Inside Edo Owan East Chairperson Advises Mothers On Exclusive Breast Feeding AFUZE – The Chairperson of Owan East Women Development Programme, Mrs. Florence Omolegho Ijegbai has said that the Annual World Breastfeeding Week Celebration is designed by the Federal Government to keep mothers abreast of the importance breast milk to babies, especially during the first six months of life. Mrs. Ijegbai made this known during the Flag-off of the Annual World Breastfeeding Week at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre, Emabu, Ihievbe, Owa East Local Government Area.

Agbontaen Family Remembers Late Eson BENIN CITY- The family of late Chief Palmer Iyi Ewuare Agbontaen, the Eson of Benin Kingdom at the weekend held a two year memorial gathering in honour of the late Eson who died in 2011. The event which held at his residence, No 31 Edebiri Street, Ekenwan Road, Benin City featured special prayer session at the grave side by religious faithful from the Holy Aruosa Cathedral, led by Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao. Speaking at the occasion, eldest daughter of the late Eson, Miss Joyce Eki Agbontaen described her late father as a man of immense capacity and benevolent spirit. She said the children and all persons who know him would continue to cherish his tender love, compassion and unwavering support. She therefore prayed God and the ancestors to grant the soul of their father eternal rest. In attendance were the Enogie of Odighi, Prince Osaretin Akenzua and Princess Theresa Erediauwa, the Edo State Executive Director/ Focal person of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG). The late Chief Agbontaen died at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dora Usi Eresoyen and children.

She noted that exclusive breastfeeding should commence within 30 minutes of birth and continue till two years old. She advised husbands to assist their wives morally, emotionally and financially in order to make exclusive breastfeeding a success in the locality. In his remark, the coordinator of the Primary Healthcare Centre, Dr. Iraoya who spoke through Dr. James of the Referral Medical Centre, Afuze, stated that breastfeeding is economical,

healthy and suitable for all babies. He noted that the fist breast milk moment after birth is the first immunization to babies and therefore discouraged the use of cow milk. Also, speaking, the Ukor of Ihievbe HRH, Alhaji Jimah Awudu said that exclusive breastfeeding, aside been a healthy practice also create a strong and lasting bond between mother and child. He appealed to mothers to adhere strictly to exclusive breastfeeding in order to promote a healthy nation.

Orhionmwon LG Boss Expresses Commitment To Open Door Policy ABUDU - The Chairman, Orhionmon Local Government Council, Chief Roland Ibierutomwen has reiterated his administrations commitment to operate an open door policy. Owan West LG Boss Offsets Medical Bill Of Teenage Patient SABOGGIDA ORA - The Chairman, Owan West Local Government Area, Hon. Barr Godwin Aigbodion has called on the federal government to put in place health policies that would be beneficial to all members of the society. Hon. Aigbodion made the call when he visited a 15 years old girl, Jenefe Osedei, a Senior Secondary I student of Holy Trinity Grammar School, Uhunmora at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua. She was knocked down by a hit and run driver on her way from the farm in April 2013 and had her left leg amputated in the process. The council boss who offset her N150,000 hospital bill however frowned at the attitude of the institution to the plight of the citizen. The teenage girl was detained because her parents could not pay the medical bills incurred during her stay in the hospital even after being certified fit by

the doctors. He said it was unfortunate that people are made to pay for health facilities when everyone ought to get the benefit of free health care. The chairman expressed shock that health workers whom he said are supposed to provide essential services to the people could go on strike without consideration for the lives of the people saying it is not encouraging and therefore urged the federal government to wake up to its responsibilities. While encouraging the young girl not to see her present predicament as the end of the road, Hon. Aigbodion added that the welfare of the citizen of Owan West Local Government Area is paramount to his administration. He therefore, ordered the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Hon. Enahoro Aikpokpo to see to the needs of Miss Jenefer Osedei and reintegrate her back to the society.

Comrade Faluyi called on the state government to release the promotion of its members who have already been screened and asked the Post Primary Education Board to jettisoned the plan promotioned examination as the idea would cause further delay of the promotion which is already over due.
