Understanding the Allotropes of Agglomeration Economies Accomplishing over 18 years professional experience in large scale construction projects, and operating at the crossroads of architecture/engineering, economic theory, and computer science, through the management of diverse teams across different cultural divides, has made me deeply aware of the socio-cultural and economic constraints and opportunities in the industry but has also taught me how these divergent views can coalesce to respond to the challenges of today’s world.

I am a place maker, and I reconcile differences to optimize design solutions for diversity and the environment. I collaborate with local practices and individuals to use and adapt digital technologies to develop sustainable and communal methodologies for a more sustainable strategic architectural practice.

Nicolas Durr is a registered architect, living in Geneva Switzerland.

Graduate from the Architectural Association in London with a masters in architecture, and an Associates of Arts and philosophy degree as well as a French language minor from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg Pennsylvania and University of Florida in Gainesville. Nicolas has accumulated a broad range of professional experiences in distinguished boutique and niche architecture firms across Europe the Middle East and America, including Populous, Pascal and Watson, and BAM contracting. He has worked on numerous sporting venues across the world, including Wembley National Stadium, London Olympic Main Stadium, and he recently completed the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, as project architect, from design to commissioning. His professional work is characterized by large scale complex structures and their on-site development, while he has worked closely with stadium operators, such as LIVENATION and WSL and FLASH to develop purpose built adaptable structures that meet the changing demands of their users. Adaptability and finding pragmatic solutions to spatial and programmatic problems has spearheaded his architectural language. His academic research explores social ecology and sustainable/ethical development of architectural constructions, and attempts to shed light on the value of manifesting transformative creative educational models in the contemporary context of design education. He has participated in the development of the Estidama sustainability standards in the UAE and is currently researching the changing role of architecture in the transition economy. His prior teaching appointments include Assistant Professor at the EPFL in Lausanne Switzerland where he worked for three years as a coordinator and Unit Tutor for the ALICE LABS Atelier de la Conception de l’Espace, working closely with First year students, and he has been a visiting critic at the AA, University of Florida, and AUS in the UAE.

Yas Arena was conceived as an adaptable entertainment venue for Miral, to transform Yas Island and develop the FORMULE 1 destination into a world global tourism destination.

Miral, the client/developer, is the leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences that contribute to the growth of the leisure and entertainment industry and Abu Dhabi’s economic sector.

The arena and auxiliary facilities have helped metamorphosize the island into the fastest growing theme park market in the world.

Miral Asset Management had appointed BAM International to deliver the construction of Etihad Arena, an arena with a capacity of 18,000 seats. Etihad Arena will be used to host events in a temperature controlled environment and is located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Abu Dhabi events company Flash Entertainment will host gigs and sports events inside the Etihad Arena and it has been designed in a way it can host a variety of events, from tennis tournaments to wrestling matches and more. Work started on 17 December 2017.

The arena is Originally designed by HOK (a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm), with support from Pascall+Watson. HOK and PW also designed the adjacent arena retail and dining destination along the boardwalk, forming a mixed-use anchor on the east end of Yas Bay. Abu Dhabi events company Flash Entertainment will host gigs and sports events inside the Etihad Arena and it has been designed in a way it can host a variety of events, from tennis tournaments to wrestling matches and more.

Yas Island is located in Abu Dhabi. BAM International has successfully delivered various projects on Yas Island, including the Crowne Plaza and Staybridge suites hotels, as well as the Welcome Pavilion which provides visitors with a luxury shopping, resting and leisure area before or after the visit to the island’s many attractions such as Ferrari World My work on the Yas arena is split between two companies, I had first worked for Pascal + Watson and was later asked by the client to be integrated into the contractor team to facilitate and maintain the aesthetic, functional, and adaptability requirements of the design. I worked closely with event operators and the client in all phases of the design proposal. The design brief for the arena on behalf of Pascal and Watson, was split two hotels all tied together through a seaside boardwalk that flanks the arena and runs parallel to the F1 circuit. My role focused primarily on the arena and the boardwalk, while another team developed the hotels.

8 Kitchen 4 Meeting Rooms MICE - Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions: MICE events are catered for by the in-built flexibility within the bowl and its configurations. The key design flexibility characteristics are as follows: • Premium seating is concentrated according to the most populated events relating to the event calendar. All Premium seats are used in all configurations and are all directly accessible from the Premium Lounge.

