are touring for a few weeks. If I have such an opportunity to go to a different country again after graduation, I will probably take it.

KOC UNIVERSITY, ISTANBUL, TURKEY by Adchariya Bunma Koc University is located in Istanbul which is crowded with the people and culture of the Muslim and Ottoman empire.

Koc is near the Bosphorus Bridge which separates the European and Asian sides of Turkey, and it is in the European side. The gates from outside have got security to check people and if you don’t have a student card, it’s impossible to get inside.

Once you enter through the main gate, you will see all the nice buildings which are made from brown bricks.The facilities in Koc are completely perfect. They provide a swimming pool which makes it look like a holiday resort and you can swim or just lie down to relax on a deck chair. The gym is divided by each type of workout. They have basketball, ping pong, badminton and tennis courts. The hospital inside the university is open to students and staff of Koc University only. The canteen is located at the student center building anddivided into three floors. The food changes every day and every time. There’s also a supermarket which opens daily.My research paper involved doing an experiment on the topic of “Vertically Aligned WO3 Nanowire Arrays Grown Directly on Transparent Conducting Oxide Coated Glass: Synthesis and Photoelectrochemical Properties” and I worked in the thermal hydrolysis reactor section with a master degree student who was my best friend from the first to the last day :) After two weeks, I started to have friends. They were from Jordan, Ireland, Poland, Oman, Slovakia, Malta, Spain, and Scotland. I was the only Asian from Thailand. We hung out together everywhere in Istanbul and played sport, cooked and shared our food. I also let them try Thai food. It was really good to spend time with new friends. My internship was happier and more successful because of these guys.

International Students Leadership Camp 2018 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

During summer vacation, I was thinking it might be a great idea to do something meaningful instead of just having a normal vacation in my hometown. So, I made up my mind and applied for the NKUST International Student Leadership Camp 2018 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. ICE always provides a lot of information about summer camps and I chose Taiwan because it was considerably affordable and close. The camp was held for seven days, so I imagined the schedule to be tight.

In total, there were students from five countries: Taiwan, Japan, The Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. It was really bizarre for me, as I introduced myself to people, that even though I’m Indonesian, I was one of the representatives from KMUTT, Thailand.

We had a really tight schedule on both leadership classes and social activities. We attended debate class, management class, as well as volunteering at an elementary school. One of the culture shocks I experienced was that they have a nap time session for students until high school! Also, we had many fun activities exploring the night market (Taiwan’s street foods sure are tasty!), visiting Taiwan’s Indigenous Park, trying some Chinese calligraphy to bring fortune, painting paper umbrellas, and dancing together during the performance night. I really let myself go and be free during the camp. No hesitation, no awkwardness. It felt nice.

I have gained so many nice friends that I still keep in touch with until this moment! Even Cupid shot his arrows during the camp; there were heart breaks and also blossoming love. It was only a week, yet it left so many memories. I came home with the “The Best Debater” award, although one of our friends from KMUTT actually received almost all the awards in the camp.

Presently, I am studying in Thuyloi University, Hanoi, Vietnam for one semester as an exchange student.

When I first arrived here, I had a lot of culture shock due to the language barrier as it was hard to communicate with the Vietnamese people because I did not know their language.

However, people I have met such as my roommates and classmates as well as everyone in the university are all very friendly and helpful. They have been nice to us, they are taking care of us and cooking our meals, and they take us to travel around the city, including helping us learning the Vietnamese language. I have the impression that they are all kind and generous. About my class at Thuyloi University, I have learned many new things. The professors sometimes speak a bit of Vietnamese but they use English as the main language to teach students so I do not have to worry about misunderstanding. My life at the university is quite comfortable, and the university is also supportive and provided us free dormitory residence including discount for facilities. Moreover, there are a lot of beautiful places near the university, for instance, historical streets, night market, and museum, to learn about the Vietnamese culture.

I was amazed to learn about the culture of Vietnam such as sitting on a small piece of plastic in restaurants, crossing the road without using traffic lights, and sleeping using only a mat without mattresses. Despite the differences, I think the at the Moldex culture of internship Vietnam is nearly same asCoretech Thai culture Co.,Ltd. and this is so cool. Mechanical Department I think studying abroad is one of those experiences I started my internship at during Moldex3D, plastic that everyone should be able to training undertake theiratime in mold manufacturing company in Taiwan.

Their products are university and you will not have a single regret about it. mostly computer-aided engineering tools such as the Moldex3D R16, Moldex CADoctor and Molex3D eDesigner.

