New Shorewood Students 4K - 12: Fall Registration Now Open Fall registration for the 2022-23 school year has begun for all resident families of a NEW student. The Shorewood School District encourages you to register your student(s) as soon as possible to help the schools balance class sizes and provide appropriate staffing.

Whether you already have another child currently enrolled in a Shorewood Public School or if you are NEW to the District, instructions for how to register can be found at: shorewood.k12.wi.us/apps/pages/newenrollment.

Please be sure to choose registration year 2022-2023 when completing the online form.

You will be asked to: 1) Fill out your household’s demographic data, emergency contacts, and general health information.

2) Upload two documents to prove Shorewood residency.

3) Upload your child’s birth certificate or passport (for a child born outside the U.S., a passport is required) Currently enrolled Shorewood students will have annual registration for fall as usual, later in the year. Registration will be online again (as it was last summer); watch for details coming later this spring.

The Shorewood Community Fitness Center offers members a complete line of strength machines, cardiovascular machines, and free weights. We also have some new treadmills, a new squat rack and reverse hyper/GHD combination bench. Membership eligibility begins at Grade 7.

Summer Special

During June, July, or August you can purchase a one-month adult single membership for only $40 or buy all three for $110. This special cannot be added to an existing membership.

Reimbursement Programs

If you have a qualifying insurance plan you will receive a free membership to the Fitness Center. We have multiple reimbursement programs! Whether it’s Active&Fit, Froedert Health, Renew Active, Silver&Fit, or Silver Sneakers, there are plenty of ways to save with us. Stop in to see if you are eligible!

Personal Training How was your latest doctor’s visit? Looking for accountability, someone fun to workout with, or a structured program? Get a free consultation with one of our personal trainers and see how we can work together on your wellness plan! Stop in to the Fitness Center to find out how to get started.

Student Membership High School students can purchase a membership to the Fitness Center for only $100 for residents and $150 for non-residents. To receive a membership for 7th or 8th graders, orientation is required. The cost of the orientation and membership is $100 for residents and $150 for non-residents (see page 11). The membership coincides with the school year, beginning on July 1st and ending on June 30th regardless of the date you sign up.

Teen Fitness Camp Grade 7 - 9

During the pandemic we were able to upgrade our HVAC system to incorporate UVC Lighting and Bipolar Ionization.

We will be hosting a camp to instruct teens on safe and proper techniques to working out. It will be geared towards athletes, but all fitness levels are welcomed.

During this camp we will challenge the participants with plyometrics, circuits, agility work, and cardio. Each day will consist of different types of workouts to introduce them to several types of exercise. Afterwards they will have a base knowledge of what to do when he or she goes to workout. Participants that attend at least seven of the sessions will be given a free Fitness Center membership for the 2022-2023 school year. Class information can be found on pages 24.

Be our Guest - Senior Citizen Pass Shorewood Residents, 60+

The Shorewood School District would like to make available a Senior Citizen Pass to those individuals living in Shorewood who have reached the age of 60 years. The purpose of the pass is to say “Thank You” to our Senior Citizens who have given such fine support to our schools. This pass entitles the holder and companion to be admitted, without charge to the following School District activities: All Athletic Events, (Except WIAA Tournament Games), Drama Junior Productions, Band and Orchestra Performances, Dramatic Productions (Except Spring Musical and AFS Showcase).

Shorewood Community Gardens - 2022

The Shorewood School District is providing the opportunity to rent a community garden plot for the 2022 growing season. Availability is mid-April through mid-November, 2022. Plots are 4’ x 10’ raised beds. Gardeners are responsible for bringing their own tools, plants, seeds and soil amendments. Water will be available on site.

No chemical pesticides or fertilizers are to be used in the gardens. Only one plot per household is allowed.

Men’s Adult Softball Leagues Our Adult Softball leagues will tentatively begin the week of April 18th. All games will be played at the SHS Diamond. Softball leagues will be wood bat only leagues. A minimum of four teams for each division is required. Packets with league information are available upon request. Shorewood First Ride & Bike Rodeo

This year, we are offering two bike events on the same morning! Join us for a fun day of bicycle education! Brought to you by the Shorewood Recreation Department, Pinnacle Bike Shop, North Shore Health Department, North Shore Fire Rescue, and the Shorewood Police Department. We will also have helmet fittings. The event is free for Shorewood Residents, but please register ahead of time so we know how many people to expect.

