Hello!
My name is Alex Skurka and I am the Fall 2025 president of Scale and Coin. On behalf of our organization, I am excited to welcome you to our fall recruitment cycle!
When I first came to Carolina, I was completely alone. As an out-of-state student I had no support network, no community, and was starting from square one. For me, Scale was the family I needed. My first semester on campus was one of the most challenging learning to balance a collegiate workload, plan my academic path, and build meaningful connections. Scale and Coin was my key to finding success professionally and socially.
Recruitment can be daunting; I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intimidated going to that first event on the quad. However, I quickly learned to love talking to each brother, hearing their experiences, and finding the differences in everyone ’ s journey to the organization.
One of the things I admire most about our process is that we aren’t looking for stats, company names, or resume points; we are looking for genuine, ambitious, and driven people who are passionate in their respective fields Scale is full of just as many world travelers, talented musicians, and competitive athletes as we are bankers, consultants, and analysts. This organization has taught me to embrace my niche interests and turn them into a career rather than push them to the background in search of molding myself into “the perfect applicant”.
Moreover, Scale’s mentorship and alumni network have completely transformed my corporate aptitude. The support this community provides is without a doubt what led me to my first interview, internship, and workplace connection. Having the privilege as an underclassman to utilize the wealth of knowledge in our brotherhood and the opportunity as an upperclassman to return that support to younger classes is the most fulfilling aspect of what we do.
Joining a community of people who quickly became my best friends on campus allowed me to thrive socially, professionally, and academically at UNC. Scale has undoubtedly been the most pivotal part of my collegiate career and I cannot recommend it enough.

PRESIDENT

Theofanis Yianas - Class of 2027
“Scale is a one-stop shop for everything you need to be successful as a college student. You should join Scale because it gives undergrads exposure to industries and prepares you professionally. But what makes Scale truly special is what comes next: the opportunity to grow with a group of individuals from all walks of life, learn from upperclassmen and alumni, and tap into a network of hundreds that are at your disposal throughout college and beyond. Scale was my first step in receiving my internship, but more importantly, it gave me the confidence, mentorship, and friendships that have shaped every step since.”

“Joining Scale and Coin was the best decision that I made my freshman year at UNC. Not only did I gain confidence in my professional and academic abilities but I found people who I can call some of my best friends. Everyone has different interests and abilities which has given me the opportunity to explore my own interests, knowing that I will always have people who can help me grow. I am so thankful that I get to be a part of such an amazing community!”
Ayan Suthar - Class of 2028
“I joined Scale to surround myself with ambitious and like-minded people who make UNC feel like home. Whether it’s late-night hangs or spontaneous adventures, there’s always someone to make memories with. The friendships I’ve made here are some of the most meaningful in my college experience On top of that, having a strong professional network has been invaluable in helping me stay work toward my goals. From resume reviews to mock interviews and career advice, I’ve always had people in my corner pushing me to be my best. Scale constantly motivates me to think bigger, aim higher, and keep growing I genuinely can’t imagine my college experience without it.”

“I joined Scale after returning from Korea through the Global Launch program because I wanted to meet new people and explore what UNC had to offer What I found in Scale went far beyond my expectations On the professional side, Scale has introduced me to a strong network of people who genuinely want to see you succeed. It’s a community where people are always willing to help, creating a culture that pushes you to grow professionally Personally, Scale gave me a sense of belonging during a time when everything felt new One of my favorite things is how those relationships extend beyond UNC no matter what city you ’ re in, there’s almost always a Scale brother you can reach out to!@

We recruit students that embody values important to the four pillars that are the foundation to Scale and Coin

Scale and Coin’s predominant goal is to prepare young students to be adequately qualified and prepared for a career in business, and to assist them in developing both professionally and personally. The organization takes a new training class each semester who undergo a thorough multiweek professional development training program, preparing members for work in any industry, with mentorship from upperclassmen.
Through weekly professional development workshops based on different aspects of business, trainees complete deliverables to present at brotherhood meetings, receiving constructive criticism and feedback from members.
Additionally, brothers have claimed top prizes at case competitions such as the Deloitte Case Competition and nationally-acclaimed financial challenges, like the Fed Challenge. With an established alumni network across many industries, members receive immense support when recruiting for both internships and full-time positions.

Scale and Coin places a special emphasis on service in and around the Triangle community, as the organization hopes to shape brothers into not just better business leaders, but better individuals as a whole. Scale and Coin has longstanding relationships with organizations such as Reading Partners and the Durham Literacy Center, and has partnered with Hope Gardens NC, UNC Hackathon, UNC Children's Hospital, and more for engaging service events. Members of Scale also partake in monthly highway cleanups on the Scale and Coin sponsored highway.

While Scale and Coin is a professional organization, brotherhood is one of the most important tenets. Brothers form especially close bonds with members of their training class, in addition to the social network gained through the brotherhood as a whole. Scale and Coin provides a platform for multiple social events each semester, including brotherhood retreats, group dinners, formal events, and events with other campus and community organizations.
