EDITOR’S NOTE

It is a new year! And honestly, there is really no difference from the transition of one day to the other day, but we incline to give more emphasis to this particular passage of time. As we look back in 2017, we may have experienced joy and sometimes happiness or perhaps sometimes regret then we look expectantly towards the future.

Last year was memorable for Niro Ceramic Group. As a Group we have broken new grounds and have set new limits for the organisation. Many of us experienced different emotions, the flow of these emotions was part happiness, disappointments and at times anger, but many moments of jubilation as well, and the latter emotions made the former so worth it, and we look forward for a greater 2018.

We are in our 7th year of Moments and we cannot believe how time has gone by so quickly. We like to take this opportunity to share with you the eight elements that were crafted to unfold the stories of Moments.

2017 Cersaie 2017 is an annual exhibition that is celebrated by Italian and Spanish tile manufacturers, not to mention tile manufacturers all over the world. It is an opportunity to show off the latest tile collections and to explore the new tile trends for 2018.

F

or Niro Ceramic Group, this is the most exciting time of the year, as our new products will be displayed for the first time. The exhibition is a chance for us to understand and measure levels of brand acceptance from the public and our customers.

Cersaie was held from 25 to 29 September 2017 and we occupied a space of 240m2 in Hall14, D32. The booth space was designed to dynamically display all the new collections from both Niro Granite and Zirconio. The design of the exterior leaning roof, which featured a black metal sheet along with a gold curtain, gave the stand a distinctive look. The materials used in constructing and designing the booth contributed to an overall air of industrial style, combined with elegance and sophistication. This perfectly conveyed the modern and contemporary vision of Niro Ceramic Group.

Niro Granite launched new series including: Murale, Cementous, Fusion, Scene and Muse. We also launched a catalogue – “Create Life Experience” – to showcase the beautiful tile images of these new series. Zirconio, meanwhile, launched four new series, namely: Calacatta, Manhattan, Home and Colonial. Sales teams from Malaysia and Spain worked very hard for the five-day show to ensure that they met their sales targets. We are happy to report that, by the end of the fifth day, their efforts had paid off.

A dinner party was organized on the second day of the exhibition at Ristorante Garganelli, a ‘thank you’ to all our international customers who visited us at the exhibition and for their continued support over the years.

Cersaie 2017 also revealed the new tile trends for 2018. It was noticeable that there were many retro and vibrant colours on display, and plenty of terrazzo – the thrilling pattern and fabric textured designs were plentiful. Large format tiles (up to 160x320cm) were also popular, with many designs ranging from concrete to stone and from wood to textured patterns. It seemed to be a competition that said: “anything you can do, I can do bigger!”

NEW COLLECTIONS BY NIRO GRANITE Beautiful neutral shades of white, grey and beige are what define the latest collections by Niro Granite. The muted colour palette of these new tiles are inspired by earthy tones, stone and concrete. There are five new collections to choose from, continuing Niro Granite’s exploration of the natural world, both old and new.

Fusion celebrates deconstructed luxury through a blend of patterns. These include cement and limestone, both of which evoke some of the earliest forms of architecture around the world.

In other words, cement and limestone can be used to create an antique or old-world look in today’s landscapes. The series is the perfect choice for updating modern interiors, as the patterns work particularly well with mixed material accents like marble and brass. Or why not team it with a backdrop of neutrals and wood for a unique effect?

inding new ways to engage with customers, and on their terms, is more important to Niro Ceramic Group now more than ever. It is why Niro Ceramic Group has recently announced a new store-in-store concept known as ‘Signature Collection Corner’ that will focus on its exclusive and high-end signature tiles, targeted at upscale customers.

The Signature Collection Corner is designed to showcase a variety of tiles from Zirconio and Niro Granite.

Striking a balance between modern contemporary design and classic elegance, the new Signature Collection Corner offers customers more ideas to help them choose the right tiles for their home. The main focus is primarily large-sized tiles, along with a variety of decorative tiles. These are displayed through live-and-functional mock ups, with revolving panels and special racking systems.

Our first Signature Collection Corner can be viewed at our exclusive dealer, Wah Seng Tiling Sdn. Bhd. (Wah Seng). Wah Seng has been in business since 1970 and is located along the famous “tile street” at Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr. Tan, the owner of Wah Seng, wanted to elevate the image of his showroom and is the first to try this new concept.