Too young to work? Too old to be a participant? Come apply to be a teen volunteer with the Shorewood Recreation Department. Teen volunteers are the backbone of our programs. It allows you to gain useful on-the-job experience and offers the ability to create meaningful connections with the Recreation Department team. Teen volunteer applications can be picked up in the Shorewood Recreation office located on the 1st floor of the Shorewood High School Administration Building in room 120, or you can find a digital copy located on the Shorewood School District Website under the volunteer section of the Recreation tab. Applications will be reviewed by the Recreation Supervisor overseeing your area of interest.

Students can become eligible to use the Shorewood Community Fitness Center without the supervision of an adult by completing this class. During the session(s) with a personal trainer, the student will learn proper techniques and safety when using equipment and etiquette rules pertaining to the use of the Fitness Center. If the student can demonstrate required knowledge and skills at the end of the session(s), the student will be able to work out without the supervision of an adult. SIS Athletics

The purpose of the Shorewood School District’s youth sports programs is to guide each participant, boys and girls, through an organized program that will develop the fundamentals of each sport. Sports programs are open to any student who lives in the Village of Shorewood. Whatever sport your child chooses, they will be taught the fundamentals of the sport.

Skill development will be stressed throughout the season and participants will receive a basic understanding of rules, sportsmanship and teamwork by the end of the season. Bright Beginnings Preschool focuses on the individual child and provides an educational environment that stimulates and nurtures each child’s unique growth potential. We provide numerous exciting and engaging thematic units throughout the year, allowing your child to freely explore and grow in important skill development areas, including: large and fine motor skills, language and literacy, science and math, art and music. Your child’s social and emotional development is of prime importance. At Bright Beginnings, we help each child grow in his or her feelings of self-worth, self-confidence, respect, appreciation of others, love of learning and of school. Our curriculum reflects the most current understanding regarding child development and early education, and embraces Shorewood School District curriculum goals. Parents are strongly encouraged to register for just one session. Monday/Wednesday/Friday curriculum is repeated on Tuesday/Thursday.

Bright Beginnings will follow the school year calendar for the 2022 - 2023 school year. When the elementary schools do not have school, Bright Beginnings will not be held.

PRESCHOOL TOILETING GUIDELINES: All children are to be completely toilet trained before the first day of school. If your child is not completely toilet trained, you will be required to be present in the classroom and assist your child with toileting needs. Teachers and volunteers will assist children with buttons or snaps on clothing as necessary. Independence and reinforcement of self-help skills will be encouraged by the teachers.

2022 - 2023 Tuition Payments: A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required at the time of registration to reserve a spot for your child. Receive a $100 discount if tuition is paid in full at registration. All balances must be paid in full by August 1, 2022. Online registration is available, online fee will reflect the $100 discount (payment plans cannot be established online). No refunds or credit will be given for this program. Shorewood Recreation would like to invite you to come and join us for a preview of Camp Shorewood! During this week, we will be showcasing some of the games that we will be playing over the summer, going bowling and swimming at Shorewood High School. This program is geared to help families bridge the gap between the end of the school year and the start of summer programming. Please pack daily a lunch, snacks, water bottle, swimming suit, and towel. Comfortable shoes for walking and play. If your child is enrolled in other Recreation programs, we will ensure that they will make it safely to their respected classes.

Grades entering 4K - 6 (Students must be at least 4 years old by March 31, 2022 to participate)

Camp Shorewood starts June 20, do you need coverage the week before?

If your child has an IEP or 504 Plan through the Shorewood School District, please contact the Shorewood Recreation Department at (414) 963-6913 x 4 before the start of the program to coordinate services as required by State and Federal laws.

If your child requires any special assistance, accommodations or has any special needs that we should be aware of, please let the Recreation Department know when registering. We want to provide your child with a fun, successful and safe summer in our programs.

