Oasis

Team - Ko, Chun Hin

Type - Idea

Role - Concept Space status - completed

" Oasis" is a 3x3x3m conceptual space that uses imagery to convey the brand's values and philosophy.

It connects urban life to a desert, with the exhibition space as an oasis symbolizing growth amidst adversity. Through light and shadow on plants, it evokes a longing for nature in city dwellers, offering solace in concrete surroundings.

Design Concept

Design create a contrast-rich, visually impactful space by blending natural greenery with concrete textures in an urban setting.

Utilize a courtyard to bring sunlight indoors, nurturing plant life. Mimic the imposing structures of modern urban skyscrapers on the left and right facades, tilting them to create geometric shapes. Open the ceiling with skylights for sunlight to nourish struggling plants, symbolizing resilience.

Use strategically placed grey mirrors to enhance spatial depth without detracting from the focal points.

Blessing

Year - 2023

Team - Ko, Chun Hin / Xian, Wen Fung

Type - Idea

Role - Concept Design / Furniture Design

status - completed

"Blessing" is a piece of public furniture designed to convey blessings to couples. Created for the Daxi Wood Furniture Competition, it aims to promote Daxi culture.

Daxi people coexist with water, rising and thriving because of it. Just as water nurtures Daxi's prosperity, it also nurtures relationships, akin to how a mother cares for her children.

Design Metaphor

The design integrates the culture of Daxi's waters with wedding blessings. It metaphorically likens the river to the common mother of Daxi's people. The furniture serves as a gift of blessing, wishing that couples who use it will stay together and keep their love enduring.

The dowry items given by the bride's family to the newlywed bride typically consist of firewood, fabrics, and gold items, symbolizing the family's wishes for her new life. The design aims to express symbolic meanings through materials and forms:

River water - enduring companionship

Firewood - warmth and comfort

Fabrics - connection

Metal - strength and stability

Material Details

In terms of material details, the fabric part utilizes knotting techniques, specifically the love knot, symbolizing blessings for the couple to "tie the knot" and form a strong bond of affection.

The seat is composed of five curved wooden strips, their streamlined forms symbolizing the continuous flow of a river. The gaps between the wooden strips highlight the idea of a gentle and continuous flow of water.

Additionally, at the joints of three curved stainless steel pipes, connectors are added to ensure a clean finish and enhance the aesthetic appeal.

Resonance

Year - 2023

Team - Ko, Chun Hin / Chen, Zhong Yang

Type - Idea

Role - Public Space / Concept Design status - completed

"Resonance" is my graduation project, I hope to stir emotional ripples in this emotionally numb modern society, awakening a sense of emotional resonance among people.

Design aims to evoke emotions through bodily movements, encouraging people to sway and interact with media. Using form, color, and sound feedback, it fosters communication and emotional resonance among individuals.

Ambiance - Sadness + Fury

Emotion Mixture

Using body recognition technology to identify people's gestures within the space, and then feeding back these gestures' corresponding emotions in the form of colors and sounds onto an emotional installation sculpture. The blended colors of various emotions create a vibrant display of lights in the space.

Through this interactive approach, it encourages collaborative creation among people, fostering emotional resonance during the cooperative process.
