News from the Environmental Committee

One of Tanglwood’s valued amenities is our 42-acre Nature Preserve located off of Tanglwood Drive, between Rosewood and Briarwood Drives, opposite the playground/walking track area. Within this wooded area is our hiking path, Briarwood Trail. Along the trail you can observe many of the flora and fauna native to northeast Pennsylvania.

Every year the Environmental committee working with our Maintenance Crew assesses how Mother Nature has affected this area regarding erosion, runoff, animal habitat behaviors, and the influence of various invasive species. Currently, the trail is no longer a continuous loop and the footbridge spanning the creek has been displaced due to the changing water flow. We now have a divided trail with the one entrance closer to Rosewood Drive (Upper Trail) and the main trailhead across from the playground. As the committee responds to the ravages of the weather and other environmental factors, repairing or relocating the connecting footbridge will be on hold and possibly considered at a later date.

Additionally, the Environmental Committee is putting into place interpretive, educational signage highlighting some of the features of our trail. These signs along with benches will enhance the area engaging young and old alike to stop along the way, observe and enjoy the benefits of nature.
