Riverscape Medellín is a project about giving back a social and economically viable space to the people of Medellín, in Spain. It is also a large regional proposal to deal with the issues of infestation and sanitation that the Guadiana river is currently facing.

By providing a factory/research and development plant for the utilization of the Water Hyacinth which is taking over the river, this project seeks to help the community control the invasion. Furthermore, by providing a large scale urban intervention in the form of extended public spaces and parks, the Riverscape Medellín proposal provides new exciting leisure spaces to create a better environment for the town’s population and boost the seasonal tourism economy.

Riverscape Medellín est un projet visant à redonner un espace social et économiquement viable aux habitants de Medellín, en Espagne. Il s’agit également d’une proposition pour faire face aux problèmes régionale d’infestation et d’assainissement auxquels le fleuve Guadiana est confronté.

En fournissant une usine/espace de recherche et développement pour l’utilisation de la jacinthe d’eau qui envahit la rivière, ce projet vise à aider la communauté à contrôler l’invasion. De plus, en proposant une intervention urbaine à grande échelle sous la forme d’espaces publics et de parcs étendus, la proposition de Riverscape Medellín offre de nouveaux espaces de loisirs ainsi qu’un un meilleur environnement pour la population de la ville et stimule l’économie touristique saisonnière.

InSECTivize aims to provide interactive and educative urban pavilions that could bring information about regional edible insects and trigger people’s curiosity.

Each pavilion becomes a unique assemblage of elements and urban furniture that recreate the insect’s life cycle, making their exploration an effortless visual and sensorial experience.

InSECTivize vise à fournir des pavillons urbains interactifs et éducatifs qui pourraient apporter des informations sur les insectes comestibles régionaux et susciter la curiosité des gens.

Chaque pavillon devient un assemblage unique d’éléments et de mobilier urbain qui recréent le cycle de vie de l’insecte, faisant de leur exploration une expérience visuelle et sensorielle sans effort.

In a context where all services are designed for tourists around the main Plaza Mayor, Uncover Esteban is a project that would activate a secondary plaza more focused on the needs and activities of residents of Segovia.

The goal was to analyze and showcase the potential of the Plaza San Estaban, currently used as an over crowed parking in the center of Segovia’s old medieval town.

Uncover Esteban is a project, inspired by the ‘better block’ philosophy and ethic. It is a participatory project in which, residents get a chance to experience the quality of a space re-appropriated by them, for them.

Dans un contexte où tous les services sont dédiés aux touristes autour de la Plaza Mayor, Uncover Esteban est un projet qui activerait une place secondaire plus axée sur les besoins et les activités des résidents de Ségovie.

L’objectif était d’analyser et de mettre en valeur le potentiel de la Plaza San Estaban, actuellement utilisée comme parking dans le centre de la vieille ville médiévale de Ségovie.

Uncover Esteban est un projet inspiré par la philosophie et de l’éthique du «Better Block». Il s’agit d’un projet participatif dans lequel, les résidents peuvent se réapproprier un espace publics qui leur est dédié.

Omaha was once the leading city in the meat industry with its numerous stockyard centers. When those closed in the 1960s, many people were left without jobs, and lower-income neighborhoods become food deserts.

InSECtivize tries to weave food production and social capital in the North Omaha neighborhood through the implementation of seasonal gardens, insect farming, waste recycling management, and public experimental kitchens, grocery stores, etc... By providing an alternative food production ecosystem, these elements create a network of shared spaces, improves economic stability and provides a new sense of pride for the neighborhood residents.

Omaha était autrefois la ville la plus importante des Etats-Unis dans l’industrie de la viande. Lorsque les entreprises ont fermé leurs portes dans les années 1960, de nombreuses personnes se sont retrouvées sans emploi et les quartiers populaires sont deviennus des déserts alimentaires.

InSECtivize essaie de tisser un réseau de production alimentaire et renouer capital social dans le quartier de North Omaha à travers la mise en place de jardins saisonniers, d’élevage d’insectes, de gestion du recyclage des déchets et de cuisines publiques expérimentales, d’épiceries, etc ... En fournissant un écosystème alternatif de production alimentaire, ces éléments créer un réseau d’espaces partagés, améliore l’économie et procure un nouveau sentiment de fierté aux habitants du quartier.

The aim of this project is to establish an ecosystem of food production, both for local and global consumption, and generate new forms of food consumption through technology and art.

We have noticed a growing, global understanding of the lack of transparency and moral ethics that surround the meat industry, and people are starting to demand healthier, more sustainable, alternatives. Meat is still for an important part of our western diets and the main source of protein for non-vegetarians and vegans.

Omaha being a leading American city in the meat industry for about 100 years, we thought it would be relevant to focus this project on new, more sustainable forms of producing and consuming the required protein intake of American individuals.

We believe that Omaha can be a driving force in the very needed shift of food consumption; the end goal of which will be high-quality products locally sourced in the most ethical manner.

The Riparian Borders project is born from a belief that architecture can alter, and improve, the threshold border condition between the US and Mexico.

