I am Ar. Nikhil Nandakumar, a passionate architect & designer hailing from the picturesque landscapes of Kerala, India.

My journey in design commenced with the successful completion of my Bachelor of Architecture, where I acquired a multitude of skillsets and design knowledge about the construction industry and the various intricacies that come with designing and constructing a building. I was also fascinated by 3d visualisation as drew closer to the end of my studies.

Training and practicing under multiple architects and other professionals in allied fields such as civil engineers and product designers helped in broadening my understanding of architecture and transferring the skills I learned to fuel passion projects. The realisation that could manifest any design I have in mind to the real world setting completely changed my perspective as a creative.

Facades have been punctured with windows, louvers and vertical shading devices to allow ventilation, natural daylighting and shading of spaces within.

3D Park- Community Recreation Center

Academic

“How can spaces aid in rejuvenating the community and the mental health of people and reconnect them with life other than work?” The concept for the recreation center in the IT hub of Kakkanad is to provide a much-needed space for people to destress and improve their work-life balance. With the majority of the working population residing and working in the city itself, the recreation center will serve as a hub for socialization, physical activity, and relaxation. The project intends to rejuvenate the community and improve mental health by providing a space that reconnects people with life outside of work. The architectural design concepts for the recreation center focus on maximizing natural lighting and ventilation, promoting greenery and sustainability,and providing easy accessibility and circulation throughout the building. The football ground will act as the central element of interest, while the sloping walkable green roof with a walking track, park, and garden will provide anexcellent outdoor space for visitors.

The Boathouse- Boat Jetty Redesign

Academic

The site is located in Mattancherry, Kochi, Kerala. It is an abandoned boat jetty needing renovation. The main design objective was to create an efficient docking space for local ferries and individual boats without causing much disturbance to the existing structures. The main idea was to merge land and water with a structure that acts as a piece of land floating on water. The concept initially tried to take inspiration from the Kerala houseboat with upper and lower decks extending from the existing structures. The final

design incorporated floating pontoons to keep the structure afloat, walkway which splits towards the restaurant and docking space. The upper deck connected via staircase is used for local hawkers to sell their produce.

Professional

This project was taken up during my internship in City Futures Design Collaborative. The client was in need of a house with a Mediterranean aesthetic to it. The planning incorporated 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and dining in the ground floor within a compact space. The facade incorporates classic Mediterranean design elements such as tiled roofing, ornamentation, arch-shaped elements and extended balcony space. The construction drawings were made with due consideration to the aesthetic detail and the functionality of these elements with respect to the site located in Kollam, Kerala.

Residence at Vennala

Professional

The residence is located in Vennala, Ernakulam, Kerala. The client required a modern contemporary aesthetic with clean lines in contrast to the local architecture. We played around with multiple design elements such as wood panelling, lighting designs and 3d textures during the design development phase. The final elevation incorporated pin walls, textured walls and metallic elements to create a contemporary look to the facade. The interior designs were also kept minimal and compact for ease of use and to enhance the contemporary aesthetic according to the design brief.

CAC Business Card & Brochure design

This is a business card mockup made for the consortium of CREA Projects, Adhithi Constructions and Ceema Advanced Ventures. The main aim was to unify the company identities together and merge them into a combined unit called CAC. A minimalist palette of whites and greens were used in this design to highlight sustainability as a practice the consortium aimed at bringing to the field of architecture.

Alara Restobar - 3D Visualisation

This project was for clients in Canada who were planning to pitch a Zero Spirits Restobar to investors. The design brief was to create the look and feel of the space as there was no site or space available for designing. The branding incorporated muted and earthy tones for their logos and mockups. The idea was to engage all 5 senses architecturally through the usage of natural elements like tropical plants, stone textures, comfortable furniture and seating spaces. The space was meant to be open in the evenings due to which lighting played an important factor. The spaces could range from brightly lit and active spaces to dimly lit and introverted spaces for more intimate settings.

The initial design iterations were put together and presented through Midjourney to get a sense of the clients vision and our vision of the space. The final design iterations were modelled and rendered within a space of 10x20m to get a sense of scale and realism for the investors to clearly understand the concept.

Through the synthesis of visuals, soundscapes, and narrative elements, endeavor to craft immersive cinematic experiences that resonate with audiences on a profound level. Each project represents a labor of love, a testament to my unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of storytelling and visual expression in the realm of filmmaking and animation.
