Mum’s fitness drive inspires fundraising A BILSTHORPE school teacher was behind an event that raised more than £3,000 for Rainbows Children’s Hospice.
The Flying High Partnership schools throughout Nottinghamshire came together to raise the money by sending teams to tackle a challenging Holme Pierrepont-based triathlon. The challenge was inspired by organiser Fliss Prior, a teacher at Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy — one of the school’s in the partnership — and her mother’s inspirational quest for fitness. Fliss explained: “After seeing my mum complete her first open water swim at the age of 60 in 2017 in a bid to get fitter, I was determined to get other people to realise that they could do ‘stuff’ for the first time too, no matter what age, fitness level or ability.” This idea prompted Fliss to use a triathlon to raise money for a number of charities, most recently for Rainbows Children’s Hospice, The Flying High Partnership’s chosen charity. “I knew that it would be a good opportunity to raise money whilst taking