From El Paso/ Cuidad Juarez, all the way to the Atlantic ocean, the border between both countries lies the center of the Rio Grande. For decades the border would shift, following the river fluctuation, until the river was fixed in a concrete canal in 1962.

The IBWC and CILA, are two institutions that were put in place to control the condition of both the border and the river in the area.

Through Riparian Borders, both institutions would share for the first time their headquarters, over the border. In a time of debate around the construction of a wall spamming a larger area of the border, we took action and decided to raise the headquarters above these tensions and above the border; a symbolic action as IBWC and CILA work hand in hand in overseeing the quality of and life and biodiversity around the river.

Le projet Riparian Borders est né de la conviction que l’architecture peut modifier et améliorer la condition frontalière entre les États-Unis et le Mexique.

Depuis El Paso / Cuidad Juarez, jusqu’à l’océan Atlantique, la frontière entre les deux pays se trouve au centre du Rio Grande. Pendant des décennies, la frontière a changé, suite à la fluctuation du fleuve, jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit fixée dans un canal en béton en 1962.

L’IBWC et la CILA sont deux institutions qui ont été mises en place pour contrôler l’état de la frontière et du fleuve dans la région. Par le biais de Riparian Borders, les deux institutions partageraient pour la première fois leur siège social, tout en surplombant la frontière.

Dans une période de débat autour de la construction d’un mur sur une plus grande zone de la frontière, nous avons décidé d’élever le siège au-dessus de ces tensions et au-dessus de la frontière; une action symbolique car IBWC et CILA travaillent main dans la main pour superviser la qualité de la vie et la biodiversité autour du fleuve.

Time Out is a social project meant to provide new, fun and alternative ways of working, or studying, in the city of St Andrews.

The whole working space is based on an economical model of paying by the hour the use of the space and with a social dimension of activities and areas for socializing and leisure.

The project is set on Market Street, a busy street at the heart of the town, and seeks to create a new relation to public space. Usually, on the ground floor for easy access, the public space is here utilizing the space above the residential roofs of the street thus creating an elevated interior street for a creative coworking experience.

Time Out est un projet social destiné à fournir de nouvelles façons amusantes et alternatives de travailler ou d’étudier dans la ville de St Andrews.

L’ensemble de l’espace de travail est basé sur un modèle économique de paiement à l’heure et offre une dimension sociale avec des espaces de socialisation et de loisirs.

Le projet est prévu sur Market Street, une rue animée au cœur de la ville, et cherche à créer une nouvelle relation à l’espace public. Habituellement, au rez-de-chaussée pour un accès facile, l’espace public utilise ici l’espace audessus des toits résidentiels de la rue, créant ainsi une rue intérieure surélevée pour une expérience de coworking créative.

ANALOGOUS TOWERS Headquarters for Segovian Festivals Siège pour les festivals de Ségovie Segovia, Spain Idea & Form II, prof. Jose Vela and Laura Martínez de Guereñu, Spring 2015

The project proposal was to design the headquarters of the various art festivals which take place in Segovia throughout the year.

The challenge of the Analogous Towers was to build on the already existing Puerta la Santiago while preserving its medieval integrity and taking into consideration building height restrictions in Segovia. The program for the headquarters offices was thus spread out over the two new Analogous Towers.

The materiality of the new towers was meant to blend in with the surrounding context on the lower parts of the building, and allow for a more contemporary aesthetic on the upper parts. Exterior shared spaces were integrated as connecting moments between the various towers.

La proposition de projet était de concevoir le siège des différents festivals d’art qui se déroulent à Ségovie tout au long de l’année.

Le défi des Analogous Towers était de s’appuyer sur la Puerta la Santiago déjà existante tout en préservant son intégrité médiévale et en tenant compte des restrictions de hauteur des bâtiments à Ségovie. Le programme des bureaux du siège sociale a ainsi été étalé entre les deux nouvelles Analogous Towers.

La matérialité des nouvelles tours devait se fondre dans le contexte environnant sur les parties inférieures du bâtiment et permettre une esthétique plus contemporaine sur les parties supérieures. Des espaces partagés extérieurs ont été intégrés comme moments de connexion entre les différentes tours.

The aim of this project was to transform the patios of the Colegio El Peñascal and turn them into actual playgrounds. The project was defined after participatory meetings with students from the school as well as parents and the administrative team. Using paint as the main design strategy allowed for a low-cost project that entirely transforms the kids’ experience and allow for a whole set of new activities to emerge.

L’objectif de ce projet était de transformer les cours extérieur du Colegio El Peñascal et d’en faire de véritables terrains de jeux. Le projet a été défini d’après des rencontres participatives avec les élèves de l’école ainsi que certains parents et l’équipe administrative. L’utilisation de la peinture comme stratégie de conception principale a permis un projet à faible coût qui transforme complètement l’expérience des enfants et permet à un ensemble de nouvelles activités d’émerger.

The Casa de Lectura is an interior restoration project for an old royal jail dating back to the 16th century. The D-Lab collaborated with the municipal government of Segovia to created a contemporary space for reading.

