Since KMUTT is the sustainable university and in Bangkhunthian campus also has programs that support this system, one of them is having “Municiple Solid Waste Management Learning Center” which located at the back part of the campus. The existing program is hard for public access and the area is too small to be the learning center. So, I proposed this project with the location that easier for the public access.

This project is located at the East side of the moon shaped pond and the middle spot of KMUTT Bangkhunthian Campus site. From the campus site zoning this site is in the green space zoning which is the space that connect between the private zone, the institution, laboratory, and service part, and the public zone. This location is suitable to this project according to the project’s programming that has both public part and private part.

PROGRAM ANALYSIS

CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAM

Design Concept

The recycling process has the scale of waste changing during the process. Starting with original form of waste then to recycling, they need to crush into small pieces or separate elements apart for the process of creating new product. This scale changing applied on the scale and height of the project building, the arrangement of programs are divided into two main part according to privacy of the program and each program need different kind of space. So, the scale different is fit to the project.

PROGRAMS

Existing Situation

- Current user is only staff and maids, rarely has students or people from outside the campus come to use this building.

- Total area is approximately 200 sq.m.

- Current program: Waste storage / Waste separation / Office

ZONING DIAGRAM

The North part of the project is the waste management programs which is the more private area relate to the site of the campus that the North part has more privacy. And the South part of the project is the educational programs that connect to the public part of the campus site and easier for public access. In the middle part is the main entrace of the project building which has public programs for the users that come from outside of the camapus.

COMPUTATIONAL SYSTEM/STRATEGY

First, define grid line for the project using the center of the pond as the center point and spread out the radius lines. And for another direction using the outer lines of the site’s shape to control the vertical lines.

Then using point attractor to manipulate and control the height of the roof to create different scale of the space according to the project concept.

Then create columns position by find the intersection points between grid lines. And extrude to make the columns follow the height of each area.

Lastly use the same script from creating columns to create the walls, glazing, and partition in the building. Using plan lines to create those components.
