Putting a focus on road safety DURING National Eye Health Week, Specsavers at Mansfield and Sutton teamed up with the Via East Midlands road safety team for a campaign about sight testing. During the week-long initiative, teams from Specsavers worked with road safety officers to put on more than 10 events, targeting local drivers. People were challenged to a sight test, where participants read a number plate from the driving standard distance of 20 metres and were offered free eye tests and eye health advice as part of the events. The Specsavers Mansfield team visited the Via East Midlands head office in Bilsthorpe to talk to staff, while the Sutton store team took stalls to Kirkby outdoor market and Ashfield District Council offices. Patrick Hegarty, store director at Mansfield Specsavers, said: “An eye test isn’t just about checking your sight, we also examine your eye health. So many eye conditions that we identify are treatable these days, but if they are left untreated, they can lead to irreversible sight loss. It really is worth having a regular check-up.” The Specsavers Sutton store director, Nigel Davidson, added: “It was great to work together with the local road safety team to talk about how important eyesight is for safe driving.