Come play this summer at Camp Shorewood! Whether the kids are outside, inside, swimming, bowling, or going on field trips, we have it all! We would love to have your child join us for a daily adventure in the Shorewood and Milwaukee area.

On Fridays, we have planned field trips, we will return to Atwater in time for the 4:00 pm pick-up. We encourage participants to sign up for other morning recreation programs, our staff will walk them to and from the class. We are UNABLE to escort your child to and from afternoon programs due to the staffing needs that this service would require. All transportation arrangements for afternoon classes must be made on the parent/guardian’s part. There will be a pickup time from 12:00 - 12:30 pm for those who choose not to stay for the whole day. However, please note that the fee reflects an all day, weekly registration. Please send your child with a snack, water bottle, lunch, swimsuit, and towel every day for group guided swim with an instructor, which is included in the fee. If you want your child to wear sunscreen, please send along spray sunscreen only.

The Shorewood Recreation Department is excited to announce a new swim lesson program “STARFISH”. Starfish swimming is a nationally recognized swim instruction curriculum developed by the Starfish Aquatics Institute (SAI). STARFISH uses innovative and effective teaching methods that allows easy transition from one class to the next and enables instructors to have the flexibility to teach based on the students’ abilities. No more trying to find the right level that works best for multiple family members. Sibling’s lessons can be at the same time, (provided you enrolled them in the same class time)! Children will be tested into appropriate classes on the first day of instruction. You will be able to monitor your child’s progress online. Please check our website this spring for a more comprehensive explanation of our new program. We appreciate your patience as we navigate these new waters!

Known as the Zumba® “pool party,” Aqua Zumba® gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba® shallow water class. Kick up the workout with this class. Pool hours are subject to change. Updates will be posted on the VHE Pool bulletin board, the VHE Pool information line at (414) 963-6913 x 1, and on the website at www.shorewoodschools.org.

Everyone must wear appropriate swimming attire in the pool.

No swim suits, caps, or towels are issued at any of the community swims.

Before entering the pool, it is mandatory to shower.

Patrons six years of age and older are expected to use the gender-appropriate locker room or family changing area.

Our family changing area can be used by parent/child or assistance with another adult. This area is located next to the women’s locker room. There are lockers in this room, locks are strongly recommended.

Flotation devices are prohibited.

The Recreation Department is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles. Bring your own lock for a locker. Overnight storage is not permitted.

Sauna and whirlpool (adults only) will be open during adult and lap swims.

All ages - youth ages 7 and under must be accompanied in the water by an adult (ratio of one adult to every 8 children). Children 6 and under must be within one arm’s length of an adult while in the water (ratio of one adult to every 4 children).

Infants and toddlers must wear swim diapers in the pool. No disposable or cloth diapers allowed.

We have an adaptive chair for shallow water entrance.

The Shorewood School District Facility Services Department makes every attempt to maintain water and air temperature according to the standards set by the State of Wisconsin. Any fluctuation in the temperature will be corrected as soon as possible.

Pool temperature is set between 78 - 81 degrees and the whirlpool temperature is between 100 - 104. If you have any concerns about our pool facilities, please contact the District’s Facility and Operations Department at (414) 963-6918.

You must exit the locker room within 20 minutes after Community Swim ends.

ACT Workshop, Virtual In this ACT workshop students will learn how to identify the types of questions they will see on the four multiple-choice sections of the ACT test as well as a variety of strategies to attack the various questions. The instructor has designed this workshop based on 27 years of successfully helping students prepare for the ACT. Students will need to purchase a copy of The Official ACT Prep Guide 2022-2023 prior to the first session. Many students order the book from Amazon or purchase it at a local bookstore. Students will also need a blank spiral notebook for each session.

Page 24 Instructor: Allyson Manthey Arthritis In Balance with Exercise & Stretch Do you have arthritis, osteoporosis, or poor balance? This peer supportive class uses gentle movements and activities designed to increase mobility, range of motion, build strength and improve balance. We will show you low impact exercises in a non-competitive setting. Be prepared to start feeling better, gain energy and have the ability to accomplish daily tasks with ease.

Page 7, 9 Instructor: Jan Mahlberg, Certified Exercise Instructor Babysitting, American Red Cross This is an ideal course for current and future babysitters, teaching them the best way to keep children safe while in their care.

