Fun Run Success!
On Monday, January 16th, 2023, we had our “Race to Raise” Fun Run at the NIVA campus. It was a wonderful community building event. This is an annual event, and the proceeds are donated to charity. This year, we raised approximately 40,000 Thai Baht that will go to the Bilay House Orphanage charity. Our Fun Run committee, led by Ms. Lulu, did a fantastic job putting the event together and switching the location to the NIVA campus. As always, our wonderful support staff, led by Khun Fon, worked hard to prepare the campus and food. They also did an amazing job throughout the day providing support. Our office staff also went above and beyond to make the event a success.
Thank you to all the parents who came to support the event. We had about 200 parents attend! That number shows the very high level of community support and involvement we have at NIVA. All the parents I spoke with provided

Dear NIVA Family,
Fun Run / Children’s Day was the best event that we had all year. Having all the parents involved was such a great experience. We had a parent and his son both get gold medals. That will be a lifetime memory. It was such an exciting time and we look forward to continuing the event next year.
This week we will have the Chinese New Year ceremony and the SPTC. It is a full week ahead. We will be sending out links for the SPTC today, so please sign up with the teachers so we can show all the progress your child is making. Thanks for all your support parents.

Dear parents, Happy New Year 2023! Welcome all the kids back to school and welcome all the new parents and students to join our Niva family. This week the students had adjusted the routines to be back to the school after the long holidays. Some are very good, some are still crying but no worries they will all be happy to come to school soon. The nursery students are most of the big challenge for teachers to help them feel safe and warm when they are at school. K1 students studied letter ก ไก่. K2 students learnt about letters ด and ต. Also this Saturday was the Children’s Day, they learnt about the motto of the Children's day from the Thai Prime minister “รู้หน้าที มีวันัย ใฝ่ความดี”

Dear Parents,
It's the beginning of Quarter 3 and I am really happy to see my students back to school. Everyone is happy to see their friends and teachers again. We started the week by sharing in the class the activities that the students did during the winter break. Everyone has a different story and the students are really happy spending their time with their families. The students also had a dance rehearsal this week for an upcoming Chinese New Year event and everyone did a really great job.

Dear Parents, Welcome back! It was a fun and productive first week of Quarter 3! The children were happy to come back to school, see their friends and meet new ones, and share their impressions of the holidays. We have four new students, Anda, Poby, Chocher and Tubby, who have joined our K3 family this new year! We warmly welcome them!
We started the week by revising what we learned before the Christmas holidays. It’s amazing how well they are doing counting numbers till 100 and stretching out letter sounds. This week the children also had a dance rehearsal as we were preparing for the upcoming Chinese New Year event.

Dear Parents,
This week we focused heavily on working on our writing process (plan, draft, revise, and share) that was taught to the students before Christmas break. Tying into our new unit in reading that we are about to start and our past field trip for Science, students learn to research for information through reading non-fiction books on their tablets and take notes on important information such as animal structures and functions, habitats, food, and fun facts. I am so amazed at how they did considering this is their first time learning to use their research skills!
Students also did their holiday show and tell throughout the week in the mornings. It was a good opportunity for myself and other students in the class to learn more about each other about how we all celebrate the holidays differently. The students also had so many good questions to ask their peers. I am so proud of them!
Last, but not least, we had a new student, Itim, joining our 1G class this new year! We warmly welcome him and he is already sharing with us all his knowledge that he has with the class!

Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Our first week back in Math and we have started our Unit on Measurement. The first thing we did was to discuss what everybody thought about Meters and Centimeters, then we had a few volunteers come up and we had to guess how wide their arm span was. After that we used the meter stick to see how close we were to our ‘educated guess’. An interesting discovery came up when we measured their height and found that their arm span was the same distance!
In our English class we learnt more on Contractions ( I’m, she’s, couldn’t, etcetera), whereby we did some work in our Journeys Notebook and then practiced by playing a game. The object was to find the matching contraction by asking questions to others in the class and matching their card with yours.
I'd also like to welcome our two new students and their parents to our classroom family, Pooh Bear and Nani.

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Welcome back all! We have started the new term off well and the students are back in the swing of things. Also, this week we welcome two new students, Fanny and S. Let’s welcome them! We have also started our new Social Studies unit where students had to create their own society after their “world” faced a catastrophic event. They will have to work in teams to create rules for how this society will be governed, educated, policed, how they will get money, health, and shelter. Lastly, one of our students had a birthday this week and we celebrated with ice cream cake, yum yum. Check out the pictures below!