I was trained at the laboratory for Moldex3D simulation that does meshing, designed a mold and set up a suitable process condition for production parts. Then I also did the analysis of theresult for any defect of production andchecked the parameter of the process condition of production. So, I have to carefully analyze and examine the results.

At NTUST, I learned in a computational fluid dynamics laboratory and I cooperated with the precision laboratory to do injection molding experiments. I also learned how to remove and assemble a mold and the components, and how to control the injection machine in my experiment. After this, Igot to analyze the data and result with some reasonable outcome and finally did a presentationof the design model. In my opinion, life in Taiwan is comfortable with cheap accommodation and beautiful scenery. For me, Taiwanese food is my haven.

A Short Study in Paris

If we talk about Paris, most of you would think that Paris is a beautiful city with the Eiffel Tower as the city’s icon, as well as the center of world fashion, and actually it is. For education, Paris has many good universities to name. One of them is ECE Paris (École Centrale d'Electronique) which is located in Quai de Grenelle and one of the French private higher education institutions with a good reputation Each year, some KMUTT engineering students are selected to join the summer course program as a collaboration between KMUTT and ECE Paris. In the recent study trip in the Engineering program on 2-26 July 2018, there were nine selected KMUTT Engineering students who attended thesummer course program at ECE Paris.

There were five programs offered by ECE Paris: Augmented & Virtual Reality,Energy Efficiency Renewable Energy, Energy Transition on Perspective & Opportunities, Operating Systems, and Web Application Development. As for me, I took part in the Augmented andVirtual Reality (AR/VR) program. The reason is, AR/VR is still an emerging topic for the IT field and that interests me to learn about AR/VR in depth. From this program, I learned about the global views on AR/VR, introduction to sensors, and about developing VR applications combined with sensors.The schedule for this summer program was somewhat tight; it meant that we had to study most of the time from Monday until Friday, from morning until evening.

Apart from the course, ECE Paris provided us some cultural visits to enjoy our weekends at the Science Museum (Cité desSciences et de l’Industrie) and Fragonard’s Perfume Museum (Le Musée du Parfum Fragonard).

Life in Paris is somewhat convenient; all transportation systems are reliable and connected, such as the Métro (MRT), RER (commuter train), and city buses, at affordable prices. The French are mostly friendly and helpful, so do not hesitate to ask for assistance if you require any help. Some French phrases are required before you visit France because some peoplecannot speak English well. Do not worry, ECE Paris will give you a preparation package consisting of bits ofinformation on transportation and important places, a map of Paris, some interestingexhibitions and of course, the important French phrases before your departure.

This program is recommended for those who want to travel around Paris and study at thesame time.

“Volunteering in Indonesia” UNV

by Kunch Ringrod, CPE United Nation Volunteer or UNV is one of the organization in United Nation which gives an opportunity to other people expertise in specific skill to work in United Nation. There are many programmes in UNV and one of them is Universities Volunteer Internship program which gives a chance to University student only. The good news is that KMUTT is the first university in Thailand received the quota from UNV and open the program to all 3rd year engineering students up to the graduate level.

By the way, my name is Kunch Ringrod, a fourth year student in Computer engineering, KMUTT. I am Thailand’s first batch of UNV volunteer to do my internship in UNDP Pulse Lab in Jakarta, Indonesia from September 2018 until February 2019.

It's such a great opportunity for me to be at this program in another country. My research project is all about data engineering, network-administrator and a lot more.

My goal at this time is to learn new things as much as possible, make friends and connections, and of course, to learn about their culture while I am here, this will be my way to contribute from this experience to the upcoming batches of the next volunteers in UNV 2019.

UTM meets Navarat “May” Veerawongchai

I'm currently an exchange student at University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor, Malaysia. My first impression when I arrived in UTM was “What a big university!” Each building was quite far from the others and I couldn’t walk and go around the campus, so I decided to buy a new bike. UTM has a very natural environment, and you’ll see a lot of monkeys roaming around at the university.

Now, I have a lot of friends from local students and also exchange students from South Korea, France and Japan. When I have any problems, my friends always support and help me. I have the best local buddy in UTM. She's very nice. Westayed together like family. I call her "Mom". She always takes care of me including having our meals together, studies, activities and staying at a hostel. Food in UTM is different from Thailand. Everything you see is chicken-based, but the meals are very delicious.

I adjusted myself and even liked to eat Malay dishes. In my class, I study well and have good discussionsamong my classmates.