Feeding, diapering, safety, professionalism, first-aid, leadership and safe play are some of the topics that will be covered. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes, and bring a pencil, water bottle and a lunch. Precourse work will be required. Participants must attend the entire time that the class meets. We are unable to give

a credit five business days before the start of the class.

Badminton players will be paired with others that have a compatible skill level and play games weekly. Due to the nature of this class, it is recommended that participants play at an intermediate to advanced level. Rackets will be furnished or you may bring your own. Shuttlecocks will be provided. Provide your email address to receive information regarding changes in the schedule.

The core of this class involves gross motor skill development and coordination incorporated with social skill and learning to cooperate in a group setting. Players will be drafted onto teams and develop over the summer. There will be no coaches. Teams will be assigned a GM to help with guidance, motivation, and substitutions. Players will receive a weekly schedule that includes; skills combine, scheduled games, and playoffs/championship.

Page 25, 26 Instructor: Gary Brueggemann Bottle Cap Mosaic Children will create an art project exploding with color made from an everyday object that is transformed with the help of some imagination and artful creativity. The session aims to inspire ideas of upcycling, and what else we can do in our everyday lives to contribute to the conversation on conservation.

Page 25 Instructor: Anna Grosch Brain Games If you want to exercise your brain “muscles” this program will provide plenty of opportunities through origami paper folding, solving mathematical puzzles, making geometric figures out of toothpicks and using plane geometry to make artistic designs.

Page 17, 21 Instructor: Gina Raicu Brewers Game Co-Op Come watch the Brewers take on the Minnesota Twins. Game time is 1:10 pm. Bus will load at 10:45 am at the Range Line Community Center Parking lot. Bus leaves Range line at 11:00 am and will return approximately at 4:30 pm. Fee includes ticket and bus.

Deadline for tickets is June 10th. No refunds will be issued after this date. Register early! Anyone under the age of 16 must have adult supervision accompany them. Low registration can result in cancellation.

Page 9 Instructor: Mequon Thiensville Recreation Staff Bug Art Have fun learning about and making all different types of bugs in this class. We will use paper mache, paint, oil pastels and more, where we will do something different every day!

Cardboard Boat Building An appliance box, some teamwork and lots of duct tape work well together to create a sea-worthy vessel. On the last day of class we will strap on our life jackets and head to the pool to see who’s boat floats or sinks. Suggested items to save and bring to class include plastic jugs or bottles. No styrofoam, tarps, plastic sheets or wood will be allowed. Parents are welcome to join us on the last day of class to watch the boat launch in the VHE Pool.

Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children’s motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach.

Page 28 Instructor: Chess Scholars Staff Vendor Program Comic Book Art Participants will create their own comic book! Classes will focus on character development, storytelling and sequential drawing.

Various comic book styles will be introduced ranging from newspaper comic strips, American super heroes and anime. Participants are encouraged to bring their own drawing tools (pencils, erasers), however supplies will be provided! Paper and book making materials included.

Page 27 Instructor: Gina Nabong Conditioning Boot Camp This class uses the outdoor fitness equipment and Shorewood High School track and field for a full body workout. Participants will use the equipment, perform body weight exercises, and high intensity cardio intervals during a 45 minute workout. Bring a water bottle. As this is an outdoor class, dress appropriately. If the weather prohibits outdoor exercise, the class will be held indoors in the SHS North Gym. Page 7, 9 Instructor: Renee Scherck-Meyer, Certified AFAA Personal Trainer Coach-Pitch Baseball Program, Sluggers Coach Pitch games will be played on Saturday at noon or 1 pm beginning June 4 and will end July 23. Practices will be arranged by volunteer coaches and will begin the week of May 16 between 5:30 - 7:30 pm at Lake Bluff or Atwater Diamonds. Parents who coach will have their child on their team. We will accept a maximum of 3 coaches per team. Players will receive a t-shirt and a hat. When signing up, please let us know what day of the week does not work for your child to attend practice. Players will be assigned to each team at random. Player requests will not be honored. Grade indicated is as of the 2022-2023 school year.

Page 13 CPR Training, Blended Learning This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. This meets OSHA/workplace requirements.