● Chinese New Year (Jan. 19): Chinese New Year is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals and has great significance in both China and Thailand. The celebration of Chinese New Year is also an important part of the curriculum, which will allow students to experience and understand Chinese culture in a deeper way.
● SPTC (Jan. 20): A parent–teacher conference is a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress, share your child's strengths & needs, and work with the teacher to help your child do well in school.
● Honor Roll (Jan. 25): Students will be awarded based on their academic achievements, skills & competencies demonstrated, and excellent character.
● Secondary School Camp (Feb. 1-3): Give students the unique opportunity to bond with schoolmates and teachers and connect with nature through outdoor activities, including an overnight camping trip. The camp will reinforce the importance of respect in three aspects: respect for oneself, respect for others, respect for the environment.

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to a new year of learning and excitement. During our first week, we did not slack or relax, but instead dove right into writing and our poetry unit. Our poetry unit is always one that is fun for me because I get to witness our students’ creativity and expression. We began this week by establishing our goals for quarter 3, as well as reflecting on our first semester. We introduced the foundations of poetry and also worked on our academic writing. Our students then proceeded to begin their I AM poems, which will be published at the end of the quarter in their poetry book! Keep up the great work Grade 6!

Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits. This week in our G9 business class, we will be learning about the different types of business organizations. I am excited to share this information and am looking forward to the discussions and activities we will be doing in class.
As you may know, we have some upcoming events that Grade 9 students won't want to miss. We have a Fun run, which will be taking place on 16th January, and the Chinese new year, which will be happening on 19th January. These events are a great opportunity to connect with other students. Fun run will help students learn about goal setting and working towards a personal best and Chinese New Year events can provide students with cultural learning opportunities.
It's also worth noting that both events can promote an inclusive and diverse community, as well as teamwork and socializing with peers.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.

Headline for the week:
Finding friends in unlikely places
This week we launched our Secret Brother and Sister event, hosted by Vivitn Wongperavitch in Grade 12. The main idea behind this event is to encourage kindness amongst the students. The groups are set up in a way that has different students from different grades interacting with one another. That is why our headline revolves around a blossoming of new friendships - something we are certainly looking forward to.
I will provide an update next week.
Until then, share some kindness!

Dear Parents,
Another achievement of our dear children has come into reality. I congratulate our Grade 5G Class for 2nd place in the International Coding Competition held last December 2022. I want to honor you for all your support to your children and for making our school shine locally and internationally.
This month is another exciting month for our coders in primary school. They are now making their game using Scratch 3.0 language to be submitted as an entry for the Kids Coding Competition at the end of this month.
Please encourage your child to take the challenge as a learning experience. If your child is willing to compete, let them stay after school this month (Monday & Tuesday) from 3-4 pm for general coaching about their project. We also ask for your guidance at home as they continue to work on it.
Here are some of the snapshots of our busy coders and keyboarders.

This week as an introduction to the quarter we have started learning with logical games such as Azul, SET, Word Searching, Arranging Numbers, and Pattern Matrix. Games can be an effective way to exercise and improve logical thinking skills because they require players to solve problems, make decisions, and think strategically. Additionally, many games are designed to be challenging and require players to think critically in order to progress. As a result, playing games can help students develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, which are valuable not only in school but also in many other areas of life.
Another reason is that games are often interactive and engaging, making them more interesting and motivating for students than traditional methods of learning. They can also be a fun way to challenge the players and providing them a sense of achievement.
Moreover, game-based learning has the potential to provide immediate feedback and allow students to experiment with different solutions, helping them learn from their mistakes and improve over time.

How do you develop critical thinking? Critical thinking is not just the act of criticizing, or finding fault, but the ability to remain objective, to separate facts and opinions, and to identify fallacious ways of thoughts. This term, the aim is to focus on examining current issues around the globe while learning from history itself, so we do not repeat it.

For quarter 2, we will continue with two (2) ATKs per week. We will continue this for all of quarter 2 and we will re-evaluate before the beginning of quarter 3. In part, this is because we have many young students in our school, and we must ensure we have systems in place to keep all stakeholders safe.
ATK #1: Bring the first ATK in a clear plastic bag to school on Monday mornings. The ATK will be checked to ensure it indicates a negative result.
ATK #2: Bring the first ATK in a clear plastic bag to school on Thursday mornings. The ATK will be checked to ensure it indicates a negative result.
Masks
Masks will continue to be worn when on campus.
Quarantine Guidelines
Keeping in line with the new government protocols, we will eliminate the high risk/low risk categories. If a student tests positive for Covid, only that student will remain home. However, the rest of the students will come to class as normal, and they will be asked to monitor for symptoms.
In the event that we have more than two students in the same class get Covid within a 3-day span of time, then the Safety Committee will meet to consider if online learning for the class is necessary. The Covid guidelines during the school commencement will be as follows:
Student with a Positive ATK/PCR result: Isolate at home or at a hospital for 5 days. This is the requirement from the Ministry of Public Health dated October 1st, 2022. Students may only return to school after Day 5 with a clear medical certificate.
