VISION MISSION

We believe that one day all children will attain an excellent education.

To build a movement of leaders to eliminate educational inequality.

3

Education is fundamental to an equitable society. An excellent education equips children and youth with the knowledge, skills, values, and mindsets needed to be empowered individuals and responsible citizens. The fact that a high-quality education has wideranging bene ts for individuals and societies has been demonstrated, time and again, by countries across the world. With nearly 1 in 4 people below the age of 14 years, India today stands at an injection point; where we go from here depends in large part on our ability to provide equal opportunities for all children to attain an excellent education. The causes underlying this collective failure are numerous, varied and complex. Nevertheless, at Teach For India, we believe that at the root of this crisis in education lies a crisis of leadership. There is a severe de cit of people at all levels of the education system who are committed to working together to improve
the capacity and quality of our nation’s schools. The fact is that teachers alone cannot solve this crisis; we also need excellent school principals to support those teachers, informed parents to stay engaged with the teaching-learning process in schools, visionary bureaucrats and politicians to create an environment that enables for principals and teachers to thrive, active civil society leaders to hold stakeholders accountable, and committed corporate leaders to mobilise the necessary resources to support school systems.

4

PROBLEM STATEMENT The truth is that today, more than 50% of students in Grade 5 cannot read a Grade 2 text or solve a simple subtraction problem. The truth is that today, the socio- economic circumstances that a child is born into determines the type of school she attends, the kinds of co-curricular opportunities that are available to her, the quality of life outcomes she attains as an adult, and the kinds of opportunities she passes on to her own children. The truth is that today, we are failing the majority of our children. Teach For India exists precisely to ll this de cit of leadership in education.

DESIGN CONCEPT STORY TELLING TECHNIQUE CIRCULATION

THEME Simplified education for all through interactive design and development of ideas through understandable concepts.

The circulation of the exhibition would be an interactive choice-based optional route, where students will have the liberty to choose their path within the exhibition space. It would be free- owing and spacious. 11

The use of interactive media such as screens for drag and drop of colours in plant parts, and spinning of blocks to reveal functions of body parts would create a narrative for the children to grasp ideas and concepts better and faster. Each design idea would have a ow and story associated with it which will help the student retain that educational experience for a long time.

EXPERIENCE

LOOK

The fun learning nature of the exhibition would entice the students to interact with the design ideas and give their us own as well. The experience would leave them with knowledge about their subjects in their syllabus in a simpler and fun way. It would help them open up their minds and think in a different direction.

The look of the entire exhibition would be very inviting for students. Illustrations, graffiti and a burst of colours would make the exhibition look apt for children. This fun learning world would have educative text on each wall, as well as the roof. Everywhere you look, you would learn something or the other. 12

BODY TWISTER

OUR UNIVERSE

READING ROOM

The Tree of Life would be another installation that would encourage students to give back what they have learned and what they think might help the environment. Each student would be given the opportunity to be as creative as possible and give ideas for saving the planet. The student would write down this idea on a lea et and hang it on the Tree of Life, making a cleaner and greener world, just as the tree. The idea of this installation is to impart the the knowledge and understanding that one idea can help lead towards a better and greener world.

The Body Twister is a four sided installation that would have different parts of a body on each cube of the twister. These cubes would hang individually and rotate along its own axis to the left or right. Each side would have information associated with that body part. It would be a fun and interactive way for students to learn about the body, but turning each cube individually to know more about it.

We wanted the kids to understand the wide world around them and what better to teach them than a trip around our solar system.

Reading is the key to wisdom and it gives the kids the patience to hear somebody else’s thoughts and process them in their own ways. We wanted to give the kids a creative space to create.