This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session. The online portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class portion and must be taken on a PC or tablet with a high speed Internet connection. Allow approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to complete the online portion. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.

Page 22 Instructor: Sara Feider Cross Country Jump start your training for the Fall 2022 middle school cross country season! At this camp you’ll learn dynamic warmup routines, body weight strength exercises appropriate for young runners, nutritional strategies for training and competition. Additionally, you’ll run varying distances (depending on current fitness and ability) to get you ready for the real training you’ll do in AugustOctober with your school team. Please dress in running clothing.

This program is for athletes planning to compete in middle school cross country during the Fall 2022 season. All middle school runners are welcome, regardless of school affiliation. Each participant will receive a t-shirt.

You will take home a beautiful yet functional work of art to give as a gift or use to hold jewelry, spare change or other small items.

Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Tony-nominated Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and many of your other favorite characters plus the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the 2013 animated Disney film, with music and lyrics by Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production. All actors, singers, dancers, and technicians are welcome whether it’s your 10th show with Shorewood Drama Jr. or if you’re joining us “for the first time in forever.” 2022 is going to be the coolest summer ever.

Football Camp This camp will be an introduction to football focusing on individual development and team play. Head Shorewood-Messmer football coach Antoine Davis and his high school staff and players will instruct all participants in the fundamentals of the game. The energy and leadership displayed in the fall on Friday nights by the high school coaches and players will be shared continuously throughout the camp with all youth players. All instructors will teach individual techniques and traits that lead to successful team play. There will be individual, group, and team sessions throughout the camp. Participants will be divided by age throughout the camp for appropriate drills. This is a no pad, no contact camp.

Participants should wear shorts, t-shirts, and/or athletic pants. If campers have their own footballs, please write your name clearly on it, and feel free to bring it to camp.

Page 6, 8 Instructor: Jenny Lee Lacrosse Clinic, Boys Lacrosse is a fast sport that combines aspects of soccer, hockey and basketball. This fun program is for boys going into 5K through 6th grade in fall. The clinic is geared toward new players and those with one year of playing experience. Open only to boys who live in communities that serve the Whitefish Bay, Nicolet, or Shorewood public schools; or live in east-side Milwaukee.

Through skills and drills, and small-sided, no contact scrimmages players will learn about the game of lacrosse. All lacrosse equipment (gloves, elbow and shoulder pads, helmets, and sticks) will be provided if needed. Players must bring a mouth guard. Cleats and an athletic cup are recommended. This is a great opportunity for boys who are new to the sport to give it a try. Come out and play this sport that Sports Illustrated calls the “Fastest Growing Sport in the US”, plus have fun with friends. Participants need to show up at 2:30 pm on the first day to get equipment.

Students will receive fundamental instruction, riding and games culminating in the last day field trip to ride the single-track trails at Kegel Alpha Trail near Whitnall Park. Open to youth that can currently ride a bike and are interested in learning to mountain bike. Riders will be placed in groups based on age and experience. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Properly-fitting helmets are required. Loaner bikes will

be made available for those in need by including this information in the note section when registering online. Instructors will need to know the type of bike your child will be riding prior to the class beginning. She teaches songwriting at Berklee College of Music and GRAMMY Camp. Anne is a Shorewood mom and transplant from Ann Arbor, MI where she hosts children’s music camps every summer.

During this week-long camp, children will have the opportunity to sing, make up stories and be creative in new ways! We’ll play games that explore melody, rhythm, and words. We’ll also draw and free write as a way to come up with song ideas. Mid-week we’ll create a group song based on a topic the children are interested in such as friendship, nature, pets, self-confidence, favorite books/TV shows or someone they admire. At the end of the week, the children will share what they’ve created via a short presentation. Most importantly, we will have fun! Participants need to bring a notebook everyday.

