Hello There! My name is Nicolas Nguyen and I am the author of this Zine magazine. I have been a Star Wars fan since I was 7 and Ahsoka has been one of my favorite characters ever since I was introduced to her. I hope this magazine can intrigue you more into the Star Wars universe and introduce you to the character of Ahsoka if you are not familiar with her.

introduction and Development in Animation Ahsoka Tano was a Togruta female native to the planet Shili. While she was three years old, a Jedi Master named Plo Koon, who was initially on a mission on Shili, sensed Ahsoka’s force abilities and accepted her into the Jedi Temple Academy. From there, she would learn from numerous masters about the characteristics of the force and what it meant to be a Jedi.

After several years of training and now at the age of fourteen, Master Yoda assigned Ahsoka to be the Padawan of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. However, Anakin was very skeptical and bristled about training an apprentice, especially since the Clone Wars had just started.

Fortunately for the both of them, they would develop a great bond and friendship as the two would continuously combat the enemies while learning valuable lessons along the way.

As the Clone Wars marched on, Anakin and Ahsoka, who were part of the Grand Republic, would face the villainous Separatist Alliance. Both the master and padawan confronted the Separatists leaders consisting of General Grievous, Count Dooku, and Nute Gunray, or bounty hunters such as Cad Bane, Aurra Sing, and Boba Fett. Later on, Ahsoka would also battle enemies who opposed both sides of the war, such as Pre Vizsla and Darth Maul. But Ahsoka would meet the realities of war and have a great deal of trauma while being on the frontlines. Fortunately for her, Anakin was always there to comfort her.

Turning Point...

As Anakin and Ahsoka were on a mission, they were interrupted by a call from the Jedi Council, stating that a bombing occured in the temple. Tasked with putting the pieces of the puzzle together, Anakin and Ahsoka would capture the woman who was behind it all. However, the woman, one of the wives of a technician worker who worked at the temple and was killed during the bombing, stated that she was forced into doing these treacherous acts. When Ahsoka came to question the women, the women all of a sudden was force choked to death and as the clone troopers saw the actions on camera, they arrested Ahsoka for murder. In order for Ahsoka to clear her name, she escaped the prison with the aid of Anakin and fled into the underworlds of Coruscant. Unfortunately, the Jedi and the clone military captured Ahsoka. They would strip Ahsoka of her padawan status and a trial would be held to determine her ultimate fate. Anakin, on the other hand, was still convinced she was innocent and found out Ahsoka’s very own Jedi friend, Barriss Offee, set up Ahsoka and planned the whole Jedi temple bombing in the first place. Barriss pleaded guilty but stated that she enacted her evil actions because she thought the Jedi order was corrupt in that they had lost their way in the war. After nearly being executed, Ahsoka was offered back into the temple but rejected, also seeing the flaws of the Jedi and unable to contemplate with the actions Bariss had done. As a result, Ahsoka left, leaving behind the only people she knew and choosing a new path into the unknown.

Months after leaving the Jedi, Ahsoka would drive on a junkie speeder into the underworld of Coruscant but crash onto Level 1313, meeting twin sisters Trace Martez and Rafa Martez. The three of them would then adventure off to the Kessel mines containing spice. The sisters made a deal with the Pyke Syndicate, which concerned Ahsoka because the pykes were a corrupt group of violent mercenaries. The spice would never make it to the pykes and the sisters along with Ahsoka were imprisoned.

Eventually, the group would escape their ordeal but be followed. Mandalorians, which included former terrorist Bo-Katan, persuaded Ahsoka to help her reclaim the planet Mandalore, which was now under the control of former Sith Lord Darth Maul. Now being thrown back into the conflicts of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka would contact and reunite with Anakin and Obi-Wan, along with the 501st legion, the clones he fought with all those years before.

Ahsoka tried to persuade Anakin and Obi-Wan to help reclaim Mandalore, but the two masters were alerted about the kidnapping of the Supreme Chancellor. However, Anakin would give Ahsoka her previous lightsabers and a battalion of clone troopers. As the two said farewell to each other, that was the last time Ahsoka, unknowingly, would see her master.

Ahsoka would fortunately survive the violent crisis with the assistance of Captain Rex, her captain clone trooper who had his inhibitor chip removed which was causing the clones to turn against her. Ahsoka’s venator ship crashed and the clones aboard perished.

Despite their turn against them, Ahsoka and Rex buried the clones. But from now on, with the Jedi Order destroyed and the absence of Anakin, Ahsoka was off on her own again.

Ahsoka for multiple years would run planet to planet in order to avoid the newly-formed Galactic Empire. It was not until she reunited with senator Bail Organa where she would officially join the rebellion movement against the empire. Ahsoka would have close ties to the rebellion group called the ghost crew.

