He grew up in a house with doorbell lights and subtitles on the TV. ‘Follow’ tells humorous and moving stories and experiences from the Irish Deaf community through sound, light, BSL, (British Sign Language), ISL (Irish Sign Language) and traditional story telling. From the drama group that brought their thrilling adaptation of ‘Annie’ to The Playhouse. Class Act School of Speech and Drama was set up in 2007 by two local teachers, Loretta Bradley and Brenda Grant. The group has grown from strength to strength, staging several local plays, entering children in fesieanna, Trinity Board Grade Examinations and now staging their annual Spring show. George Farquhar wrote his celebrated comedy The Beaux Strategem in 1707; three centuries later playwright Rosemary Jenkinson creates a new version, Bo Strategy, in collaboration with young people of Derry, in the Playhouse Theatre which is situated only a few strides from the home of Farquhar himself. This new comedy will then become one of the plays in the National Theatre Connections season, a nationwide new writing programme for teenage actors and following its premiere as part of the UK City of Culture 2013, will be performed by young actors all over the country.

The first play features two of the Morrigan sisters, Morrigan herself and Macha, famous for her curse on all Ulstermen. The second play is an account of Queen Maeve’s desire to capture the Brown Bull of Cooley.

SOLE PURPOSE PRODUCTIONS LGBT Theatre Lab Saturday 16th February 2013 12 – 4pm Do you have a stage, screen or radio script with a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) theme that you are working on? Or do you have part of a script? Would you like to see it acted out? Or would you like to try out some acting? The LGBT THEATRE LAB is a place where writers of all levels can try out ideas in a safe and creative environment. It is a place to receive constructive feedback. This will be a fun, active ‘on the floor’ event facilitated by Patricia Byrne, Artistic Director of Sole Purpose Productions and writer and award winning film maker Anne Crilly (University of Ulster). You send in an extract from the piece you are working on to Sole Purpose and we will copy them for distribution on the day. Send up to four typed pages in advance, including a five-line description

of the piece. Your work will then be ‘stood up’, under your direction, by actors associated with Sole Purpose. Or if you would like to try your hand at acting then come along and give it a go. Artskills provides young people with the opportunity to gain their essential skills qualifications as well as OCN’s in creative artforms, such as creative writing, digital photography, film and video, performance and web design.

Who we can work with?

We can work with individuals from 16 upwards who are not in education, employment (less than 16hrs) or training (less than four weeks to complete).

Due to the generosity of funders we are in a position to cover student travel to the course, EMA (education maintenance allowance) lunch costs depending on timetabling. Completers of the course will also receive a £100 cash bonus upon successfully completing the course.

What? The course is made up of the main element which is the Essential skills element (60hrs), Creative Writing (30hrs), Digital Photography (30hrs), Film and Video (30hrs), Performance (30hrs) & Web Design (30hrs) in total the time commitment to the course is 210 hours.

Theatre of Witness Course With Artistic Director Teya Sepinuck Mondays 6:00-9:30pm, from January 21-April 15, 2013 Free A special twelve-week course in which students will be introduced to Theatre of Witness through film, discussion, theory, creative exercises, and actual practice. This is an opportunity to immerse oneself in the creative process as well as to practice deep listening and bearing witness. Each session will focus on one of the Theatre of Witness’s twelve guiding principles, and participants will work closely with partners to create and direct a short Theatre of Witness piece for a classmate, perform in a short piece directed by a classmate, and create a short autobiographical piece.

‘Humdinger!’ will showcase amazing writers, performers, musicians, and illustrators from Ireland and beyond, including Roddy Doyle and Julia Donaldson.

‘Humdinger!’ will run for four days from 7th (7th is World Book Day!) to the 10th March as part of Derry/Londonderry’s City of Culture 2013 celebrations.

The Dog Ears team is on a mission to inspire a love of reading and to encourage the children of Northern Ireland to fall in love with books, stories and illustration.
