IIT Kharagpur IIT Kharagpur stands dedicated to the service of the nation, ever since its inception in 1951 as a part of Nehru’s dream of a self-sufficient India. It is the first IIT to be set up and has been recognised as an Institute of National Importance in 1956.

With 19 academic departments, 6 centres of excellence and 7 schools every year it opens its doors to students from across the nation to train their wings to fly high in a miscellany of subjects ranging from engineering, science, management, law, architecture, humanities etc. The bar of excellence raises itself every passing year and institute has grown to become one of the most coveted technical institutes in our country.

The School The School was established in year 2008 nurturing a vision to produce protean professionals for booming infrastructure sector in India. It accepts students from diverse disciplines like Architecture, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and offers course in “Infrastructure Design and Management� to add up to field of Construction and Project Management.

First two semesters of the M.Tech course is designed to train students in fields of Project Management, Real Estate Management, Resource Management, Transportation Planning and Management, Laws pertaining to Infrastructure, Construction Technology, Remote Sensing and GIS, Rehabilitation of Structures etc. Students go out to Industry for a two month internship after their first year for a more hands-on experience. The final year is earmarked for thesis work pertaining to their choice of research area.

Message from Head of School Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management has been envisioned by its founders as a roof under which students of various disciplines like Architecture, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical can pool their skills and work together at making innovative strides in the field of Infrastructure Design and Management.

As another batch of students is graduating from the school, we are confident that they will significantly contribute to their respective fields. The M.Tech course is specially designed to make the students ready to meet the requirements of the current Industry. Over and above being experts in their own chosen field of Architecture or Engineering, they have acquired reliable knowledge that would make them capable to propel growth of Infrastructure sector.

Our School provides training both in the fronts of theory and field work. Hence I share this optimism along with my fellow faculty members that our students would definitely meet the expectations of their potential recruiters.

Approach Infrastructure Design and Management course aims at a multi-disciplinary approach to handle the issues of our infrastructure sector rather than the statutory individualistic outlook. The school empowers its students to handle challenges of managing an infrastructure projects through courses that are regularly updated to keep up with times.

Research Oriented Study The semester courses also provide enough choice of study for those students who wish to aid industry through their research. The projects school receives from industry help chisel perspective of the students to exact scenario on ground.

Industry Aligned Pedagogy Regular seminars and invited lectures are held to keep them abreast with new developments in their respective field across the globe. Internship and field trip opportunities are also provided to engage students for practical application of subjects. The continuous industry interaction along with a deep understanding of subject, propels the capability of students to work effectively in the infrastructure and management sector.

Foreign Exchange Every year students from the school qualify for the DAAD scholarship to work for their research work in Germany and get international exposure and guidance to add up to the research work done here.
