BLACKBIRD SINGING IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT

The process I followed to layout my book and create a complex narrative involved observing my subject, the Blackbird. I wanted to convey a contemplative mood, as I feel when I watch the Blackbird through my window.
The contrast of the bird against the darkness of night highlights the small moments around us that we often overlook.
The Blackbirds in my garden bring me great joy with their beautiful songs throughout the day. When I spot one on the fence, it often gives me an alert side-eye before swiftly flying away. I aimed to capture the cautious yet enigmatic essence of the Blackbird, which is always on alert to protect its young and territory.
The Beatles song “Blackbird” resonates with me, especially the line “blackbird singing in the dead of night,” which inspires me to persist in times of struggle, just like the Blackbird foraging in the dark to build a nest for its young.
