HAVING understood that the basic road to greatness, recognition and success is rough and full of stains, Dr. Tai Sholarin on January 2, 1964 which is exactly firty years today in his popular column “Thinking with you” in the Daily Times said “May our road be rough this year.” My fellow corps members, since our aspiration focus on leaving a mark in the annals of history may our road be rough this year. Before expatiating on that, how was Christmas and this colourful new year? Fantastic! You said excellent! Thank God for that. Yes, after celebration, the next thing is resumption and continuous aspiration in order to have our dream fulfilled. Becoming an icon is not an overnight exercise but rather a timely gradual effort. National youth service can be liken to a coin which is made up of two sides. Unfortunately, vast numbers of corps members do not understand the nittygritty of both sides. Irrefutably, there is a solid relationship between knowledge and achievement. It is pathetic that the numerical strength of corps members who see National Youth Services as mere selfless and unrewardable exercise could be best compared to sand – uncountable. The people in the above school of thought derived their philosophy from the weak purchasing power of naira. This set of people press hard to manage their monthly allowance for thirty days. Really, in some of our state capital and federal capital territory, the cost of living is high. However, though the cost of living in some parts of the country may be high, Nigeria is our fatherland, Nigeria is ours and we must be ready to pay any price required in the process of lifting our nation high. During the first phase popularly known as orientation course, you might not involve in any meaningful exercise notwithstanding you can still make indelible marks and be recongised during passing out parade (POP) How? The answer to this is simple, in your place of primary Assignment (PPA) display your wealth of knowledge and make