• All VIP boxes are available in all configurations - for use as breakout in Convention / Conference mode. All boxes facing directly onto the floor benefit from being glazed for privacy during breakout sessions.

• Moveable partitions create an authentic theatre experience and create sufficient sound protection from the xhibition space behind.

• The building operational costs can be reduced by opening only the required facilities during MICE modes

MULTI-FUNCTIONALITY Multifunctional requirements of the Yas South Arena shall include: • Short distances between entrances and spectator seating areas.

• Unobstructed view of the defined Field of Play for all spectators.

• Exceptional acoustics in all active modes.

• A safe performance and spectator environment for all proposed event modes.

• Adequate number and size of spectator walkways to allow for efficient movement and evacuation of patrons.

• Sufficient F&B concessions and merchandising outlets to maximise secondary revenue.

• Direct access from the loading dock to the arena floor for efficient loading and unloading of show equipment via elephant doors.

• Ability to concurrently operate back of house support services and event activities without impacting either operation.

• Efficient modes of conversion to minimise the cost and time associated with the change of modes while maintaining an intimate environment for all proposed event configurations.

• Sufficient toilets, first aid and payer rooms to service the maximum capacity attendance.

• Storage areas/rooms for all front and back of house operations fitted out to enhance serviceability with access and internal dimensions suitable for mechanical handling equipment

• Suitable artist and locker rooms for all proposed events in line with selected global benchmarked arenas

• Integrated roof catwalks to allow for easy maintenance and event/ production setup

• Media strategy.

• Sufficient rigging capacity and load points for all proposed event modes. (See rigging Section.)

• Sufficient entry & ticketing points.

• Sufficient cloaking facilities to process all MICE patrons within a one hour period.

• External box office, (possibly develop as a brand centre.)

The design ambition and main innovative feature of the Yas Arena envelope, is its ability to create a dynamic and immersive envelope.

During the day its surface will reflect the surrounding as a dancing shimmering pattern across the waterfront. While at night, it will attract attention to events, and bring fascinated spectators to the arena, through its illuminated and dancing façade.

Different types of materials and architectural details have been used to create the desired effects of the shimmer, shadow and light, solid and void, in order to realize the dynamic look and form of the façade.

The static facade has been integrated with a specific LED lighting system to further enhance the cladding effects and to heighten the effects of shimmer, movement and fascination, while creating an innovative and energy conscious skin system. The movement of the envelope is also enhanced with these lights to create programmable pixels.

In order to achieve the desired lantern effect within the building’s envelope, it was necessary to create a gap between the light source and the rear side of the cladding panels. This separation of the skin also allows an ease of maintenance and cleaning, while also creating a shading structure for the external areas of the arena.

Kenitra-Locus in Quo Kenitra is well situated for development, nestled in-between two of the largest metropolises of the country, Rabat and Casablanca, the city figures at the center of the new proposed high speed train connecting Marrakesh to Tangiers. The commune and city officials are currently working together in order to catalyze on the current momentum that is brewing within the city and made evident through the development of the Atlantic free zone; a large Free Trade Zone (with more than two millions square meters), which offers a number of taxes, and customs benefits advantages for all the companies that decide to set up business in the park, making Kenitra an ideal location for investments.

Located within the heart of this rapid economic development, Kenitra embodies, a zone of interest for investors, as it located between two of Morocco’s main regions, Sale-zemmour-Zaer and Tangier-Tetouan, Gharb-Chrarda-beni Hssen region. This area is divided into two provinces, Kenitra and Sidi Kacem. It has a population of over 2 million, which makes up 17% of the total Moroccan population. This rapid urbanization movement that is concentrated in the Kenitra province, is expected to reach 54%, far exceeding the national rate of growth. .

Kenitrians aside from making up a large segment of the Moroccan working population are infused with an inherited cultural value of sports and more over football, in the form of a nationalistic and regional pride. The climate is mild and humid during winter and hot and dry in the summer, making this an ideal destination for leisure and sports for both European and Middle Eastern Professional Athletic leagues.

The variegated cultural mix of the area, the different cultures and languages, religions, offer a springboard of opportunity, in the form of a well-educated population, eager for employment and development.