On a mission to the planet Malachor, Ahsoka would meet Maul again but the two would be on the same side as both opposed the empire. However, Ahsoka would confront and duel the menacing Sith Lord Darth Vader. She would eventually realize it was Anakin who had fallen to the darkside and offer to help him come back to the light. Unfortunately, Anakin was too submerged into his dark form that was called Vader and they would continue their duel. But Ahsoka would be saved through time travel by a young Jedi named Ezra Bridger.

After the fall of the empire, Ahsoka was now tasked to find the missing Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn. While seeking information about Thrawn’s whereabouts, Ahsoka would confront Mandalorian Din Djarin. Din was seeking out for Ahsoka in order to return a force-sensitive youngling named Grogu. The two made a deal as Din and Ahsoka would attack the palace of magistrate and she would gain info on Thrawn while Din would give Grogu to Ahsoka for training. However, Ahsoka would be unable to train Grogu as her mission to find Ezra and Thrawn continued. She would tell Din to travel to the planet Tython which occupied an old Jedi Temple and have Grogu meditate with the force to contact other alive Jedi. Ahsoka’s journey in the Star Wars universe is still ongoing and we will see new adventures with her in the upcoming “Ahsoka Show'' soon to come on Disney+.

Meet The Creators The character that is Ahsoka Tano would have never existed if it were not for the creative work of film and television director Dave Filoni. Filoni was born in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where his family had a history with the music industry. Prior to his work in LucasFilm, Filoni was part of Nickelodeon and directed many successful animated television shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was not until George Lucas offered Filoni a job at LucasFilm where he would start the development of Ahsoka Tano in the show Star Wars: The Clone Wars. After drawing the various designs for Ahsoka, Filoni chose voice actor Ashley Eckstein for the role of Ahsoka Tano. Ever since she was a child, Eckstein has always been an actress, so the role of voice acting a young padawan in the Star Wars universe seemed to be a great fit. However, after releasing the Clone Wars movie in theaters and from there on introducing seasons one and two of the show, Ahsoka Tano was very disliked by fans for her annoying attitude and lack of contribution to the overall show. But as Filoni continued to develop the character throughout the upcoming seasons, she began to become a fan-favorite character and inspired many young children. Ahsoka would also appear in shows such as Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Forces of Destiny, where Rebels would also be directed by Filoni. But since Ahsoka had gained such popular support, fans wanted an Ahsoka character in live action. That wish would come true after Filoni was invited by Jon Favreau to help create a new Star Wars show called The Mandalorian. The show, which was the first to be live action in the Star Wars franchise, was an instant hit among the community of fans as it quickly gained fame, especially due to the introduction of “Baby Yoda,” or “Grogu.” As the storyline continued, Filoni directed an episode called Chapter 13: The Jedi, where we would see Ahsoka assist the Mandlorian and Grogu on their mission. The sight of seeing live-action Ahsoka sparked excitement and shock, as fans were impressed with the way Ahsoka transitioned from animation to live action. In addition, fans became familiar with actor Rosario Dawson, who played the Togruta female character that has brought happiness, joy, and inspiration to fans since 2008. If that was not enough, Filoni will now be directing his own live-action show dedicated to Ahsoka called Ahsoka, as the character will be played by Rosario Dawson.

A Fan’s Thoughts on Ahsoka Tano Interview with Charlie Winokur, a huge SW Fan! 1) What were your initial thoughts about Ahsoka when you first watched her in the Clone Wars?

Ahsoka’s character was initially very annoying and unpleasant. She was very cocky, and left Anakin and other Jedi disappointed most times when she ventured off. In the beginning, I was the opposite of a fan as most viewers were.

2) As she developed throughout the Clone Wars and other shows, has Ahsoka grown on you as a character or have you disliked her more?

Yes. Ahsoka has blossomed into a leader and role model of a character. Around season 4 of the Clone Wars show, it is evident that Ahsoka hit some level of maturity, making her screen time more enjoyable and intriguing. As her character grew, my liking for her grew as well.

3) What was your favorite Ahsoka moment from any Star Wars show or platform?

My favorite Ahsoka moment would have to be the final duel with Maul on Mandalore in Season 7 of the Clone Wars.

4) Does Ahsoka have any impact on your life? Have you learned important themes or lessons from her character?

Ahsoka as a character has not necessarily made an impact on my life. However, I have learned to give immature people time to mature before I grow too much of a judgement.

5) Where does Ahsoka rank in your favorite Star Wars characters?

Ahsoka as a character earns a 8.5/10 rating for me. On the overall rank of lists of characters, she is ranked #13 and her scale of likeness has been going higher and higher.