On 30 September 2017, the newly-renovated Wah Seng showroom with its Signature Collection Corner was launched to showcase the beauty of Zirconio and Niro Granite tiles to customers. This first day was a private launch, where contractors and architects were invited to an exclusive showroom tour and product preview.

Many of the attendees gave us their feedback and they were impressed by the beauty of the new tile products.

They told us that the displays were a good showcase for the tiles – easy-to-view, not too crowded, and they benefited from a premium feel. Overall, they left a good impression on the visitors.

Western Décor Corporation Ltd and Customers Visit Niro Ceramic Headquarters and Showroom

O

n 20 and 21 July 2017, our exclusive distributor in Thailand, Western Décor Corporation Ltd (WDC Thailand) and their customers, paid a visit to our headquarters and showroom in Shah Alam, Malaysia. The customers were designers and architects from A49, MakeAscene and August Design Consultant, as well as Origin Property Public Company Limited – a local property developer that focuses on condominiums located near Sky Train routes and expressways in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.

Customers were given a short presentation by Ms. Soo Cheah Yee, Business Development Manager in the International Sales department. She introduced the key functions of the different departments in the group and explained the value-added services we have to offer to support our customers. Later that afternoon, customers toured around the showroom, where they were able to understand more about the product ranges we carry and view some of the latest collections on display.

During the second day, customers were brought to visit the sales gallery for two projects, namely The Estates and Highland Park Suites, both of which use Niro Granite tiles.

The visit was to understand the concept and the market for local upscale residences. After the visit, customers then proceeded to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), where the annual Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition (Archidex) 2017 was being held.

Here, our customers could view the latest architectural and building products exhibited by local and international companies. The visit ended with a dinner before we wished them all ‘bon voyage’.

Overall, this two-day visit was a good networking opportunity for our new group of customers to gain a greater understanding of our products and local building projects.

n 26 and 27 October 2017, Niro Ceramic Group held a launch event at its headquarters in Shah Alam, Malaysia, to unveil a stunning new range of porcelain tiles in multiple colours and sizes.

The focus of this launch were four new mock ups and seven large panels, which were tiled with the latest 2017 collections – Fusion, Scene, Cementous, Muse, Sonosand, ClayArt and Grain. Each of these collections were showcased using a simple and minimalist approach and displayed in a mixture of various tile designs and sizes.

Over 180 architects, interior designers and developers attended the event. They experienced the beauty of these new products, followed by a sumptuous meal of Japanese and Western food.

After the new products were launched earlier this year, this is the latest showroom project the group has completed. It was designed to inspire building professionals with our latest collections.

The launch event was highly successful and we received a lot of positive feedback. It was a perfect opportunity for the invited guests to gain a greater understanding of our new products and for us to forge closer relationships with building professionals.

pon receiving positive feedback from the members of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) in Central region, Niro Ceramic Group has decided to expand its reach to the Northern Region by hosting a technical talk at its showroom in Penang on 30 September 2017.

Niro Ceramic Group always believes that “sharing is caring”. To further highlight this mantra, Niro Ceramic Group organised a sharing session to provide a platform to enhance our knowledge and experience with the Quantity Surveyors (QS) from Northern Malaysia. The training began with the registration of guests and a Malaysia-style breakfast. Over 38 QS gathered for a talk that showcased Niro Granite’s products and offerings.

The half-day technical talk was held between 9.00 am and 2.00 pm, spearheaded by Ms. Sally Cheng, General Manager of Sales. She presented A Journey with Niro Ceramic, an introduction of the company. The technical talk, meanwhile, covered topics that included an overview of the Niro Granite production process and technical specifications of Niro Granite tiles by Mr. Tan Kok Wai. It also focused on Niro Ceramic’s collaboration with Weber and Sun Synergy, both well-known brands in the building materials industry, sharing information on their products and expertise.

The technical talk garnered overwhelming interest from all attendees. We look forward to organising more events like this in other regions in the future.

Lian Seng Hin Trading Co Pte Ltd (LSH) Opens Flagship Store in Singapore Our Singapore distributor Lian Seng Hin (LSH) held a Grand Opening of its new Tiles Gallery on 7 October 2017.

Business partners and customers were invited to tour the new gallery, which measures a vast area covering 12,000 ft2.