Geographic location has coalesced with the complex urban fabric of the city to transform Kenitra (opposed to any other Moroccan city) into an allotrope for the development of a sports hub. The area electrified with these social catalysts in the forms of institutional and vocational organizations, offers opportunities in the form of academics, leisure, and commerce.

Within this context, sport and athletics embody an opportunity to mediate between the cultural and economic values of this emerging class.

The country has instituted impressive reforms to liberalize trade relations with major trading countries, build much needed infrastructure, stabilize macroeconomic policy, improve education, and open political systems.

Shouldn’t a stadium which is an important part of a city and its heritage, be used as a venue for the majority of people - where they can work, live, shop, exercise and enjoy themselves.

Why therefore do cities and countries think so narrowly about stadium use? Is it the lack of time from winning the bid before the sporting event takes place that prevents the planning of anything other than a stadium or is it because that’s how it has always been done?

Program Concept

Here in Switzerland, real estate developers have recognized the opportunities inherent in having a sports facility integrated into a mixed-use development. These developments, either initially or retroactively, incorporates properties such as retail, office, and housing options into a sports facility complex.

This trend involves all manner of sports facility, not just baseball parks, and reflects ever-growing expectations of fans with regard to the amenities incorporated into the facilities where sporting events are held. An explanation of this evolution can be traced to increased competi-tion for the public’s discretionary time and money. Also, fans have more viewing options for sporting events via television and Internet broadcasts, so there are increased demands on the live event to provide entertainment options that make attend-ance, with its attendant cost, preferable to broad-cast options. The mixed-use option allows for further integration into a community as it allows for direct implantation following a detailed survey of the actual demand of an area. In the case of Kenitra, the geographic context in conjunction with the actual social condition of the area, make the area prime for a fully integrated international sporting complex.

Main Program

The Main Olympic Stadium design allows for an 80,000 seat Athletics stadium to be converted into a more easily maintained 25,000 seat venue after the Games.

A 20m-high 'wrap' will encircle the 900m circumference of the Stadium.

Artists will create a large mural on the wrap of historical sporting champions, participating countries' flags and sponsor logos, giving the Stadium its distinctive appearance.

Location

The Olympic Stadium will be at the heart of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. All Athletics events will take place in the Stadium as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, watched by millions of people around the world. It will have 25,000 permanent seats and 55,000 temporary seats that will be removed after the Games.

The Olympic Stadium is at the south of the Olympic Park on an island site surrounded on three sides by waterways, within easy walking distance of the Olympic Village and warm-up facilities.

I Worked on the Main Olympic Stadium, from concept design into construction. The opportunity allowed for constant design sessions with all parties involved in the building process, and allowed a lot of interflow between parts. I started on the main structural core of the stadium, looking specifically at racker design in conjunction with bowl design and sight lines. I focused alot on the roof design-lighting design. We opted to use a roof compression truss; our concept allowed us to reuse this roof in new configurations after the games in Legacy Mode. Although we could not provide cover for the whole stadium, our tension cabeled roof allows for a more open and dynamic solution that will not obscure the field of play and that can be later reused in another configuration. I later moved into a planning and strategic management role, looking at further uses for the stadium after it’s initial use and organizing and drawing the planning sets. I coordinated with many different consultants in the design of the landscaped environments around the park, and had a hand in the development of the stadiums wrap.

Wembley Stadium

Design Development/Construction/Venue Management Consruction Phases While working on Wembley Stadium for HOK Sport’s, a dynamic partnership that was developed between Norman Fosters and HOK Sport; we operated within an open plan office enabling the free flow of ideas. We collaborated on numerous aspect of the construction process, serving as a check to the Multiplex contractors and were involved in many aspects of an on going design process.

The most striking highly visible feature of the new stadium is the 133 metre tall arch that sits above the north stand. The steel arch is 315 metres long and is the longest single roof structure in the world. It. is visible right across London.

The arch supports all of the weight of the north roof and 60 per cent of the weight of the southern side. By using an arch to bear some of the weight of the southern roof it is possible to retract the south roof to allow light and air onto the pitch.

Roof Gantry Design

The Sliding Roof and the Pitch One of the key challenges of the design team was to keep the famously high standard of the Wembley pitch while, at the same time, designing a stadium with stands that are higher and closer to the pitch than the original stadium and give better uninterrupted views.

