NPAC 2017-18 Season Brochure

Since opening in December 2004, NPAC has hosted hundreds of concerts and events in the 1150 seat venue. From bluegrass to ballet, from Jungle Jack Hanna to ZZ Top, NPAC continues to bring outstanding performances to the stage.

NPAC is recognized nationally as a leading entertainment venue for performing artists and theatrical productions. Performing artists this season represent many genres and cultures.

During the 2017-2018 Season, NPAC will present over 32 season performances including theatrical productions and children’s and family programming.

NPAC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit venue and we ask that you consider becoming an individual or corporate partner. SCOTT M. NISWONGER Governing Board President Niswonger Performing Arts Center Scott Niswonger was born in Van Wert, Ohio where he learned to fly, soloing on his 16th birthday. During his aviation career, he has flown everything from J-3 Cubs to the Boeing 747.

He is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Aviation Technology and was awarded a Doctorate of Technology in 2004. In addition, Mr. Niswonger earned a BSBA from Tusculum College in 1986 and later was honored with a Doctorate of Humane Letters in 2006. In 2016, he was honored with a Doctorate of Humane Letters from ETSU. Mr. Niswonger moved to Greeneville, Tennessee as the corporate pilot for the president of The Magnavox Company. In 1973, Niswonger started a cargo airline, General Aviation, Inc. After selling General, he became the Vice President of North American Operations for Flying Tiger Lines – a military contractor and global cargo airline. He later cofounded a second transportation company, Landair Services, with an initial investment of $2,000; and in 1990 formed Forward Air Corporation (FWRD). Those companies today have annual sales of over $1.1 billion. It’s impressive to note that he founded the first two companies to be taken public in Greene County’s 232 year history. Today, Niswonger is Chairman of Landair Transport, Inc. and Chairman Emeritus of Forward Air Corporation.

Some of the activities he is currently involved in include serving as the Chairman of The Niswonger (Educational) Foundation and on the corporate board of First Horizon National Corporation, the parent of First Tennessee Bank. He is the past Chairman of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Foundation and serves as the President of the Governing Board for the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. At Purdue University, he serves on the Dean’s Executive Council for the College of Technology. He is the chairman of the board of trustees for East Tennessee State University; serves as a trustee for Tusculum College and has for the past 25 years; the past chairman of Economic Development and Growth Board for the State of 6

Tennessee; and is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Niswonger has been honored with numerous recognitions.

Some of those include being selected by Junior Achievement International as their worldwide recipient of the International Distinguished Graduate Award; also a regional Business Hall of Fame inductee; he is a past recipient of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for the Southeastern United States; Coopers & Lybrand’s Entrepreneurial Company of the Year; and selected by Forbes as the top “Best 200 Small Public Companies” for nine consecutive years. He was awarded Purdue University’s Distinguished Technology Alumni Award; the State of Tennessee Board of Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy; and the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International. Scott was the recipient of the 2015 Tennessee Governor’s Arts Award.

Scott is especially proud of The Niswonger (Educational) Foundation that he established in 2001 to create opportunities for individual and regional growth through educational programs, scholarships, and other charitable activities. This educational operating foundation currently has 20 Niswonger Scholars in universities across America and 57 alumni. The Foundation has an annual program budget of more than $3 million.

Niswonger is the lead benefactor for the Niswonger Children’s Hospital, which is home to one of only 6 St. Jude Affiliate Clinics in the world.

With an exceptional level of involvement, giving and generosity, businessman and philanthropist Scott Niswonger has made a positive impact that will affect many generations to come.

Together since 1956, The Four Tops hail as one of Motown’s most consistent hit-makers and longest-lived original lineups.

The Four Tops began their hit streak with “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964 and over the next eight years they made almost 30 appearances on the charts. The group’s 1965 hits included “Ask the Lonely,” “Same Old Song,” and “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” which climbed to #1. “Reach Out I’ll Be There” hit the top of the pop chart in October 1966 and the quartet followed up with “Standing in the Shadows of Love” in 1967.

St. Paul & The Broken Bones roared onto the soul-revival scene in 2014 on the strength of showstopping lead vocalist Paul Janeway, whose earth-shaking vocals are matched only by his irrepressible energy as a performer. From Birmingham, Alabama, the band has a conservative eight pieces, Janeway, bassist Jesse Phillips, guitarist Browan Lollar, keyboardist Al Gamble, drummer Andrew Lee, trumpeter Allen Bransetter, Chad Fisher on trombone and Jason Mingledorff playing saxophone.

Ronnie Milsap ranks as the pre-eminent country soul singer of his generation. He represents much more than any two-word definition can convey: a humble, overtly friendly fellow with a talent as vast and multi-dimensional as the American South.

Milsap provided Country music with one of its most important voices, as the genre was moving beyond its rural roots into the mainstream of modern entertainment. Steeped in the mountain music of the North Carolina hills and schooled in classical piano, Milsap early in life found inspiration in a wide variety of music.

Even as he mastered Beethoven and Mozart, his heart belonged to hard core country and rhythm-and-blues -- music he heard beamed from powerful radio stations located in Nashville.

Milsap earned 6 Grammy’s® , 8 CMA’s, including Entertainer of the Year, and 4 ACM’s which included the lifetime honor, the Pioneer Award. Every year The Oak Ridge Boys’ Christmas tour plays to packed houses across North America. This year the group’s widely acclaimed holiday show, “The Oak Ridge Boys’ Christmas Celebration Tour 2017,” will be coming to Greeneville for an incredible night of holiday favorites and Oak Ridge Boys’ hits!

The nearly two-hour extravaganza will feature a mixture of traditional and contemporary songs—religious, romantic and fun holiday tunes—as well as some of the Grammy® Award-winning quartet’s classic Country-Pop hits like “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue” and “Thank God For Kids.” The full-production show with its beautiful sets, falling snow, and Christmas trees also includes a visit from Santa Claus, as well as songs from the group’s six, bestselling Christmas CDs. Every time they step before an audience, The Oaks bring four decades of charted singles, and 50 years of tradition, to a stage show widely acknowledged as among the most exciting anywhere. With nearly 40 albums to their credit, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver have multiple Grammy®, Dove, ICM, IBMA, and SPBGMA Award nominations, and are 7-time winners of IBMA’s Vocal Group of the Year. Lawson was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame at the Ryman Auditorium in 2012.

In 1979, Doyle laid the foundation for what has become the Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver sound. The makeup of the band has changed many times in the last 38 years, but by integrating each member’s special talents into the group, the Quicksilver sound has not been sacrificed.

With professional performers and over a dozen dogs, the high-energy show for all ages features stunts, comic antics and tricks, from high jumps and barrel racing, to pole weaving and disc catching. The Stunt Dog Experience is unusual in that all the dogs in the performance are rescue dogs that have been adopted from pounds and shelters across the country.

Chris Perondi’s dogs have been featured on national television numerous times and have been guests on talk shows such as the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show and more.

These talented celebrity dogs have been showcased on Animal Planet dozens of times and have appeared on Amazing Animal Videos and Planet’s Funniest Animals. Two of Perondi’s original extreme canines, Air Ripley and Soaring Sierra, appeared on the show Pet Star with host Mario Lopez.