The space showcases a selection of 1800 different tiles and over 50 different mock ups, while every display comes with a QR code allowing customers to shortlist their selections with the help of LSH’s friendly staff.

Customers can find popular Niro Granite series such as Polar Black and Grain on display in the gallery, while the new series Sonosand and I’Pietra will be available soon. The collections are expertly tiled on display panels and on the floor to show off the different colours, sizes and layout patterns that are possible. Finally, customers can sit back and enjoy a cuppa in the café located right inside the showroom.

The new store is the biggest LSH outlet and joins two other branches situated at Balestier and Jurong. Visit Lian Seng Hin’s new flagship store located at 3, Ubi Avenue 3, Crocodile House, Singapore for an all-new tile shopping experience.

Niro EduTour with Inti College Subang Jaya

INTI COLLEGE SUBANG JAYA The learning never stops for a group of 38 students pursuing a Diploma in Interior Design, from Inti College Subang Jaya, who paid a visit to our showroom and headquarters at Shah Alam, Malaysia. The field trip was part of their Material Class subject and the students were given an overview of the different types of tiles available in the market, as well as the manufacturing process of porcelain tiles via a video presentation.

n addition, we invited Mr. Edwin Ng from Sun Synergy Sdn. Bhd. to share the importance of using expansion joints, which is also a significant component to accommodate continuous movement on structures. The ‘EduTour’ continued with a discussion about the common issues affecting tile installation by Ms Ong Sue Li from ParexGroup Sdn. Bhd. After this, students had the opportunity to get hands-on with tile installation over a demonstration conducted by the technical team from ParexGroup.

Later in the afternoon, students visited the Designer’s Room, where our designers shared tips and tricks on how to create value for customers as an interior designer. The tour concluded with students visiting the Niro Ceramic Group showroom where they were able to view the different materials and products on display. It was certainly a fruitful learning experience for everyone.

This is the third time that we have hosted the EduTour for Inti College students since February 2017. We look forward to organising more tours like this for aspiring future interior designers.

JOINT EFFORTS THROUGH STREET MURAL PAINTING More than 30 volunteers from DTLM Architects, Perunding K&T and SWOT Design, together with a few selected Nironians, gathered at Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya on 21 October 2017 to participate in a street-painting activity. The event was organised by PJKITA – a community initiative

by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) that engages with citizens through multiple channels via projects, grants and initiatives that achieve a sustainable, creative and community-driven city.

The activity kicked off at 9.00am with some basic training on street painting and bricklaying for volunteers. With the help of facilitators on-site, volunteers painted and laid bricks according to designs. The hot scorching weather did not stop the fun or the efforts of the volunteers and the result was a vibrant, colourful public street.

Hospital Shah Alam, Selangor (HSAS)

Hospital Shah Alam, Selangor (HSAS) It was a great honour for Niro Granite to be part of the Hospital Shah Alam, Selangor (HSAS) development. Built on 30 acres of land, HSAS was completed early in 2016 and is the first government hospital located in the Petaling district. HSAS endeavours to be a centre of excellence for quality and efficient medical services, in a safe and comfortable environment, doing so in partnership with other relevant services to the complete satisfaction of patients.

he recent completion of HSAS, located about 1km away from Shah Alam City in Mukim Bukit Raja, Petaling District, Malaysia, makes it an ideal location to ensure that Selangor residents can enjoy the best quality health services. To this end, a combination of Niro Granite’s tiles - Seasoned GKX01 60x60cm, Wave GWV04 30x60cm and Marmo GMA24 60x60cm – were selected to furnish the hospital’s main floor.

The main staircases and the floor in the Pharmacy Department, meanwhile, benefit from a touch of Niro Granite’s Basaltina series. The Pietra Basaltina line is infused with a sleek finesse and refinement that is utterly unique and inimitable. Its natural properties are equally matchless. Its surface boasts a non-slip quality; its hue does not fade with time; and it contains strong heat and noise-isolation properties, all of which make for the perfect environment – beautiful, timeless and hard wearing.

Granite Stone series – a high performance porcelain tile with a beautiful natural stone design - was selected for the floor in both the visitor’s cafeteria and the staff dining area. With a combination of GGS15 60x60cm and GGS19 Mosaico 30x30cm, an everlasting elegance and comfortable feel has been successfully created. The Hydrotherapy Area, meanwhile, is paved with Gradino GGR02 Marrone and GGR04 Nero, Structured surface tiles, 30x30cm in size.