Many new stadia have suffered from poor pitches as the stands in the stadia can leave large sections of the pitch in almost permanent shadow. Grass demands direct sunlight to grow effectively.

For this reason, the sliding roof remained an integral part of the design for the new Wembley. Options such as a palletised pitch (moving a patchwork pitch in and out of the Stadium between events) or regularly re-laying the pitch were rejected as inappropriate during this design process..

Instead, computer models demonstrated the effectiveness of a moving roof for the new stadium.

Wembley Stadium welcomes roughly 1 ½ million football and rugby fans each year, but it will also have important roles as the country’s leading venue for music concerts and allows the UK to bid for the greatest events in world sport – from the World Athletics Championship and the Olympic Games to the FIFA World Cup, Wembley was voted best venue in 2008.

Athletics are hosted on a specially built platform that keeps fans as close as possible to the action for football, rugby and athletics while allowing for uninterrupted views of the events.

NFL Game

We have provided a choice of stage locations but for most events the stage is likely to be end on in the western side of the stadium, again bringing fans as close as possible to the stage. This location, the higher roofline of the new stadium and a new purpose-built sound system will all reduce the amount of noise ‘spillage’ from the stadium. .

Seats are demountable to allow for quick rigging for concerts and a clean power supply is built into the stage positions.

Venue Management After sign over had been completed, several of us were asked to stay on to help coordinate in the facilities operation of the stadium, we worked closely with engineers from Honeywell and Hollandia to ensure the operation of the stadium in it’s many dynamic tasks, from Foot to NFl, and formula one. We helped in the organization of concerts and other events during the first year of operation.

Though designed primarily for football, rugby and music events, the new Wembley Stadium is also capable of hosting world-class athletic events, such as NFL football, and Formula Races.

A revolutionary solution has been developed to ensure that both football and athletics fans can enjoy perfect views, thanks to a temporary athletics platform that can be installed when necessary.

If Wembley is required to host a major athletics event, the prefabricated platform can be built over the lower bowl, covering some of the seats but creating the increased surface needed to fit an athletics track. The platform will take just a few weeks to install and remove, making Wembley a versatile, multi-sport venue.

The total land area of Jumeirah Golf Estates is 1,119 hectares. Phase A occupies 375 hectares and incorporates 13 planned residential communities and a retail facility, comprising more than 1,000 individual properties, each set in beautifully landscaped surroundings with estates ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 square feet.

European Tour Centre Jumeirah Golf Estates also brings a unique new concept to the residential golf scene, with the first-ever European Tour Centre, a 21st Century neighborhood centre, which offers convenient shopping and leisure facilities right on your doorstep.

The retail facility, The European Tour Center, is roughly 40, 000 square feet and offers both local community services, as well as caters to the sports lifestyle of the community, and offers premier offices.

The European Tour Centre provides all day-to-day shopping and service needs, with convenience stores, retail galleries, a pharmacy, a post office and a laundry service. There will also be coffee shops and fast food outlets, as well as office facilities. In addition, there will be a mosque situated conveniently for residents.

At the heart of every neighbourhood, the community centre is the place to go for everyday needs such as banking or groceries. A mix of well-stocked, convenient local stores will ensure that residents have everything they need.

Jumeriah Golf Estates

Jumeriah Golf Estates gave me the opportunity to follow a project from it’s initial concept to detailed design. We were asked to design a retail facility with a specific program to accommodate the codes and practices of the Dubai municipality, while functioning as a leisure facility catering to their inhabitants. This dynamic program required us to create a hotel and accommodation in the first floors, while main ground floor served as a retail floor plate. This program allowed us the facility to introduce establishments such as the Ryder Cup, which served alcohol and serviced the European Tourist clientele. While respecting the laws of the municipality. .

Intial concept sketches

Construction Phases: Concept-Detailed Design The initial design of the Retail mall was to follow. the theme of an Old Italian Hill Village. The client had specifically emphasized the need for a random distribution of roofs. We had a clear intent of using a more contemporary feel for the interior of the mall.