The PADI Open Water Diver class is the world’s most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to scuba diving. This class consists of three main phases- Knowledge Development, Confined Water and Open Water Dives. You will complete the online Knowledge Development at home to learn the basic principles of scuba diving. Then, during the Confined Water and Open Water Dives, you will learn basic scuba skills such as mask and regulator clear-

ing, buoyancy control, emergency air management and dive planning. You will earn the PADI Open Water Diver Certification when all three parts have been completed. To join in the PADI Open Diver Class, you must be 10 years of age or older, be able to swim 200 yards without stopping and be able to tread or float for 10 minutes. Recently an explosive interest in making this fermented bread has taken place. Making sour dough bread is easy and healthy and delicious. This class includes all aspects of sour dough bread baking: the Starter, Flours, Salting, Hydration ratios, the leaven, the autolyze, kneading/resting/stretching, proofing. (basketball/ bannetons), the rise, etching, Dutch oven baking, the crumb, the crust. A sour dough starter is included so you can make great sour dough bread at home. We will make a wonderful sour dough bread using steel cut oats (for texture) and two kinds of King Arthur Flours. We will taste our freshly baked bread along with butter and honey from Steve’s Bees. Course documents will be supplied. Bring a pen/pencil to take notes. Steve Shapson has been instructing in the culinary arts for over 15 years, which included cheese/yogurt/kefir/kombucha making, edible mushroom cultivation. Sour dough bread is his latest passion after having three friends introduce him to the wonderful taste.

Students with at least one year experience may continue to refine their individual and group performance skills by participating in the Elementary Orchestra class. Parent’s Meeting: An Informational meeting for all beginners and their parents/ guardians will be scheduled in May. Page, 26 Instructor: Julie Nolan Swim Lessons, Group & Private Page, 29, 30 Table Tennis Camp This is a table tennis training camp. Students will learn some of the important fundamental techniques of the sport of table tennis, including forehand and backhand strokes, serving, how to return and put spin on the ball, and the official rules. Footwork will be stressed. The course will be conducted by Linda Leaf, the only USATT and ITTF Certified Level II Table Tennis Coach in Wisconsin. Participants must wear athletic shoes.

Throughout this course students will learn the names of traditional tap steps and learn how to execute them in combinations at different speeds and techniques. T-Ball Program, Hitters T-Ball games will be played on Saturday at 10 or 11 am beginning June 4 and will end July 23. Practices will be arranged by volunteer coaches and will begin the week of May 16 between 5:30 - 7:30 pm at Lake Bluff or Atwater Diamonds. Parents who coach will have their child on their team. We will accept a maximum of 3 coaches per team. Players will receive a t-shirt and a hat. When signing up, please let us know what day of the week does not work for your child to attend practice. Players will be assigned to each team at random. Player requests will not be honored. Grade indicated is as of the 2022-2023 school year.

Page 13 Teen Fitness Camp We will be hosting a camp to instruct teens on safe and proper techniques to working out. It will be geared towards athletes, but all fitness levels are welcomed. During this camp we will challenge the participants with plyometrics, circuits, agility work, and cardio. Each day will consist of different types of workouts to introduce them to several types of exercise. Afterwards they will have a base knowledge of what to do when he or she goes to workout.

Participants that attend at least seven of the sessions will be given a free Fitness Center membership for the 2022-2023 school year.

Participants will be able to create at least one 3D flower out of the three proposed projects. They will create and paint their flower, and if they have time, can make more than one.

Page 21 Instructor: Kelly Caufield 3D Printing Students will understand the history of 3D printing and the importance and value that it will have on their everyday lives as they get older. Students will use a kid friendly CAD program to help them build and design projects that they will be able to 3D print. As we progress throughout the class we will continue to add new tools and skills to make more complex projects and design.

American Red Cross swimming and water safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. There are no refunds for this program. Prerequisites: 16 years old by the final scheduled lesson of this course; demonstrate 25 yards of front crawl, back crawl, breastroke, elementary backstroke, side stroke and 15 yards of butterfly to level 4 skills or higher; maintain back float for one minute and tread water one minute. This will be conducted on the first day of class. Please bring proof of ID. Persons unable to complete the pre-test will not be allowed to continue. Registration deadline is 3 weeks before class begins. An email will be sent prior to the class start date with details of class requirements/prerequisites. Must send certification of completion of all 9 online rounds prior to class start date.

All materials are online. Must attend all days and complete all water and oral assignments. Must pass all practical skills and obtain 80% or higher on a written test to pass. This is a once only test.

