Social responsibility projects
Our school supports a number of social responsibility projects. We spend one day a year working to collect money for education work and scholarships for poor high school-level students in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Every year two South African students are given a five-year scholarship, and we also sponsor two township schools on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg – Ashdown Upper Primary and Sinathing Primary. The school also arranges a fair for the local and national organizations that need volunteers to encourage our students to contribute. Sports events
Throughout the school year, we have a number of afterschool sports events and competitions organised by students and teachers. At the beginning of the school year the whole school participates in an ‘alternative sports’ contest where team building is in focus. During the school year classes can compete in more traditional sports after school. Study café
We also offer a study café Monday-Thursday after school. Students go there to do homework and teachers are on hand to help. Some students also go there to socialize while getting their homework done. Science academy
Our science academy offers all students who have a particular interest in science the opportunity to meet up once a week to do experiments and discuss science. Fun and parties
Last, but not least, we also have school parties! Four Fridays a year the school arranges a party, which is only open to the school’s students. In November every year we celebrate the school’s birthday and invite former students to join in the festivities. At this party the graduates dress up and perform a traditional dance (Lanciers). Students also run an after-school Friday café on a regular basis – a place to catch up with friends, chat and relax.