This clear division between the interior and the exterior allowed us the opportunity to address the issue of accommodation as a retrofit into an old hill village. We used tension cables and wood lamination to create a more contemporary interior. The interior View of interior from residential was organized around a main central wood truss that was offset against the regularity of the mall’s structural grid. We chose to address the exterior of this roof in a contemporary manor and clad it with a metallic finish. The residential accommodation was organized around this central atrium space and is screened off from the rest of the mall through the use of semi-translucent barrisol panels. This screening element creates a moment of interaction between the residential and the commercial, while also offering the opportunity to have interactive displays during the shopping season.

Notre Client désire démolir le bâtiment existant et réaliser une habitation mieux intégrée dans le paysage.

Le volume sera long et étroit pour se distancer du voisin et pour libérer des points de vue sur le lac. Afin de réduir la dimension du bâtiment nous l’avons posé sur une base horizontale pour éviter des construcVilla voisin tions contre terre.

Le style particulier du bâtiment est résolument contemporain, empruntant un vocabulaire fonctionnel aux lignes simples et épurées. L'usage de matériaux naturels, comme le bois, le verre et les crépis naturels ont été sélectionnés pour favoriser encore l’intégration dans la verdure afin de s'inscrir dans cette logique de simplicité.

Un garage à l’arrière de la maison peut recevoir deux véhicules et deux autres peuvent stationner proche du portail d’entrée sans être vu du lac.

(figure 1-Vue aérienne de la parcelle) Un aménagement paysager se fera de concert avec la parcelle au-dessus pour laquelle nous déposerons un autre permis de construire d’entente avec les deux propriétaires. Le terrain sera harmonieusement modelé et retrouvera son profil initial (fortement creusé lors de la réalisation de l’habitation existante). Les clôtures seront remplacées par des haies vives composées d’essences locales pour favoriser la venue des passeraux et des petits animaux (loire, loriot, musaraigne, etc…). L’objectif étant de conserver au maximum l'état initial notamment pour ce qui est des plantations de hautes tiges et des haies vives. Il n'est pas prévu de modification de la clôture sur rue constituée d'une haie vive.

Un attention particulière a été apportée à l’intégration de l’habitat dans ce milieu de verdure que nous avons voulu à tout prix préserver. L’image ci-jointe montre la différence d’implantation entre l’état existant et le futur projet. (figure 2 Sketch Concept) La maison « côté lac » ne coupera pas la vue à la maison « côté forêt » et, depuis la vue du lac, les deux habitations ne forment pas une masse imposante comme c’est le cas actuellement. PROGRAMME AND CONTEXT: The design for this private house had gone through the hands of three other offices. We had been given the plans of the preceding offices and the program of the client. The client was after a contemporary house that fit programmatically with his lifestyle and with the surroundings. The house is located on the waterfront of Geneva Lake, in the French district of “Chens Sur Lemans,” a quant little village overlooking the UN. The house was meant to be a private house for the client and his family. The house was designed with his office and his personal fitness facilities. The shape and feel of the house was inspired by the strict regulations of slope on the roofs of the houses, we used this regulation in conjunction with the natural setting to achieve a house that blends itself between mountain and lake. The roof of the house often takes on shape of nautical architecture, and was developed using parametric modeling packages. 8 9 Egout Alt 386.90 m

House 1

HOUSE 1 is an architectural installation based on an experimental format for collaborative design and construction by ALICE – an international group of young architects and researchers, scientists, and doctoral candidates from the EPFL, led by the Director Dieter Dietz.

Built initially as proto-structure during a 5-day workshop in April, HOUSE 1 is a 11m x 11m x 11m balloon-frame timber construct holding the ‘genetic code’ for future developments. The project involved over 200 students, who worked in groups under the close guidance of 12 studio directors and the wood engineer Rémy Meylan.