Moving on to the ‘back-of-the-house’ area, the office floors are tiled with Niro Granite’s Yura GMY01, GMY02 and GMY03 30x30cm Matt surface tiles. Lastly, the foyer area, reached before entering the auditorium, is beautifully decorated with our award-winning Regal series - GMR93 and GMR94, Polished surface in sizes of 30x60cm & 60x60cm.

enting Highlands Premium Outlets (GHPO) is home to the finest collection of designer and brand name stores, featuring savings of up to 65 per cent daily. It is operated by Genting Simon Sdn Bhd (GSSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Simon Genting Ltd (SGL).

Featuring 150 designer and brand name outlet stores, GHPO has a gross built-up area of 600,000 ft2, comprising a gross leasable area of 275,000 ft2.

Situated within Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, GHPO is easily accessible as it is approximately a 45-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur and within a 1.5-hour to 2-hour drive from Ipoh, Kuantan and Seremban via the North-South Expressway and Karak Expressway. The spring-like weather is a big draw for local and international shoppers, encouraging them to stop by and shop on the mountain while en route to Genting Highlands.

tiles. Inspired by natural stone designs, both of these series showcase different shades of grey tones. Megalito GSM03 Nero 60x60cm Structured surface is used as a border alongside them to highlight depth and provide contrast.

Elsewhere, the walkways on High Street and Middle Street are tiled with Elmina GEL02 Siera Beige 60x120cm and contrast with GIP03 Beola Grey both in Structured surfaces, delivering a delightful mix of beige and grey tones.

Megalito GSN03 Nero 60x60cm and GSN04 Grigio 60x60cm, both with Structured surfaces, are also used to pave part of the walkway.

The corridors to the toilets are tiled with Touch Stone GTU04 Smoked Grey and GTU06 Acorn, both in 30x60cm Structured surface. The toilet walls, meanwhile, are covered with Yura GMY01 Snow 30x60cm (Honed surface) and Traces Mosaico B 30x30cm is used as a decorative tile. The toilet floors are covered with Yura GMY03 Foggy 30x60cm Honed surface.

Compass One Mall, Singapore

Compass One Mall, Singapore Compass One Mall is a suburban shopping mall located in the centre of Sengkang, Singapore. The mall was built as part of an integrated development together with the adjacent Sengkang Mass Rapid Transit Line, Sengkang Light Rail Transit Line and Compass Heights condominium.

With a space of 270,000 ft2, the mall spreads out over four stories of retail outlets and two basement car parks. The mall was reopened on September 2016 after a major facelift, with a redesigned interior layout, more than 50 new retailers and newly improved amenities, such as a children’s playground. Just this year, the expanded Sengkang Public Library, which is located next door to the mall, is spread over two levels of the mall.

Niro Granite was chosen to be part of this huge refurbishment project. The main floors are now tiled with a mixture of I’Pietra GIP01 Borgogna White, GIP03 Beola Grey and GIP04 Alpine Grey, all with a Lappato surface. The male and female toilets, meanwhile, are tiled with GDW15 120x20cm Structured for a natural wood-like flooring effect. Moving on to the outdoor walkway, this is tiled with Quarzite GQT02 Armour Grey and Megalito GSM04 Girgio in Structured surface.

The revamped Compass One is now up and running, catering to the needs of Sengkang neighbourhood, library goers and daily rail commuters alike.

The New Home of PT. Daikin Applied Solutions Indonesia PT. Daikin Applied Solutions Indonesia (or DASI) has been a subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd, Japan since 2013. The company focuses on systems, differentiating products and finding unique solutions to meet customer needs in the HVAC business. DASI recently moved its new office from Wismai KEIAI, Sudirman area to L’Avenue Office Building located at Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

Niro Ceramic Indonesia was proud to be part of this project. Once you walk into DASI’s new office at L’Avenue Office Building, you will be welcomed by a dazzling GBR05 Crema from Marbre, Niro Granite’s marble-like collection, which is used on the floor in the reception area.

