Office of Global Initiatives at NJIT
VISA PROGRAMS F-1 STUDENTS F-1 students must ensure they are complying with all U.S. federal regulations and requirements of their immigration status. The OGI can provide the most up-to-date and accurate information available. For questions about pursuing a graduate degree at NJIT, refer to the Office of Admissions on how to apply. J-1 STUDENTS The purpose of the J-1 visa program, per U.S. Department of State regulations, is “to provide foreign nationals with opportunities to participate in educational and cultural programs in the U.S. and return home to share their experiences, and to encourage Americans to participate in educational and cultural programs in other countries.”

he Office of Global Initiatives (OGI), formerly the Office of International Students, serves more than 2,500 international

students, from all five continents, both on- and off-campus. The OGI is the primary point of contact and university resource for international students. We provide comprehensive information about and assistance in all immigration matters pertaining to F-1 and J-1 visas, through daily walk-in hours and scheduled appointments. We also oversee and offer a range of programs and services throughout the year to ease the student adjustment to the NJIT community.
NJIT is allowed to host visitors for these categories: • Students who are pursuing a degree at an NJIT partner university and seek an educational and cultural experience in the United States. • Degree students who wish to pursue a degree at NJIT and are sponsored by entities that require a J-1 visa for the program. • Students who are pursuing a degree in their country and come to NJIT to conduct supervised research under a specific professor/department. J-1 students must ensure they are complying with all U.S. federal regulations and requirements of their immigration status. The OGI can provide the most up-to-date and accurate information available.