No retakes allowed. Please plan on several hours of homework.

Please register with your own personal email address. No refunds will be given once registration deadline has passed. Registration deadline is three weeks before class begins. An email will be sent prior to the class start date with details of class requirements/ prerequisites. Co-Op Congratulations, you’re having a baby! Everyone wants to bring gifts for the little one, but what about the parents? What do new parents really need? How will new parents get the care they deserve? Come learn about planning for your 4th trimester or postpartum. Topics will include: expectations vs reality, common struggles, handling visitors, and making a postpartum plan. This class is for adults, expecting parents, and/or grandparents.

Page 8 Instructor: Jennifer Barton, Postpartum Doula Yoga, Beach The exquisite back drop of Atwater Beach is incredibly healing when you can practice yoga near water and connect with the soothing surroundings. All skill levels are welcome. Limited individual instruction will be provided. Bring your own mat/towel/yoga accessories. Class will be held unless thunder & lightning, high wind gusts, rainstorms, or below 60 degree weather should occur.

The instructor will determine if the class will be held. Participants will not be notified if the class is cancelled. Please pay $5 to the Recreation Department staff at the start of each class.

Page 7 Instructor: Haley Fuhr Yoga, Youth Mindful Self Compassion Co-Op Children are invited to join educator and certified Mindful SelfCompassion instructor, Jamie Lynn Tatera, for a fun and engaging Self-Compassion for Kids camp. Each class session includes mindfulness and self-compassion practice, games, and mindful movement. It has been a hard couple of years for both parents and kids. Because of the pandemic, many kids are experiencing anxiety and/or depression. Self-compassion is the practice of treating ourselves with the same care and kindness that we would offer to a good friend when we experience the inevitable ups and downs of life. High levels of mindfulness and self-compassion are correlated with reduced levels of depression and anxiety and in-

creased levels of happiness. Research has been conducted on Jamie Lynn’s self-compassion program, and participants of the program have experienced “significant gains” in self-compassion and well-being.

Page 26 Instructor: Anna Grosch Zumba Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

1. A Message to Parents For all programs, age and grade requirement will be as of the first day of the class, unless otherwise specified. Please only register your child in the class when he/she meets the requirements. All age and grade requirements are set to benefit the child and make instruction consistent for the instructor. In some instances, the requirements have been set for the child’s safety.

2. Pick Up and Drop Off for Programs We are UNABLE to escort your child to and from any recreation programs due to the staffing needs that this service would require. All transportation arrangements for classes must be made on the parent/guardian’s part. Parents are reminded to pick their children up at the completion time listed for the activity they are participating in. Recreation staff are not responsible for participants once their class is completed (they are not paid to wait for parents who are late in picking up their children.) We also ask parents to stress to their children that when they are in a school building, they should go directly to their program activity area and not wander around the building. We do not wish to lose our privilege to utilize these facilities because of participants being where they should not be. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

3. Disruptive Participants During the course of our programs, there have been times that disruptive participants have impacted our classes. Our instructors try to work with these participants; however, sometimes the behavior becomes such that it affects the ability of the other students to learn, of the instructor to teach, or provide a safe learning environment. The following procedure will be in effect if problems occur: a. Verbal contact between instructor and program participant and/or parent. b. Verbal contact between the Recreation Department and program participant and/or parent. c. Reoccurrence following these conversations will result in removal from the program.

There will be no refund of fees for individuals removed from programs due to disruptive behavior. The determination of program offering depends on the number of registered participants.

4. On-site Registration Instructors will not accept registration or payment at the class site. All registration transactions must be complete at the Recreation Department or Fitness Center prior to classes starting, or by the sign-up deadline. The price of the class is increased by $10 if you register the day of or after the class has started.

