The Children’s Community aims to empower every child and family in Wallsend to fulfil their potential. To achieve this, we collaborate with communities and partners to reshape structures, policies, relationships, and mindsets to drive systems change. By working together, we pave the way for equitable opportunities and enable all children to become the very best versions of themselves. What is systems change? Children grow up in complex systems of organisations, opportunities, relationships and challenges, all of which affect the outcomes of their life. Systems change is about identifying the parts that don’t work, developing solutions and embedding them into the local community.
Systems change is like growing a tree. For our leaves to grow (our equality of opportunity for all children), we must have a stable trunk of connected learning, organisations and people, rooted in collaboration between a wide range of system partners. We need to water these collaborations with data and evidence, and share our learnings wider than our own communities to ensure the forest (and opportunities for all children) grow.
