Dear friends and supporters,
As we look back on 2024, we are filled with gratitude for the continued progress of NJCTS. This year, we remained dedicated to our mission of supporting individuals and families affected by Tourette Syndrome and associated disorders.
We are proud of the success of our education outreach programs, family support resources and youth development initiatives, which have provided a sense of community for those living with TS. We’ve also expanded our partnerships with schools and healthcare providers to improve TS awareness and understanding.
As we celebrate these accomplishments, I would be remiss not to reflect on the passing of our dear Patricia Phillips, a fierce TS advocate and amazing leader. It is in her steps, and the steps of Faith Rice, that we continue to walk as we continue the work of our mission.
Looking ahead, we are energized by the growing momentum behind our work. We remain committed to ensuring that all those affected by TS have the support they need, and we couldn’t do it without the dedication of our supporters, volunteers, and partners.
Thank you for your continued support. Together, we are making a lasting impact.
Sincerely,

At just 11 years old, Tristan Rivera is already an advocate, a friend, and a proud member of the Tourette Syndrome community. His journey is one that embodies the mission of the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome and highlights the profound impact our programs have on the lives of children and families affected by TS.
Tristan’s story begins with the support of his father, Jamie, who has been his biggest cheerleader every step of the way. Together, they’ve navigated the challenges of living with Tourette Syndrome for the last five years. But it was when they connected with NJCTS that Tristan’s confidence began to soar. Through the programs offered by NJCTS, Tristan found not only valuable resources and support but also lifelong friendships with other children facing similar challenges.
One of the most impactful moments in Tristan’s journey came when he participated in a Youth Advocate Presentation at his school, Green Grove Elementary. With the guidance of Savannah, a Youth Advocate from NJCTS, Tristan shared his experiences with his classmates, answering questions about life with TS and helping to raise awareness. For Tristan, this presentation was a powerful opportunity to educate others and demonstrate the strength and resilience that comes with living with a neurological condition like Tourette Syndrome. His courage to speak up is a direct result of the supportive environment created by NJCTS.
But Tristan’s involvement with NJCTS didn’t stop there. He’s been a regular participant in events such as Camp FantasTIC, where kids with TS come together to learn, grow, and have
fun in a supportive environment. Tristan has also taken part in NJ Walks for TS, the Fall Family Fun Day, and the Family Summit,—all of which have allowed him to build connections with other families and children who truly understand what he’s going through.
Through these events, Tristan has formed lasting friendships with peers like Aiden, Emily, Sophie, and Olivia —friends who provide him with a sense of community and a constant reminder that he is not alone. These relationships have become a cornerstone of his support system, and together, they continue to encourage and uplift each other.
At NJCTS, we understand that it’s not just about raising awareness—it’s about creating real, lasting connections and providing kids like
Tristan with the tools they need to succeed. Our programs like Youth Development, Camp FantasTIC, and Family Support have become lifelines for families across New Jersey, providing essential resources, fostering new friendships, and offering a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
We are proud of the work we do and the difference we make in the lives of children
and families affected by Tourette Syndrome. However, we know there is still much work to be done. The generosity of our donors allows us to continue empowering children like Tristan, helping them realize their potential, build meaningful connections, and raise their voices to educate others about TS.
As we reflect on the past year, we are inspired by the stories of kids like Tristan, who continue to thrive and advocate for themselves and their peers. With your continued support, we can reach even more children and families, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to live fulfilling, empowered lives.
Thank you for being part of the NJCTS family. Together, we are creating a future where children with Tourette Syndrome can live with confidence, make lasting friendships, and know that they are never alone.
Thank you, NJCTS, for helping him create lasting friendships. I can’t express how much it means to see Tristan grow and thrive with the support of this incredible organization. NJCTS has helped us navigate the challenges of living with TS, and they’ve provided us with the tools and resources we need to face each day with confidence.”

NJ Walks for TS returned to an inperson format and families from across New Jersey gathered at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater for a morning of community and fun. Teams raised more than $50,000.
Thirty families traveled to Black Rock Retreat in Lancaster County, PA in June for a joyful and empowering weekend filled with connection and adventure. Camp FantasTIC provides an opportunity to build friendships, share experiences, and participate in exciting activities like laser tag, swimming, and campfires. Camp left everyone with unforgettable memories and a renewed sense of belonging.
In September, NJCTS hosted its second annual Fall Family Fun Day at Von Thun’s Farm in Monmouth Junction, bringing together families for a festive afternoon of seasonal fun and community connection. Attendees enjoyed a variety of classic fall activities, including a scenic hayride, a challenging corn maze, and entertaining farm games.
In 2024, NJCTS expanded its Education Outreach Program, reaching over 600 educators and more than 2,500 elementary and middle school students across New Jersey through school presentations. The Faculty InService Program provided educators with comprehensive information on Tourette Syndrome and associated disorders, offering strategies and accommodations to foster inclusive classroom environments. Additionally, NJCTS offered peer presentations led by Youth Advocates to promote understanding among student populations .
NJCTS also extended its outreach to health care professionals and the law enforcement community as well as attended numerous professional conferences and community health fairs.
The Youth Advocate Program empowered teens aged 13 to 18, many with personal connections to TS, to deliver impactful presentations about their TS journey, emphasizing acceptance and self-advocacy .
Through these multifaceted efforts, NJCTS advanced its mission to reduce stigma, promote understanding, and support individuals with TS and their communities statewide.

What a thrilling night it was at the NJCTS 20th Anniversary Gala! More than 170 members of our community gathered at the Bridgewater Marriott on Thursday, October 17, to celebrate a remarkable journey together.
With the theme “Keeping the Faith,” we honored our inspiring founder, Faith Rice, and presented the Faith W. Rice Legacy Award to her successor, Patricia Phillips, who sadly passed in March. It was heartwarming to see both the Rice and Phillips families in attendance, reminding us of the strong bonds we share.
