VIKING NATION NEWSLETTER Spring 2018

I want to thank you for attending Parent Teacher conferences in March and taking the time to keep current with your students’ progress at Mazama. Remember you can always monitor your students’ academic progress, attendance and behaviors via the Home Access system. If you don’t have your student’s log in information or need some assistance with the program, please contact the guidance office. Viking Nation has another staff representative for the Crystal Apple awards this year. Cathy Nevala is our teacher winner for the April 17th event held at the Ross Ragland Theater. Congratulations to her for a job well done. Viking Nation is lucky to have her on staff. Oregon State Park’s OC&E Woods Line State Trail is seeking volunteers to help keep the trail clean and there is a SOLVE clean-up event scheduled for this activity. Our Viking Service Learning Class, headed up by Ms. Mitchell, has “adopted” the section of trail from the A-canal Bridge to Wiard Street for the clean-up event. Gloves and trash bags will be provided and trash will be hauled out by Park Rangers after the clean-up. A Park Ranger will meet with the group to have a safety talk, and distribute gloves and bags. Thanks to Ms. Mitchell and her class for helping out our community. Here is the public link for the event if you are interested in learning more. SOLVE it for Earth Day Event. On the 4th of April, Viking Nation will have our next cohort of students in the STEM&M program sign their participation letters with Mazama and Oregon Tech. This is an exciting time for the school and district to be continuing such as awesome program. Thank you for everyone involved. Mazama High School is looking for participants to join in the second annual College and Career Fair. The counseling office is seeking a wide variety of local businesses, professionals in various career fields, college departments, college admissions representatives, and military recruiters. About 1,100 students attended the inaugural College and Career Fair in 2017. This year the Mazama Counseling Department has invited about 1,500 students to attend. These include students from Mazama High School, Henley High School, Falcon Heights Academy, Great Basin Homeschool Center, Bonanza High School, Lost River High School, Chiloquin High School, Brixner Junior High, Klamath Union High School, EagleRidge High School, Hosanna Christian Academy and Triad School.