Through it’s definition, protostructures are an incomplete system, nonessential and adaptive, but consistent. They work like an index, which incorporate restrictions to localize itself. It is neither problematic, nor critical, like a representational project. It is neither generic, nor indi erent, to variation, like its modernistic predecessor, the prototype. It does not segregate problems or configure strategies, but integrates potentials and manages their fluctuation. Given its capacity to engender novelty from within, di erence is not as a nuance, a weakness, or an accident, but the ultimate source of value. It becomes the condition of existence of generality, not merely its specification. And, in turn, generality is not idealized in a neutral organization, but is generated as an open potential, growing through the accumulation of contingency. Protostructures thus evolve as they incorporate di erence and develop complexity. Their responsiveness to conditions, their internal di erentiation, and their propagation cannot but expand the potentials of a material medium into an increasingly robust organization, which can move across scales, domains, and times. Any site, no matter how restricted it may be, any exterior to the internal systematicity of a protostructure, is nothing but a manifold of systemic circumstances, a bundle of gradients within which a protostructure fluctuates, and for which it is a codifier, a marker, an indicator of adequacy, a register of potentials, and a device to steer order. The usual limits of the architectural project (unpredictability, change, anticipation, possibility, invisibility, creativity, novelty) here become embedded in a process of fluctuation within gradients. Architectural organizations of this kind are engendered not as objects, but as processes of production without a program, with an increasingly complex diagram. Technical regulations, conventions, and restrictions are adopted and absorbed, and kept open to adjustment. This is why a protostructure is radically di erent from the modern idea of a prototype. It is not purposeful but wise, not single-mindedly e cient, but rigorously multi-tasking. It does not impose itself, but interpose its medium. And it changes only in order to preserve itself. The question of determination is reconfigured, overcoming the assumption of materials as obstacles of form, understood as a mental projection, and incarnating instead the simplest device for breeding unpredictability and for engineering the intangible via the systematization of graceful models of systemic life.

2004-2022 Text Written by Students for Presentations “ I put an apple on my table. Then I put myself inside this apple. What tranquility! “ A quote from the book “Thinking the Interior” by Peter Sloterdjik where he quotes Henry Michaud. It perfectly portrays our co ncept of building a garden on the protostructure and then putting ourselves in it. But how do we approach tranquility?

Working on the theory of Ecosophy as founded by Guattari, we link the environmental ecology, social ecology and mental ecology.

This Ecosophy is an ethico-political articulation between the environmental relations, social relations and human subjectivity.

Social Ecology is about reconstructing the modalities of “group-being” (l’être en groupe), not only through communication with but through existential questions within one’s self.

Mental Ecology is the reinvention of the relation between the object and the body. what sense do we want to increase the amount of time for potential human activity?

In what sense do we want to increase human productivity? Is it towards unemployment, anxiety, oppressive marginalisation, popul ism?

Or is it towards investment in culture, development, reinvention of the environment and enrichment of life and sensibility?

This cultural revolution must take into account both material and immaterial assets. s of other ways of existing have already established themselves outside of consciousness and sadly since doubt comes before thought. eed a place for us to apply the theory of the mental ecology. ly, social ecology, thus relation with the other projects will be approached only once mental ecology is accomplished.

We, as the youth, are manipulated through the production of a collective mass-media subjectivity. However, through our panoptic garden, purposed for just one observer at a time, we distance ourselves from normalised subjectivity through singularisation.

In order for us to advance, we believe that we need to reconsider ourselves. Rather than remaining subject to the seductive eco nomic We need new social and aesthetic practices, new practices of the Self, in relation to the other, to the foreign, to the strange .

Our garden provides an isolation area. Once the observer enters from below, he is the central point of this garden. He is indeed the central point of the protostructure, linking directly four other studios. He experiences a radical change between the exterior and the interior of , starting at the most minuscule level - one’s very own self opposed to one’s very own self.

Elements My Studio focused heavily on the notion of iterative design, and the development of not only the necessary drawing skills to understand contemporary design but also the current trends occurring in digital media. The students were encouraged, to develop concepts and articulate these concepts through the ensemble of their work. In “Elements,” the students were asked to develop an element (bed, window, table, door) that proposes a spatial idea related to the body.

This element would have to take into consideration the students sites, the documentation pro cess, and the physical model at a 1:1 scale was the objective of the exercise. Student’s sites were given across Lausanne, and the objective was the development of a 3-student group project. This project was then presented at the jury entitled Elements.

This element would have to take into consideration the students sites, the documentation process, and the physical model at a 1:1 scale was the objective of the exercise. Student’s sites were given across Laus anne, and the objective was the development of a 3-student group project. This project was then presented at the jury entitled Elements. Students were asked to fabricate their element in wood, and that the fabrication process take into consideration craftsmanship and details to connections. The students were asked to present their projects in a forum at the ROLEX learning center.
