Message From Your Lieutenant Governor Hello Division 8! I hope you all are having an amazing summer and a well deserved break from school. My suggestion to you all is to

diffract your duties over the summer and start planning out fundraising for events such as Fall Rally and DCON. This way, when you begin the school year, you will not be in a

helter-skelter

manner and all over the place. As well, NJ and I just returned from ICON (International Convention). We went to so many places and dressed with

soigne. It would be a tarradiddle

to say that it was not tiring, but it was so much fun and an amazing experience. The pledge was changed for the first time in Key Club history, not without

contravening and debate, but a 2/3

Majority was met. "God" was changed to "world" to be more inclusive of everyone! It inspired a

youthquake and our IP International

President Emily Rice addressed the fact that our voices matter in her final speech. Everyone at ICON were so kind and friendly, not

lickspittle

at all, and next year it is in San Francisco! To not continue with

garrulity and idle talkativeness,

let me end this welcome here! Enjoy this newsletter and your summer break!

Club Spotlight BRICK GARDEN CLUB VOLUNTEERING BY BROOKE LOZA Even in the summer, the Brick Memorial Key Club continues to help their homes, schools, and communities. They volunteered with the Brick Garden Club on Monday, July 8th and Wednesday July 10th. Members came early in the morning on both days to help the Brick Garden Club set up and then dismantle the event. The event showcased many different plants, and flowers, and united the community. For the Key Clubbers' hard work, the Brick Garden Club donated $100 to their efforts for the District Project, Hunger in NJ. Awesome job, Brick Memorial!

International Convention JULY 1-2 During the first two days of ICON, New Jersey Key Club toured all across Washington. We took a night tour of some famous monuments in DC, saw the Vietnam War memorial, the Korean War memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Roosevelt's memorial, and more. On the second day, NJKC had the honor to visit the Arlington cemetery where our District Executives had the privelege of laying a weath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Afterwards, we went to the Smithsonian African American History Museum. Later that night, we went to the Washington National Stadium!

JULY 3-4 On the third day of ICON, we headed to Baltimore, Maryland. We got to the Meet & Greet and traded pins with Key Clubbers across the world. On Thursday, we had an opening session and workshops where we learned about our position and partners of Key Club. We enjoyed the fireworks on July 4th with the other Districts!

JULY 5-7 On the last two days of ICON, we had some more workshops where we learned new skills from singing Karaoke to learning how to swing dance! We also heard from International Candidates and learned about their platform. On the final day of ICON, we voted on new changes in the rules for Key Club, including changing the pledge to be more inclusive for everyone. We found out the new International Board, with New Jersey's very own Kaitlin Cirillo as the Internation Vice President! We also got to meet Laura Marano, famous singer and actor who also partners with the Thirst Project!

K-Family Picnic

Every year, over the summer, the New Jersey Kiwanis Family Picnic is held to unite the KFamily in an afternoon of fun! Circle-K hosts the picnic and plans exciting activities for the guests. The price to attend is $10. At the Kiwanis Family Picnic, you will meet all members of the K-Family, play games like volleyball, so service projects, and overall have an engaging time. This year, the Kiwanis Family Picnic will be held in Green Island Community Association Club House, Toms River, New Jersey on Sunday, July 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Not only will you learn more about the K-Family, but you will meet Key Clubbers from across the District! The event is relatively close to us and it’s an amazing opportunity!

Fall Rally Have you ever wanted to attend an event that not only brings you closer to other Key Clubbers, but also allows you to enjoy an amusement park for a whole day? Then come to Fall Rally! The 2019 Fall Rally will be on Sunday, October 13th, 2019 at Six Flags Great Adventure, home to the largest gathering of Key Clubbers in Jackson, New Jersey. Fall Rally begins with an hour opening session featuring more information on the District Project of Hunger in New Jersey, listening to an amazing keynote speaker, fighting for the spirit stick, and finding out more about the theme of Fall Rally to explore the jungle of service. After the session, members have the opportunity to enjoy the park for the rest of the day

and only pay half the normal

ticket price! This year, the goal for Fall Rally attendance is at least 3,000 Key Clubbers: this goal has been reached before, and the New Jersey District Board believes it can be reached again. Not only is attending Fall Rally a great way to hang out at Six Flags with friends for half the price, but it also allows you to meet Key Clubbers from across the state, exposing you to the District Level

SUNDAY, OCT. 13TH GREAT ADVENTURE JACKSON, NJ

of New Jersey and likely changing your perspective on service and how far-reaching Key Club is. For all these reasons, we hope to see you at this year’s Fall Rally on Sunday, October 13th, and wish you good luck exploring the jungle of service!

What to Do Over the Summer It can be hard over the summer to not slack off even in Key Club work, but using the summer to your advantage can come in handy. Being proactive in the summer can help when it gets busy during the school year. Here are some things you can do over the summer: 1. Come to Divisional Events: Throughout the summer, I will be holding DCMs. Coming to these can both keep you in touch with the division and give you service hours! 2. Visit your sponsoring Kiwanis Club: strengthening your bond with your sponsoring Kiwanis club is crucial for a strong club. Some ways to do this are to go to their meetings or invite them to service projects! 3. Plan and work on your goals for the year: Making a list of goals for the service year is useful if you would like to see what you have completed throughout the year. Making this list and being proactive can serve as a help when you are busy during the school year!

District Project: Hunger in NJ For the past three years, the New Jersey District Project has been “Hunger in New Jersey”, focusing on families with food insecurity, unsure of where their next meal would come from. We are proud to announce that we will be continuing with this project for the 2019-2020 service year! Many of you reading this are familiar with our project as we have been doing it for so long, which is why our

goals have confidently been set to reach $50,000 in monetary donations, 55,000 lbs of food, and 15,000 collective service hours

by next year’s District Convention. Throughout this service year,

you will hear from the District with ways to increase your involvement with the District Project whether it be through you as an individual, or with the help of your entire club. Not only this, but in order to properly track collections of money, food, and service hours, Club Monthly Report Form completion can’t be stressed enough! Please remember to fill out your CMRFs by the tenth of each month. Also, to keep track of monetary donations, we are setting up a new system to mark everything down. If your club plans on sending a check to a local food bank, please first mail the check to Helene Meissner at 201 Broad St, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 along with your school name and the food bank you would like it to be sent to from there.
