Strategic Acons and Ideas for 2024-2025

Student Board of Directors Program:

Student Board of Directors Program: Each annual meeting, NLGI could welcome a student/or student(s) from a university working on a project involving grease to participate in a Student Board of Directors program. Could include the Grant Recipients/universities.

Program Goals: The Student Board of Directors program could teach about current grease technology, evolving trends, test equipment, regulatory issues, the market, etc.

Program Schedule: At the NLGI Annual Meeting, Students as a group could attend selected talks or courses, the grease survey report, all social events, a student board of directors meeting facilitated by a board member for us to get their thoughts on student involvement in NLGI, etc. We could also have a session for them to give a short series of student presentations on their academic grease work.

Application Process: The student could be recommended by their professor and send a short summary of their work involving grease, etc. Grant Recipients could recommend students to attend as well.

• This would be similar to a Student Advisory council. It is a way to become a part of society and put leadership skills at the forefront.

• It’s a great way to expose them to the industry and how things work.

• It could possibly evolve into a ‘student chapter’ that brings forth current information to the board and industry.

• Who would pay? NLGI would need to fund their travel as students will only travel to an annual meeting if the trip is paid for by their professor or NLGI. A budget for this could be similar to what is already allocated for the Research Grant recipient, runner-up and student guests to travel to the Annual Conference- Ask Crystal to weigh in.

• Looking at a full launch for the 2025 meeting but could incorporate some of the program components with the students from the research grants recipients that will attend the 2024 meeting.

• What type of access could they have to the BOD meetings? Could they also sit in on Technical/Educational Committee meetings?

• Chad mentioned putting together a rough estimate and proposal for the EC. Based off response, set up a committee meeting to move forward.

STLE/NLGI Opportunities:

• Consider more of a presence at STLE’s annual May and Fall conferences, while not overstepping boundaries. Consider an updated presentation on the Research Grants program or another topic.

• The Intro to Grease Course- Engage more with the student poster sessions, with the intent of exposing them to the NLGI. The grease course instructors could be helpful with selecting some of the poster sessions that could play into grease This could pose as an opportunity for that student to potentially present their poster or write a paper for NLGI. It could be a good way to take advantage of our time there in May.

• We need to find a way to approach students at STLE strategically – Chad will speak with the EC and propose how we might be able to engage with them.

Hands On Training- Student Component:

• Continue to look into the potential of student participation during the Hands-on Training in 2024.

• Look into local Universities and contacts that we may have in the area that the Hands-on Training is being held, and potentially offer them an option to participate in the program.

• Offer a ‘webinar’ with Hands on Training content to expose to students/universities.