The professors always ask "Do you understand this topic?" because they want to make sure that the students understand what they’re teaching us. For me, this is the best university and I have a lot of impressions that I can't explain, but I’m keeping them in my heart.

Achievements Congratulations to “Sound Sense Team CPE, iCREATE 2018” The Sound Sense team composed of five KMUTT students from the department of Computer Engineering realized that the loss of hearing can affect human communication, but more importantly, impact the ability to prevent unforeseen emergencies and to recognize an important event that needs to be heard. In daily life, most warning signs are an audible alarm such as a fire alarm and vehicle’s horn. Most of the hearing-disabled get injured or die because they don’t notice or hear the alarm sound. We think this is one of the most important problems for people who have hearing disability and we can reduce the occurrence of this problem by creating the “SoundSense”.

SoundSense is a smart device designed to help people with hearing disability to be able to “feel” and “see” sound in a different way. SoundSense listens to ambient sounds and recognizes a signature of dangerous or important sounds in their daily life including a vehicle’s horn, ambulance’s siren, fire alarm, microwave beep, baby crying, alarm sounds from electronic devices and doorbell chimes. When a sound is detected, SoundSense will notify users by sending a notification to their smart devices through our application.

SoundSense uses a pre-trained classification model to recognize predefined types of ambient sound. Users can teach SoundSense to recognize some new personal sounds by recording that sound directly into the device. In this case, a template matching technique will be used to compare the similarity of the ambient sound to the recorded sounds.

The merit award prize was given at the iCREATE 2018, 12th International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology on technology category.

Interview with our Semester Exchange students Ysabel Rain Montalbo and Reiko Okuda At KMUTT, there are many opportunities for both Thai and foreign students for a possibility for connecting and bridging gaps through international programs such as student exchange and internship programs. This time, we had a chance to have a chat with our inbound exchange students, Ysabel Rain Montalbo from the Philippines and Reiko Okuda from Japan.

Both are majoring in the Chemical Engineering department.

They are very happy and fascinated about studying in Thailand.

During these passing weeks, Reiko and Ysabel have visited many places around Bangkok as well as the outskirt provinces.

They seem to be really satisfied with the education system here because of the fact that classes here are not too crowded and professors are easily approachable which makes things easier to get solved. They believe that Thai professors are extremely humble and friendly. Overall, it has been a great experience for Reiko and Ysabel since the day they arrived in KMUTT.

KMUTT Student Club KMUTT has several organizations and clubs where you can be involved and experience a variety of exciting and fun activities together with your new found friends. Why not join the student clubs or start a new one?

The student organizations have many interesting activities where you can connect with other students. Also, joining the clubs would help you to get to know about yourself, enhance your skills and see other opportunities that await you.

If you are interested, join one of the student clubs like Engineering Student Club, Industrial Education Student Club, Science Student Club, SIT and SoA+D Student Clubs. There are many other clubs to choose from academic to sport divisions are all very interesting. The fun way to boost your extracurricular activities is to join the Robot Club, Computer Club, Thai Music Club, Football Club and Cheer and Recreation Club.

If you are someone who is interested in sports, and love to watch, play or are enthusiastic about feeling the real experience about of rugby, KMUTT Rugby Club is right here for you.

Most people in the club are students who used to play rugby before enrolling at KMUTT, and there are also students who did not have the experience but desire to play rugby.

What is special in the KMUTT Rugby Club is that KMUTT rugby students who come from 2 campuses Bangmod and Bangkhuntian.

In addition, rugby is the sport that is the sign of the School of Architecture and Design (SoA+D) in KMUTT. That is the reason why half of the members in the club come from SoA+D from the Bangkhuntian campus.

There are no difficulties in joining the club, and no need for any pre-requisites or prior experience. You just need the desire to play, and you will have the chances to play! Club members will teach and give some tutorials for every new member. There are also lots of girls members in the club.

There is an event coming up! It is Freshy Touch Rugby.

Freshy Touch Rugby is an event for newbies to play rugby by having the least battling and impact, using only normal touching instead of striking opponents like in a real rule, to prevent injury. This event was established according to the KMUTT Student Union to promote and advertise rugby sport because there are few people who know about this sport and rugby is the a sport that does not have chance to be played easily. So, it is good to open up the chances for general students to try rugby.

KMUTT KMUTT Student Student Club Club

This club has been here for quite some time and most of the member students in this club are the Phet Pra Jom scholarship students who have skills in dancing.

