Poul Henningsen Poul Henningsen - PH - 1894-1967 Architect and designer. Poul Henningsen’s been known to transmit the soft glow of candlelight and recreate it in electric lights. Poul Henningsen grew up in the glow of kerosene lamps. This cozy and soft light gave Poul inspiration for his lifelong work with experimenting electric light trying to achieve perfect electric harmony. His most valuable invention was the classic PH lamp (designed in 1926); this was a simple lamp, designed on the principle of a reflecting multi-shade system, based on a logarithmic spiral, the light source focal point placed in the spiral centre. The pendant sends a diffused and glare-free light. The design created quite simply an economic foundation for his further work, as his countless variations of lamps, PH 5-lamp (1958), PH-piano (1931), Artichoke (1958).
