Message From Your Lieutenant Governor Hello Division 8! I hope the summer is not coming to a hamartia and you are enjoying the

last

the

I

hope

Although

summer is coming to a close soon, there is no need for ululation. Summer can be extremely busy between vacations, summer jobs, and summer work, but it is also a great time to plan ahead for the year. Do not be foppish when it comes to planning, the more time you alot the less you have to stress during the year.

For

the

obsequious

seniors,

when

it

Member Recruiting Ideas Increasing membership every year is a crucial aspect to a successful club. Ideally, you want to aim to increase membership from the amount of members the year prior. Recruiting underclassmen is extremely important because they will most likely be the new officers after the current board graduates. Here are some tips to increase membership:

Set up a booth at freshman orientation or club fair Incenticize Fall Rally Have food or games at the meetings Invite freshman to ice breaker events in the beginning of the year Talk about Key Club on the loud speaker in the morning Post flyers around the school Key Club is the largest student-led organization with amazing District Events like no other club

How to Pay Dues Go to keyclub.org Click Dues & Reports (label at the bottom of the page under resources) Click on the Membership Update Center link Log in/Sign up with an Advisor's Account Follow the steps to enter all information on Key Club Membership completely and accurately Submit an updated club roster online

Reminders Fill out the CMRF (you can do one for July-August that is due Sept. 10th) you can click on the pencil! Let me know when you are good for a DCM Plan your fundraising and Fall Rally transportation as Fall Rally is October 13th (coming soon)! Meet with your executive board and/or club to stay active over the summer

Fall Rally Have you ever wanted to attend an event that not only brings you closer to other Key Clubbers, but also allows you to enjoy an amusement park for a whole day? Then come to Fall Rally! The 2019 Fall Rally will be on Sunday, October 13th, 2019 at Six Flags Great Adventure, home to the largest gathering of Key Clubbers in Jackson, New Jersey. Fall Rally begins with an hour opening session featuring more information on the District Project of Hunger in New Jersey, listening to an amazing keynote speaker, fighting for the spirit stick, and finding out more about the theme of Fall Rally to explore the jungle of service. After the session, members have the opportunity to enjoy the park for the rest of the day

and only pay half the normal

ticket price! This year, the goal for Fall Rally attendance is at least 3,000 Key Clubbers: this goal has been reached before, and the New Jersey District Board believes it can be reached again. Not only is attending Fall Rally a great way to hang out at Six Flags with friends for half the price, but it also allows you to meet Key Clubbers from across the state, exposing you to the District Level

SUNDAY, OCT. 13TH GREAT ADVENTURE JACKSON, NJ

of New Jersey and likely changing your perspective on service and how far-reaching Key Club is. For all these reasons, we hope to see you at this year’s Fall Rally on Sunday, October 13th, and wish you good luck exploring the jungle of service!

Who wouldn't want to go to the largest gathering of Key Clubbers in NJ? Also, at 2,000 attendees clubs will get to pie the Executives and LTGs and at 3,000 District Governor Emma Ke will dye her hair blue.

If you are taking a bus to Fall Rally, make sure you register early and get a BUS PASS! Start planning transportation now before the school year begins.

Our division is the LION! At Fall Rally, there will be a King of the Jungle competition where divisions will compete to see what animal is king. We will be making props and accessories!

Fall RTCs Fall Regional Training Conferences are something you don't want to miss! There are three fall sessions coming up:

Sept. 14th - Voorhees High School Sept. 15th - TBD Sept. 21st - West Deptford High School At RTCs,

the New Jersey District Board will present

workshops about officer/member-specific roles, how to keep member enthusiasm up, information on what the district project is and how you can help out, and more! And this year, we are introducing a new workshop for advisors!

All RTCs are from 9:00am to 1:00pm, so you still have the majority of your day left after attending. If you need any help with transportation, carpooling is always popular, or sometimes if many people from your school want to go, you can even get a bus. One popular benefit of RTCs: free food! There will be breakfast AND lunch provided, so there is no need to bring anything with you unless you want to.

In addition, there will also be a raffle where you

UNDER THE TENT OF SERVICE

can earn some cool Key Club merch! I can guarantee that you and your club will leave the school feeling more motivated than ever to improve your home, schools, and community. Lastly, you will be able to meet Key Clubbers from all over the state and form friendships based off the mutual love for service. All in all, RTCs are an amazing event that everyone should take advantage of and I hope to see you all there!

What to Do Over the Summer It can be hard over the summer to not slack off even in Key Club work, but using the summer to your advantage can come in handy. Being proactive in the summer can help when it gets busy during the school year. Here are some things you can do over the summer: 1. Start planning for fundraisers throughout the school year with your club. Fundraising is greta because it can offset the cost of amazing District events like Fall Rally. 2. Meet with your club/board over the summer. You don't want to go into the school year not having set plans. Talk out the events you will be having, any ideas, the first meeting, etc. 3. Make sure you plan for events like freshman orientation. Have officers/general members volunteer the day of. Make a tri-fold, poster, flyers, and/or materials to promote your Key Club! You want to get your voice out early so the freshmen will join.

District Project: Hunger in NJ For the past three years, the New Jersey District Project has been “Hunger in New Jersey”, focusing on families with food insecurity, unsure of where their next meal would come from. We are proud to announce that we will be continuing with this project for the 2019-2020 service year! Many of you reading this are familiar with our project as we have been doing it for so long, which is why our

goals have confidently been set to reach $50,000 in monetary donations, 55,000 lbs of food, and 15,000 collective service hours

by next year’s District Convention. Throughout this service year,

you will hear from the District with ways to increase your involvement with the District Project whether it be through you as an individual, or with the help of your entire club. Not only this, but in order to properly track collections of money, food, and service hours, Club Monthly Report Form completion can’t be stressed enough! Please remember to fill out your CMRFs by the tenth of each month. Also, to keep track of monetary donations, we are setting up a new system to mark everything down. If your club plans on sending a check to a local food bank, please first mail the check to Helene Meissner at 201 Broad St, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 along with your school name and the food bank you would like it to be sent to from there.

District Events are great for meeting people who share the same passion for service as you! Key Leader is a weekend leadership program/camp where students learn what it means to be a servant leader.

DCON 2020 is from March 27-29. It may seem far away, but trust me, it comes sooner than you think! Prepare for the contests at DCON, like the scrapbook, now. Contact me if you have questions!

If you have trouble organizing transportation or lack the resources to attend District Events, let me know! We can work out a solution together.

The District provides so many great things like scholarships, leadership opportunities, great events, contest, awards, and more!

Remember, CMRFs are due the 10th of the following month! For the summer, clubs can combine JulyAugust as a CMRF and that is due Sept. 10th.

Advocacy is speaking on behalf of those who can't speak for themselves. This year, our advocacy focus is Anxiety Awareness and Associated Disorders.
