Main Objective:
The aim of Day Rehabilitation Service is to help outpatient clients who are recovering from mental health problems and need psycho-social support by promoting recovery and reducing the impact that may accompany with their illness.

Improvement of skills development o Social skills training group o Anger management training group o Activities of daily living training group o Stress management and relapse prevention training group o Therapeutically engaging them in shopping, banking, public transportation, meal preparation, and similar skills which increase their independence.

Main Objective:
The aim of Forensic Rehabilitation Unit is the assessment, care and treatment of mentally disordered offenders
Services Offered:
Inward facilities for mentally disordered offenders
Risk assessment, management, and the prevention of further victimization and reincarceration are core elements
Assessments to determine Criminal responsibility , Soundness / Unsoundness, Relationship of mental illnesses for the offence, Fitness to plead and Different forms ofcapacities
Assessments of victims
Services related to substance and addiction related issues related with legal problems
Multi-disciplinary team approach to re-integrate the offenders in community
Child and Adolescence (with offending behaviors) guidance

Intermediate Ward(s)

Main Objective:
The aim of the Intermediate Ward(s) is to rehabilitate clients who are recovering from mental health problems by giving psycho-social support & promoting independence.
Services Offered:
Rehabilitative activities via activities of daily living, vocational skills training, social skills training, communication skills training, housekeeping training, cookery training, and money management training focusing on income generation for those who are not eligible to send out for other rehabilitation units
Reintegration into society by placement of clients in jobs.
Management of psycho-social factors via community centric programmes.
Training of in-house staff and visiting medical, nursing, and allied health students in psychosocial rehabilitation of clients.
Highlights
In intermediate wards rehabilitation activities restarted.
Horticulture Therapy Unit
Date established: 2003
Main Objective:
The aim of Horticulture Therapy Unit is to make a productive individual through rehabilitation by art and science of plants and nature.
Services Offered:
Support of rehabilitation of clients referred via Horticulture Therapy, Therapeutic Horticulture, Social & Community Horticulture, & Vocational Horticulture.
Rehabilitation of clients by recreational activities.
Rehabilitation of clients by household activities.
Support in social re-integration of clients through horticulture therapeutic measures, recreational activities, and activities of daily living.
Support in improving social skills by money handling, shopping, going on picnics etc.
Provide job-oriented skills training for clients referred. (Flowerpots, Plant nursery, Mushroom etc.)
IntermediateCareHomes
Date Established: Male (Sumithuru Sewana)-2006, Female (Pathum Piyasa)-2021
Main Objective:
The main objective of Female Intermediate Care Home is to help individuals with mental health problems in supporting and facilitating daily functioning and social interactions as therapeutic management has little impact on daily living, socialization and work opportunities. This will enable more individuals with mental health problems to live in their community rather than being confined in a mental health institution.
Services Offered:
There are two separate houses for both men and women.
Individual care plans for patients
Provide supported employment
Organizing trips with patients
Group Therapy sessions
Individual Counseling sessions

11th of January 2022 – Trip to Kalutara with Male and Female Intermediate Care Home clients
7th of March – Fair well of first batch of Female Intermediate Care Home clients and former batch of Male Intermediate Care Home clients.
8th of March – Setting in the new boarding house (Male Intermediate Care Home patients)
31nd of September 2022 – Start roof reconstructions of Male Intermediate Care Home.
02th of November 2022 – Start reconstructions of the building of Male Intermediate Care Home.
12th of December 2022 – Reopening of Male Intermediate Care Home.
There are 12 clients successfully released to the community from pathum piyasa. They worked as,
Domestic Helpers
Cleaning Service Workers
Sales Girls etc.
There are 04 clients still stay in pathum piyasa they work in NIMHewana cafe. At pathum piyasa we give follow up care to the clients for a one year who are released to the community.
Pathum piyasa have available vacancies for another new 08 clients.
