FRAMED FRAMES - PARTITIONING SYSTEM
WORK IN PROGRESS
Bamboo Frame work
Bamboo is split into strips, flattened and cleaned using a grinder.
A formwork is made of plywood upon which the bamboo strips are fired and bent. frames are made in half to avoid nodes while bending. Two halves are then joined by rivets.

Bamboo frames are then drilled and bamboo sticks of 4mm dia are fixed to weave wood onto them.
LEARNINGS
- Explorations in structural properties of the materials - bending in bamboo and steel while slicing and weaving in wood.

- Decisions on the tectonics and assembly of the partition - instead of welding the bent metal frames a small spacer and a concealed joinery would give proper finishing.
- The coherence between two materials is heavily influenced by the composition of material like, the fibrous composite of bamboo heavily limits it’s use as a frame as opposed to the brittle composition of metal.
- The structure’s stability are bette with a broader base and the choice of materials for weaving , the wood strips and bamboo wefts are decisions influenced by the weight of the pivoted frame.
GROUP 4
Wood weaving work
Wood blocks are sliced into 20mm width strips of 1 mm thickness and are weaved in the bamboo frames on the bamboo wefts.

Metal work
Metal box sections are cut 45 deg and welded to form the outer frames while metal strips are cut and bent with a radius of 55 mm and welded to connect the box frames.