You will also sense the captivating ambience that comes with GBR07 Galaxy, another tile in the Marbre series. This is used throughout the Japanese-themed lounge and Director’s room. Moving on to the office room and the employee lounge, you can see and feel the comfort that Polar Black GPB01 Fog brings.

Its modest tone, on a Matt surface, delivers an elegant look while diffusing the tension that can often be present in an office atmosphere.

Mr. Toly Chandra, Chief Financial Officer of PT. Daikin Applied Solutions Indonesia, talked to us about the experience of partnering with Niro Ceramic Indonesia.

Why did DASI choose L’Avenue Office Building as the new location for its office?

Due to its continuous business development, DASI decided to relocate its previous offices Wisma KEIAI and Duren Tiga offices to the 25th floor of L’Avenue Office Building, Pasar Minggu Jakarta. L’Avenue Office Building was chosen due to its location, which enables our technicians to easily and efficiently travel to the Duren Tiga establishment, which has become DASI’s warehouse and workshop. By combining these two offices, we also hope to further improve coordination amongst us.

Can you tell us about the new office concept?

What distinguishes this new office concept from the previous one?

Unlike the previous office in Wisma KEIAI, which was more “stiff” in its feel, our new office carries with it a concept of minimalism. This concept was chosen to represent that DASI is a dynamic and professional company. Neutral colors are used to make employees feel comfortable and keep them focused on their daily work.

Which part of the interior design of this office is representative of DASI’s core values?

I would say the Employee Lounge area. The space was designed to represent the coziness and togetherness of DASI’s employees. This room is expected to foster a sense of belonging, as well as harmonious personal relations – one of our company’s values.

What has been the most difficult obstacle or challenge in building this office?

The short working time became a challenge for us and the contractor. We only had 2.5 months to complete the new office.

Upon completion, we then invited our dealers, consultants and store owners from Greater Jakarta area to visit us.

What made DASI choose Niro Granite’s tiles as part of this project? And how would you describe your experience with us?

To make a comfortable office environment for all of our employees, DASI chose porcelain tiles to cover the floors, as porcelain tiles are considered to have advantages such as easy maintenance and good scratch resistance. We chose Niro Granite’s tiles because its products are already well-known in some countries in the world, and are renowned for their good quality. In addition, the quick and very responsive feedback we received from the Niro Granite salesperson, as well as the after sales service provided, were big plus points.

UNVEILING NIRO GRANITE’S COLLECTIONS AT 30 TH CHINA INTERNATIONAL CERAMIC AND BATHROOM FAIR The China International Ceramic and Bathroom Fair (CeramBath) took place from 18 to 21 October 2017. The 30th edition of CeramBath attracted countless visitors from all over the world. They came in droves to shop for the latest tiles and sanitary wares. No stranger to CeramBath, Niro Ceramic participated in this international exhibition with a focus on Niro Granite and Zirconio products.

Why is Niro Granite so popular in the market? First, Niro Granite‘s booth design was inspired by a modern and minimalist concept, where the combination of classic black, white and grey managed to create an elegant yet comfortable environment that drew visitor attention.

Customers all the way from the United Kingdom showed great interest in Niro Granite products, especially in large size tiles. They shared with us the latest trends for ceramic tiles in other countries. With the transformation of consumer groups, the concise decorative effect and largeplate tile formats are poised to become the new favourite for this customer group.

Secondly, and this is perhaps the most important point, the design of Niro Granite Swiss Quality tiles is unique and attractive. Their simple yet stylish appearance, as well as the mainstream decorative effects, successfully catch visitor attention and draw them in.

CeramBath is an all-inclusive exhibition that provides a good opportunity to interact with visitors who come from all over the world.

Mr. Pan from Shanghai, was attracted by the style of Niro Granite’s products. He mentioned that products with large sizes and minimalist designs will definitely be one of the hottest trends for the current market.

Niro Granite’s Sonosand series, he said, is one of the series that best interprets the latest European trends. He was attracted to the core design of Sonosand, which is drawn from beautiful sandy bays and beaches. He firmly believes that the concept and story behind every Niro Granite product will bring comfort and calm to the hectic lifestyle most people endure.

Two customers from Fujian province were very optimistic about the advantages of imported brands to China in the future. They told us that Niro Ceramic Group, a manufacturer that carries 38 years of Swiss heritage with it, is in a strong position to best convey the latest European trends and design across all of its products.