5. Reduce / Waiver of Fees The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department recognizes that some of the resident of the Village of Shore-

wood may require financial assistance to participate in recreation programs. If your child attends Shorewood Public Schools and has qualified for Shorewood’s Nutritional Services Free and Reduced Meal Program, the student and their family members may receive the reduced program fees as listed below. Please indicate your participation in the Shorewood Nutritional Services Free and Reduced Meal Program on your registration form. If you live in the Village of Shorewood, you may qualify for reduced program fees. Please complete a reduced program fee form and return the form to the Shorewood Recreation Department. The Recreation Department will notify you regarding your eligibility to receive the reduced program fees as listed below within two business days after receiving your application. Upon approval of your request, payment will be required prior to participation in the program. Reduced program fees are not granted after the registration has been processed. The Shorewood Recreation Department reserves the right to deny participants request for reduced program fees. Program fees may be reduced by the following: Cost of Class Up to $10 $10.01 - $29.99 $30 and above

Discount on Program Fees Minimum payment of $5 $5 discount $10 discount

Programs that do not qualify for a discount rate include vendor programs, field trips, co-op programs, and Activity Nights. The Recreation Department does not want to exclude any Shorewood Public School student or a student that lives in Shorewood who may be unable to participate due to financial hardship. If a family is unable to pay the entire youth program fee, the parent/guardian should contact the Department in writing and arrangements may be made so that the youth is able to participate at a further reduced program fee. The Recreation Department does offer payment plan options.

6. Payment Plan Unable to pay your program fees in full at the time of registration?

7. Cancelled Classes All programs are subject to change. Programs will be subject to cancellation should low attendance warrant such a decision.

There may be times classes need to be cancelled due to weather, facility scheduling, etc. We will attempt to reschedule the class.If we are unable to make up the class, we will determine on a case by case basis whether or not we will issue a refund or credit. 8. Sharing of Personal Information The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department requires personal information from each participant on the registration form. The information provided to us by each individual is used solely for the purpose of participating in Shorewood Recreation programs. The Shorewood Recreation Department will not share participant’s information with outside parties.

9. Late Fees All program registrations must occur prior to classes starting, or by the sign-up deadline. The price of the class is increased by $10 if you register the day of or after the class has started.

10. Refund Procedure Full refunds will not be issued unless a program is cancelled by the Recreation Department.

11. Returned Checks There will be a $25 service fee on all returned checks.

12. Can I Drop a Class After It Started?

You are important to us! The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department is committed to excellence by providing high quality programs and services. If you or a family member are not satisfied with a class, program or service offered by the Department, please let us know prior to the start of the third class. In order to receive a pro-rated credit you must notify our office prior to the 3rd class. After the 3rd class has met, a credit for that class will not be issued. The credit expires two years from the date of issue and can be applied online.

13. Fee For Transferring or Dropping A Class Before It Starts You may drop or transfer a class before it starts without penalty if completed at least two business days prior to the class beginning. A $10 fee per registration will be assessed if we do not receive this notice. You will receive credit for dropping a class, which can be applied online.

14. Vendor Program As indicated in the program description, these classes are contracted out by private businesses for the Recreation Department.

We are unable to give a credit five business days before the start of the class.

15. Inclement Weather Cancellations Programs will be cancelled when the weather is inclement or fields are not playable. Please call the information line, (414) 9636913 x 3, to determine if a program is cancelled.

16. Waiting Lists If classes are filled when you enroll, please request to be placed on a waiting list, or opt for it online. If there are any cancellations or new classes opened, you will be notified by email and permitted to register for them. No names are put on a waiting list after the first class has met. Please do not attend the class if you are on a waiting list. Payment is not accepted for the waiting list.

17. Smoking/Alcohol Use Policy The use of all tobacco products or drinking of alcoholic beverages on all School District premises is prohibited by state law.

18. Donation For Recreation Rounding up your program fee helps provide financial support to individuals who are unable to afford program fees. If you are rounding up, please put the amount you would like to round up in the appropriate box on the registration form. You can donate online by going to Donation for Recreation or with your phone registration.

19. Photos & Social Media For program promotion, photographs may be taken of participants from time to time. If you do not wish to have your photograph taken, please notify the photographer and/or class instructor. The Shorewood Recreation Department uses social media as one of the ways to promote our programs. Please inform us if you choose to opt out of photo use and/or social media.

20. A Great Gift Idea - Gift Certificate Do you have a friend or family that has everything? The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Gift Certificates are available in any amount and can be used toward any program offered in the Recreation Activity Guide. Contact us for more information.