Occasionally, we perform in events in the university such as important ceremonies, KMUTT anniversaries, retirement ceremonies, and international parties, and sometimes in outside events. Recently, we had a program where we invited the foreign students who wanted to learn Thai dancing.

This project was aimed to give an opportunity to students who want to try but have no clue what to do. There were Indonesian, Chinese, Cambodian, Burmese and Filipino students in this performance. We performed during the farewell party before these exchange students went back to their countries.

KMUTT Debate Society

Students from the Engineering department have created this club and the members are continuously getting better at debating. The club has gained much experience and its membership is even growing. Recently, our members joined the EU-TH National Intervarsity debate competition on July 31-August 4, 2018 held in MUIC (Mahidol University International College) and KMUTT students (3 teams) did their best and eventually reached the semifinals. It was an achievement for our students since there are many schools joining this event every year.

“At the competition, there are a lot of high school and university teams. Some of them are really good at debating and one of them is well- known as a debating school.

The motions and themes in the debate are really tough, even some of them we already know before the competition day, but mostly, they are unseen—we will never know until the competition day.

Also, the competitors—they are very clever, excellent and well-prepared to debate. However, I know that debating is not just about being smart. To win a debate, you’ll have to convince the judges using words and strategies.

We didn’t win this championship but we did break into the quarter final round in the name of KMUTT1 and KMUTT3. However, we did gain lots of experience from this competition.

I think we might need some more time and practice; I am pretty sure that someday we might break into the semifinal round or even further. University Life @Bangmod Campus, New Challenges, New Adventure. . .

"Why did you choose to study at KMUTT?" When I was a little kid I always wanted to explore the world.

Coming to Thailand for studying at KMUTT is one of my missions in life, to study abroad and experience different way of life. Also, I believe “to put me out of my comfort zone makes me grow to the level unknown before”. These are one of those many reasons why I choose to study abroad.

The Thai culture is very different from where I come from. The language barrier is real and some how hard to get over. This has become my greatest challenge adjusting myself to live in another country. From the 7-Eleven cashier that would ask me whether I want a plastic bag, to taxi driver who reject me as his passenger because he doesn't know KMUTT. The language barrier does affect my life, but exciting and new to me.

After my Chemical Engineering degree at KMUTT. I plan to pursue Master studies and even more get my doctorate degree to become a researcher. I don’t have a solid plan about it but I want to invent on something cooler and hopefully this would make the world a little bit better.

So many opportunities at this university waiting for me that is to expand my knowledge, preparing myself to pursue my dreams as a cool researcher. Faculty members of the university are so helpful and willing to help the students to gain more knowledge. Somehow studying engineering in this university isn’t as stressful as I thought engineering will be. Thanks to another Thai culture that values life should be fun and relax.

Also, the university gave me many opportunities to know different cultures and friends, and gave me a chance to experience the life by studying abroad. All those experiences makes me a better man.

Quifan Liu/INC I have only been in Thailand for 2 months, but I already fell in love with the culture here. People are really kind, helpful and respectful. Moreover, the food is incredibly delicious, you can find plenty of various dishes as good as each other. I have also been to Ayutthaya to visit temples which was one of my best memory here.

Paul Letourneau/CPE/France People and culture in Thaïland are really different than in France, it was a great gap when we arrived here, for example, the food : french people do great with food, but with the same ingredients, the thai cook will be really different, it's a bit disappointing at first like everything else, but once you are used to it, it's great!

Erwan Michardiere CPE/France I decided to come and make one semester of study in Automation Engineering at KMUTT. I really enjoy the life in Thailand, it is very different from French and european lifestyle. I spend a lot of time travelling because I want enjoy every moment of this incredible experience. I will definitely come back again and again to Thailand and South East Asia after the end of my semester.

Here at the 5 simple ways to Protect Your Skin beyond Sunscreen Avoid exposure under the sun for hours. The sun is strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Seek some shades at the campus. If you can't avoid the sun during peak hours, find a spot in the shade at the Learning Garden, under the trees or roof and pathways or halls when walking around the campus.

Cover Up. Use protective clothings and a wide-brimmed hat. Clothing is the first barrier between UV rays and your skin expose to direct heat.

Wear Sunglasses Use umbrella often times Don't Use Tanning Beds. A tanning bed is a device that emits ultraviolet radiation to give people a tan (make their skin darker). Like the sun, a tanning bed can also cause a sunburn.

We advise you take the KMUTT e-BUS (EV Hop-off-Hop-on) shuttle service instead of walking around the campus.
