Another ARBA Convention is in the books. Congratulations to the winners! A confirmed case of RHVD was confirmed in Rankin County Mississippi and unfortunately, I live within the 125mile radius, which ARBA recommends exhibitors do not show. I was so looking forward to attending Convention, but evidently it just wasn’t meant to be. I haven’t been able to attend any shows because of the RHVD confirmed case in MS; however, the quarantine time should be over and I hope to be back at the shows in December. I look forward to seeing my Wooly peeps.
Another winter is upon us. We got our first cold night of 34 degrees recently. It goes without saying that I had to prep for the cold night. Hay was put in each cage and since the temperature did not fall below freezing, I did not have to drain my automatic water system. I was relieved that I did not have to be concerned with freezing lines. I am thankful that Louisiana gets very few below freezing temps. For those that have frigid winters, it goes without saying, please be careful when using any kind of heat in your barn.
In ending, please send me pictures, tips, and Best in Show wins. As always, I can normally be found on Facebook and messaging me is the easiest way to contact me.

and DeAnn Boulier was in charge of purchasing the show awards. Show clerks and ramrods were Julie and Lindsay Aversa, and Michaeline McConnel and Brenda Reilley on the Open tables, with Haley Jewell and Michelle DeSelm on the Youth tables. I think everyone who watched ran at least a few rabbits to and from the show tables—thank you all so very much! Thank you to all of our booth table helpers, both the schedule and drop in help were appreciated. These are all jobs that seem thankless, but know that I am so very grateful for every little bit that every one of you did before, during and after Convention. Welcome to our new board members, District Directors Bethany Robertson for D1, Izzy Bukovich for D3 and Michelle Landis for D9. Brenda Kneir and Mae Swan were re-elected for districts 5 and 7. I’m looking forward to an exciting year with the board!
We have a scholarship application deadline coming on April 30th. Any graduating high school senior seeking higher education may apply. Whether you, or your graduating senior, are looking at trade school or college, please encourage them to apply. We have two $1000.00 scholarships to give out.
In the next few weeks some of our committees will be taking up their charges once again. The Guidebook Committee is working on revising the guidebook and discussing best formats for that information, while the Education Committee will be looking at creating materials to help breeders and judges in understanding our breed. The club’s Standards Committee will take up the new “vote-in color process agreed upon by the ARBA Standards committee, and announced at convention. This is a process by which we can add certain colors to “complete” groups via a ballot and membership vote. So, for example, we as a breed club may choose to add chocolate and lilac otters to our slate. With a passing membership vote and recommendation to the ARBA Standards committee, these colors could be added to our roster for showing as soon as next year.
I’m looking forward to the coming year, and to working with all of you again. Keep those nest boxes full!