The team of students taking part in this project worked on all the conceptual proposals, as well as all the construction documents needed to build this new cultural center in the heart of Segovia.

La Casa de Lectura est un projet de restauration intérieure d’une ancienne prison royale datant du XVIe siècle. Le D-Lab a collaboré avec le gouvernement municipal de Ségovie pour créer un espace de lecture contemporain.

L’équipe d’étudiants participant à ce projet a travaillé sur toutes les propositions conceptuelles, ainsi que tous les documents nécessaires à la construction de ce nouveau centre culturel au cœur de Ségovie.

This interior design for Jonndo’s shoe shop was conceived as a passage in which different objects are revealed and experienced as ones walks through the space.

In this project, I was in charge of the whole model making process which was key to the exploration of materiality during meetings with the client. I also worked on the drafting of construction documents such as plans and sections.

Ce design d’intérieur pour la boutique de chaussures de Jonndo a été conçu comme un passage dans lequel différents objets sont révélés au fur et à mesure que l’on se promène dans l’espace.

Dans ce projet, j’étais en charge du processus de création de modèle qui était clé à l’exploration de la matérialité lors des rencontres avec le client. J’ai également travaillé sur les documents de construction de plans et coupes.

STRIPPED LANDSCAPES Artificial reconstruction of biodiversity Reconstruction artificielle de la biodiversité Project partner: Jose Lacruz Vela Kemeri Park, Latvia Great Kemeri Bog Center Competition, October 2018

The importance placed on national parks is proof of a country’s dedication to preserving and restoring, natural wildlife. In this context, Stripped Landscapes wants to celebrate Kemeri’s local biodiversity by re/introducing species found around the site as well as vegetation from the Kemeri Region.

The Visitor Center is organized in such a way that the program follows the rhythm of the linear landscape. The strips allow for a segmentation of the program, both in terms of use and length of stay.

The built structures make use of natural materials that could be extracted from the close surroundings.

The different paths, although slightly elevated, allow for great proximity to the vegetation and encourages people to walk down and explore the grounds of the Stripped Landscapes Visitor Center.

L’importance accordée aux parcs nationaux est la preuve du dévouement d’un pays à la préservation et à la restauration de la faune et flore naturelle.

Dans ce contexte, Stripped Landscapes veut célébrer la biodiversité locale de Kemeri en réintroduisant les espèces trouvées autour du site ainsi que dans la végétation de la région de Kemeri.

Le Visitor Center est organisé de telle manière que le programme suit le rythme du paysage linéaire. Les bandelettes permettent une segmentation du programme, tant en termes d’utilisation que de durée de séjour.

Les structures construites utilisent des matériaux naturels qui pourraient être extraits des environs proches.

Les différents sentiers, bien que légèrement surélevés, permettent une grande proximité avec la végétation et encouragent les gens à descendre et à explorer les motifs du centre d’accueil Stripped Landscapes.

Prologue is a student-run magazine, designed and edited by Architecture and Design students at IE University. Prologue serves as a new platform for discussion and self-expression through various narratives and contributions from students.

We aim to go beyond the acquired knowledge within the university and developed new narratives through personal experience, research, and inquiry.

All issues are centered around a theme that triggers curiosity and allows for exploration in the contemporary world of architecture and design as well as their theoretical understanding constructed over time.

Prologue est un magazine étudiants, conçue et éditée par des élèves d’architecture et de design de l’ IE University. Prologue offre de nouvelle plateforme de discussion et d’expression à travers divers récits et contributions des étudiants. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this letter to highly recommend Naomi Njold Nyaga Njonjo.

I have been close to Naomi since she started her degree at IE University. I ď&#x192;&#x17E;rst met her in the Spring Semester of 2015, when she enrolled in the d-Lab, a design laboratory which I direct. In the d-Lab, and although she was at her ď&#x192;&#x17E;rst year of the Bachelor in Architecture, her commitment and eagerness to learn was truly impressive. She was always inquisitive, and advancing whatever the task she was asked to develop. Later, I was her professor during the Fall Semester of 2016 of Design Studio III. Unsurprisingly for me, her performance was impeccable, and every day with her was a true enjoyment, intellectually as well as personally. During this course she also expanded her interests, focusing on issues beyond the Studio brief, in topics like the city, the urban scale, and the phenomena that make our urban environments. The year after, when she was ď&#x192;&#x17E;nishing her 4th year, and although she was overseas during the semester for an academic exchange, she decided to come back to the d-Lab in Segovia, becoming a key team member for a project for the reactivation of an elementary school. During this period not only she was deeply involved in the project but she also became an instrumental mentor for junior students. Finally, and even if she was developing her thesis, during the Spring of 2019 she returned to the d-Lab, where she again demonstrated her professionalism.

On a more personal level, her kindness and her willingness to listen and contribute is a remarkable personality trait that makes working with her an authentic pleasure. I strongly recommend Naomi as she will no doubt be a strong member of your team.
